I really liked the idea. I hope he will implement it later. These kind of games need anyways some kind of reset button (for lag issues, because too many abandoned cities...) and also to refresh the game. But if we can craft it, I hope it is very difficult and won't be done in just a few hours of work. To really make this war between these two factions (anti red button and pro red button)
Yeah there are lot of possibilities, very curious about the evolution of this game.
I was thinking of village/city raiding another city/village but the problem is that you don't really have any attachment to the city/town, and even if you do that, maybe 1 life later you will be in the raided village. You also don't really know which one is from your village... (unless it is a sister or special clothes..but ehh)
And anyways you don't need to raid a city, you can pick whatever you want and most of the time no one will notice it..
That's kinda hard to implement with taking into account everything...
First, if it is just timed base, (for example 1 hour of no respawn after mass murder), people will do it just before logging off to dodge the waiting.
Then, another issue is :
If you see a griefer, you kill him and then a few persons try to kill you (some griefers wait the chaos before doing griefing), you have no choice but to kill them if you want to stay there/stay alive. And if you succeed in the end you will have massive negative karma whereas you protected the village then yourself.
Depends, if I know the person and knows he's working, I will listen to him but otherwise for me it is a red flag and I won't really hesitate. Depends on his reaction too, if he keeps moving, trying to murder others or if he says just after the kill "wait will explain", and put the knife on ground or something, then I will listen but...
That's harsh, you have no big vision so it is very risky... And you die really easily too.
It was interesting to read, thanks for sharing.
Yeah I know but five seconds is nothing, and so is 10s when you have such a small view.
And imagine there is no pvp, people will be able to grief until they die without any fear at all, that would be even worse. Especially since in this game everyone can grab anything, and there is no lock or something else to avoid thief. I like that there is a pvp (always adds spice to story, allow more actions), just not in a good state yet.
Another thought I just had : It could be nice that when you kill someone, you have blood on you, and you can't remove it until you go clean yourself in a pond or with water.
Wow, that's unfortunate. A story similar to yours happened to me too.
Was being a knife lover, with a lot of knives, wanted to show it to uncle (my collection of like 3/4 knives), so I called him a bit outside of the base. I grab one knife, I want to put them on the ground but at the same time he moved or something and he died (accident, I was sad)... Then another one was passing by and saw the bloody tomb, he pulls his knife immediately and I have no time to explain, we fight for like 30s (that was like wtf is going on on this fight) before I finally kill him too. I spent the rest of my life in the village as if nothing happened. And gave the clothes to children.
And I bet the thoughts of uncle of this event are that I wanted to kill him but not at all, and he will think that for the rest of his life. Sad.
I don't think it was an hacker, it sometimes happen to me (less than before) than some are invisible, probably a weird bug.
But if they grief, it is probably not a poor village where you struggle just to be alive because food is scarce/naked... So they can easily make weapons in this kind of village (that's really not complicated, unless griefers are really beginners but I don't think a beginner would grief).
And you must be very lucky to be able to save the village even if you have a weapon. Because in the first place, you need to know it, and the vision is really small (see only a few squares around), the murder grave doesn't last long at all. And since no armor is available, you can insta die without being able to fight back (the one having the initiative will kill you, so griefers have an huge advantage).
And yes, username which can't be changed would be nice. At least there is one consequence of their actions. But I would be prefer to be able to craft armor, and make detecting murders easily (loud sound around big area, murder graves lasts longer). I like that there is a bit of pvp, but it needs to be handled way more nicely.
Hey, I'm trying to compile on windows but I have an issue when trying to make the client code on w10, it seems like it is not finding any dep file (not sure if normal or not), and then saying that there is no g++.exe (no such file) :

I don't get it because in all the bin folders there is a g++.exe (and I installed g++:
in msys/1.0/home/myusername/bin
msys/1.0/home/myusername/OneLife/bin
msys/1.0/home/myusername/bin
msys\1.0\home\teuteu\OneLife\gameSource\bin
msys\1.0\bin
I also noticed I had to type this (had another error before) :
mingw-get install libiconv
mingw-get install mpc
mingw-get install gmp
Any one has a clue of what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for help !
EDIT : And if I do g++ --version, I have no error and it is showing (mingw.org gcc-6.3.0-1) 6.3.0..and so on). So g++ should be working. Confused
The issue is that in this game, you are unknown (no nick or no name or nothing that can identify you), which means griefing is not punished at all. Which is really bad because people are more likely to grief since there is no consequence at all. There are also a lot of invisible ways to grief (even if you don't murder people), which is deadly to village. I guess a karma system would be required, if you kill a lot in previous lives, you have a sinister aura or something. Or instead of an aura, maybe be able to inspect people (oh this one is dangerous...and so on)
The second thing is that you have a very small view (too zoomed in) so even if there is murder nearby, you may not even know it. The bloody grave is showing for a short time too (not long enough).
If the murder was ever kinda solved (like harder to do, or easier to detect), griefers will just switch to another method, but I guess this is the funniest way of griefing to murder people.
Solutions to this murder thing would be able to craft a armor (which resists one knife stab, or one arrow for example, even if it is not easy to craft, that's not an issue, that would be even funnier if it is not easy to craft), so you are less likely to die too easily. And then be able to detect murder from a longer distance and make the bloody grave lasts a lot longer.
I don't mind having murders in village, but make it harder.
And crafting a knife is easy if you have already have the steel file. Bow and arrow is easy too. So hiding these weapons... not convinced it will help a lot, it will help a bit sure, but not that much.
