I might do a logistics analysis for the best city layout. I had this in mind when I made the best food list.
The thing is that you don't only want to know which are the Synergies ( berries, carrot, sheep = meat/wool/poop)
But you also need to know the total production you need for the system to operate in max efficiency. ( production -> time and space)
also room for storage and infrastructure.

It is a very complicated task but I might do it.

COULD someone tell me what do you use to design those city maps, as Wautduhf did?
Is this an easy template or you use photoshop?

Morti, this is the most poetic review I have ever read and it is also all the aspects of the game that are making it Beautiful!

I haven't reviewed OHOL yet and if you haven't I want to ask you to borrow your words to express my feelings.

About half the population are carefree males...
This is what we are solving and creating an important "NEED" with it, the need for reproduction.

the mechanic:
-every player over 14 and less than 40 can be married ( will be done with words, like peace/war is made)
-every Male that died unmarried gets a gene score penalty
-every Female that gets married gets a fertility priority boost.
-Females that are not married are still fertile and can breed as they do now.
-every Male that gets married gets extra tool slots. (a multiplier to his current ones or a flat number)
-every child that is born to a married mother also has a father  (displayed in his father's name) (no new aunts, uncles or cousins though, only a father)
-If you are a father your wife and wife's direct offsprings from the marriage and after count double to your Gene score. (they are displayed in gene score as well) if you are a good father you will be awarded x2 but if you are a bad one you will be punished x2.
-family tree display remains as it is, fathers don't appear. (for coding reasons and workload)
-divorce is not an option ( or to be resolve through cursing and killing)

Wanted effects:
to care as a male about your offsprings.
to be incentivized to have a family
to be able to offer more as a male and have a purpose.
for kids to have a better experience as two adults will take care of them.
this will make people interact more, and trade more, males will be incentivized to gain and offer wealth and power to get a wife. (things that make the world keep moving forward)

1.We will be able to follow only 1 person right?
2.What happens if we follow our follower? Do we both become lords or one of us loses his title?

I think /die more as an indicator that something else is the problem or that there is something that bothers the newborn player so much that he doesnt want to live in this situation.

Just had a kid who didn't want to be a boy.  I'm not even sure they used the "die" command.  They just ran from me into the cold biome and starved.  I couldn't even force feed him.  I know Jason has mentioned he wanted to do something about this, because I end up paying the price for that other player's convenience.

Edit:
On reflection, I think my last sentence sums up my problem with the die command as it is implemented today.  There are direct problems: my score takes a hit because the baby player decides he doesn't like the cut of my jib.  Or he doesn't like being a boy.  Or doesn't like so many trees.  Or wants an easier start.  I think it's ok to give the player some say in this, but the cost of repeatedly using "die" or deliberately starving to death should be significant.  This should be a tough choice: do I *really* want to tank my score so I can have a city start?  Right now, others end up paying the price for his choice.

This is not only a problem with the "die" command, but is also a reflection on how the scores are tallied up.  I know Jason is searching and grasping at different schemes, trying to find one that encourages proper play without having loads of exploits or being too restrictive.  I don't think he's found it just yet.  I'm actually a trained (but lapsed) actuary and a developer, so I could probably help him here, but I respect he wants to try to do this on his own.

/die makes sure that the score of the mother is not influenced, only if the bb chooses to not /die mom score will be affected.
So the absent of /die will be an actual problem cause moms will get negative scores from suiciding/self starving bbs.

Still dont havent reed anyone states how /die is a problem for mothers. It does even influence birth cooldown I think. Does it?

#234 Re: Main Forum » Objections To Ending Killing in OHOL? » 2019-12-08 22:14:31

how would you be able to force things without violence?

Example: I grab a fire branch and light up all the kindling of town, then I feed all the firewood in fires. Then I grab 4 pies and go chopping all the trees near town. feed all fires again. How do you stop me?

PS: I kill all the sheeps as well.

That would backfire so quickly. You'd have people griefing left and right just to get a special fancy public execution/punishment. It wouldn't be something shameful to the types of folk that'd get it, it'd be an achievement. Like the time people with high curse scores had white-on-black speech bubbles. People were begging to be cursed, and being assholes to towns just so they could get different colored text.

If when you are captured, people can automatically Curse you by throwing you stuff and curse you for free without a token. Then people might not be begging to be publicly executed. Cause they might not be able to play a lot for the next month.

I don't know what do you mean, real life is full of Police, paper police (bureaucrat) , social police (gossip and social shaming), Magic police ( religion)
Also YOLO, you only live once. People are feared IRL , in ohol you don't have to fear about your life and I really doubt that people fear the Donkey town.

IN real life , You destroyed something public or sacred? Good luck if someone reports you.

but this mechanic is exactly designed to not be able to vandalise.
You cant erase other people's entries, your entry doesn't erase the other ones.

In real life Romans used town criers to reach a large crowd and also in real life you were awake for about 15.768.000 minutes, not 60 so you had plenty of time to talk to each other.

#238 Re: Main Forum » Market and Laws - New Item - Hierarchy and Trade » 2019-12-08 10:45:27

Explanation:
I was trying to trade and cooperate.
At the start I used to be talking to people to see if they can help me.
After a lot of time, talking and searching I can find some that are interested in trade or cooperation.
But many times It would be better If I made all the things I needed myself in this time I used to search for a partner.

.Kids and teens cant easily communicate.
.The roles of the players are not very clear.
.What they need, want they would like to have and what they can offer.
.A lot of times I don't need staff for myself and I am just looking for a quest or to work for someone. A market would be helpful with this too.
I believe a big portion of players would love to do some quest for others.

Why not use a Slot box as it is now?
the problems of a slotted box with paper are
-that one person can spam all the papers,
-that one person can delete all the other papers,
-that papers don't decay so you cant be sure that this person is alive.
-that papers have a harsh characters limit.

All these guarantee that even if I put a slot box in the center of town to act as a market it will never do,
cause it is not distinctable and most important not reliable

An item that people could go write about what they need, what they want and their Name appears after the text.

-Every Entry is signed off with the name and nobility title of the writer.
-character limit= 1+age+gene score
-The way this would work is like swapping written paper from a slot box with unlimited capacity.
-1 text per player so they don't spam.
-Every new entry overwrites the old one.
-Their entry would be erased after their death or have a 30 minutes decay.
-Being a Noble grant you extra text slots. (King could post 4 Extra texts, duke 3, Earl 2, baron 1 extra
-To use the item you must hold a pencil or Elder Quill Ink Pen
-The written with pencil decays the written with Ink Pen is inherited to your nobility heir ( hierarchy )

This would incentivize property and trading but also can function as a law system once the Hierarchy is implemented.

Extra Feature!
Accept and Deny

-When a person reads your entry can say "YAY", "NAY"
this will hit the writer of the entry with a popup saying Name-surname-Title accepts or denies your entry #.

(If a person has multiple entries put a Latin number on them I,II,III,IV so the person knows which one got approved and which not )

Iron is not the most valuable resourse anymore

Water is the village count down, also rubber which is a consumable now.

Property fences are free, curses is a ban list , Genes matter, Mutton pies are still one of the best foods , Rabbits need bait, Bps don't decay.
family specialisation is a thing. Many more staff have changed.
I can't give you a guide , I gtg , here some stats https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ … 6&range=A2

I have been a Real KING Without wearing a Crown, here is my feedback.

During the noob apocalypse, I was doing nomad runs. What was this?
I was leaving the cities and I was leading a small group of offsprings around, to survive under my commands.
Commands as: Run, follow, Eat, hunt, gather X, feed, stay, give me X, built/craft X.

In my most successful run, I had a sister with me. I didn't have any tag or crown but I was managing a group of more than 10 people in the end and we were building our own camp to this point.
At the end of my rule, I had 3 skilled and 2 new players that were asking and obeying me to organize their actions.
By being born to a nomad group and seeing that your mother and others obeying a certain Person you are more inclined to do as well.

I acquired my leadership through, leading, effectiveness and via group mentality ( if others follow him I will follow him).
I could Hold this authority cause it was easily visible to the group that I HAD this authority.

THIS system might be able to present exactly that, which one is the most respectful and eligible player to follow and cooperate with.
IRL titles of Respect are very important for group organization and might become very important in-game.
Because as my example showed, when this Respect is apparent among the group, the group gives to certain players the authority.

JASON plz add an access transfer command for in-group members as MY PEOPLE USE THIS

Think as if food storage has a fence-gate and someone gets exiled, now exile and being part of a group is a big thing right?

Mechanic:
My people USE this gives Access to your subordinates
My Duke, Kind, etc use this, gives Access to your current duke king, etc

we transfer Access, not ownership!

if a king exiles a duke. this Duke and all his subordinates lose access.
A Duke exiles a king, the king will lose access to gates owned by this Duke and duke's followers.
A Duke leaving would mean that he and his followers would lose access.

-Future integration of automation
By automation, you mean scripted macro actions like berry bush picking? Even if it is not, you already have me from lag-free zoom out.

still, the curse has a bigger range than a bow and 32 radius is enough to catch him if he ever comes back.

#247 Re: Main Forum » Nerf the Horse? » 2019-11-29 07:53:24

if you wanna deal with griefers Just curse them, don't kill them.

Also, use their griefing as proof to persuade the whole village to curse them.
Let them grief again so you can persuade more people.
If you do that It will be the last time you will be dealing with him for the next 30 days.

#249 Re: Main Forum » Well wine is never getting made » 2019-11-27 10:09:04

I think people have to stop thinking Ohol as a single-player game, It is not a single player anymore.
Try to talk to others, see how you could co-operate to achieve what you want.

Yesterday my town needed oil, we found a ginger that was willing to do it, I was white and I wanted to help.
The guy grabbed a blank map, took our only parked horse and gone away alone to find a tarry spot from 0.
I myself searched around the village, read all the available maps we had, read about the two oil spots we had, found a free-roaming horse and gone check if the tarry spots had still oil.
Upon reaching the first spot I saw it had still oil. also had a horse parking fences, a small camp few tiles east to produce coal and a village west with a working rubber Newcomen pump.
Upon leaving the place I saw the Ginger guy still searching. I showed him that I know where oil is by reading the map and said to him to follow me. .
When we reached the place I said him that I am going to bring a rubber. gone back gathered 7 rubber , 1 full water bucket and brought them to him. For some reason, the guy all the time I was away instead of using the small coal camp nearby made a new klin in the snow next to oil but ok.
I dropped my staff out from the snow for him to grab them. then he gave me his empty horse and I went to the near village to grab water from newcomen.
I started a fire, filled it with charcoal and it was full of water again. But oops the village had no tank. so I grabbed 6 buckets gone to the ginger guy and asked him to take a tank to bring him water.
His response: Make yours, fuck off, you annoy me, leave before I bow you.
I said ok and left. Then I think I Gone all the way back to the village to find a tank. found 1, filled it with water and left it outside the snow biome for the rude ginger or anyone who would go to extract the oil again.

After a while, the ginger got back and I helped him fire the OIl to kero. When All tanks had been fired I asked him.
Why wouldn't you want to help you? He replied something like this is one man's job.
I said to him that he is uncooperative and stubborn or something
His reply was: this uncooperative guy just produced oil for days.  Diminishing all the help I gave him. Information, rubber and water.

If he had co-operated I could also provide the ginger with coal, make him more tanks, get All the oil from that rig but she just didn't want to play along, he wanted to play solo as much as possible.

Well if you are like this guy I pity you, you will not be able to find fun anymore.
