#26 Re: News » Update: More Fixes » 2019-07-07 01:27:27

So even if I'm not so pleased with the content droughts.

I do like some of these changes. Murder scream direction is useful for non-zoom peeps, The yoohoo emote could do the same thing.

Field medics will do alot to alleviate pad griefing. You can come to the victim instead of vice versa.

New models sound good, Theirs been a big issue with everyone being the same since same race towns. You should day as Pein suggested and randomise hairstyles.

Okay well I ended up having a peak just with discord.

I don't use discord so I don't know what Jason's doing.

But i do know it's been many weeks since any actual content. Loom clothes was the last tech advance i can remember. Even that was coming out of content drought.

Civilization hasn't come that far since early days. Sure, combustion engines but what we do with it?

We still just light things with a massive wooden shaft.

When can we have Jason's modern home office in game.

#29 Re: Main Forum » People keep feeding me and ruining my yum chain. » 2019-07-03 21:58:46

Hence why i don't yum unless theirs not enough babies.

It can be more efficient for awhile, But you still need to eat and each time it's harder. You have extra time but you probably spend it trying to cook new foods for yourself.

I'm more open to it as a male if the town already had variety. As female it's counterproductive because you need to make new food and raise extra babies.

It's a good way to get back at rude people quietly. Not that you are rude.

#30 Re: Main Forum » Ending the Bob Trend » 2019-07-03 21:53:05

It's not so common now, I think it's already fizzled out mostly.

Same name towns always made me do want to /die, especially when all the women are following along with it.

I am curious how long a meme town has lasted before dying out or going back to normal.

#31 Re: Main Forum » South Qin Memorial Garden - The true tale of a magical garden » 2019-07-02 02:33:49

Ah, The gardens. Probably the only example of culture in a town.

I've seen the garden and it was quite grand.

#32 Re: Main Forum » [Problem] Culture doesn't persist; what if Kings and Queens aged slow? » 2019-06-28 12:20:03

I don't think culture is really possible, Only game wide stuff.

But I do think crowns should have some use. Instead of slower aging we could have increased charecter limits. Any adult crown wearer can speak like an elder.

#34 Re: Main Forum » The average life of the average player » 2019-06-27 00:55:25

What makes you guys think you're the average player?

It's good if this isn't your playstyle but the majority of my babies seem to be like this. Maybe I've just been getting bad RNG or the same people all the time.

Be born as a baby, check if town is rich. Slash die if town poor or mum give bad name. Look for nearest clothes, Priority on bp. Hump gear so mum know you want. If mum no give, suicide or be mad whole life. Can also kiss up to old ppl for gear.

When content with gear, Do ill and yoohoo until old or someone threaten stab.

Once grown, Look for more gear. Loot corpses when you can. Also try get knife, As many as possible. Crown is also end-game gear, Means you own the town.

Once you're an adult you can repeat the cycle. Only love your kid until the next one is born. Girls matter more then boys always, Men do boring work.

#36 Re: Main Forum » Advanced Civ and Fire » 2019-06-24 00:51:04

This is because Jason no longer dose content updates.

#40 Re: Main Forum » The poll feature, in progress. » 2019-06-19 03:26:04

I think this is a step in the right direction if you ask the right questions.

Could be useful if it recorded their lineage/ Gen number. Also perhaps the age they died at.

Weekly polls post updates would be positive too. Like maybe the next day after people have played around with it, You can ask if they think negatively or positively about the changes.

#41 Re: Main Forum » Why I Think OHOL Has a Grim Future....... #RIP OG OHOL » 2019-06-19 03:08:09

I feel like Jason is in a state of denial atm.

Anytime anyone brings up any flaws Jason almost always throws a paragraph at them.

Anytime someone brings up lack of decent content he brings up "Ohhh, Theirs over 2000 Objokes in the game".

He just needs to do more enjoyable updates and old players would probably return.

There's a reason that I'm not just piling on more content right now.

There's currently enough of it to go around.... 2000+ unique objects.  I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but this is like 3x Minecraft or something already.

Don't Starve has 718 items, for comparison.

Yes, the goal is 10,000 (and I may not get there, but I'll get a good way there for sure).  But more content doesn't necessarily make a good game.  The heart of the game needs work.  If the heart is working better, then we have a more firm foundation upon which to add more content.

Unsolved issues that affect the heart of the game:

--The meaning of your current life and your current family:  How much do you care whether you live or die?  How much do you care whether your children live or die?  The last surviving girl in a village is certainly treated like royalty, but beyond that, life and death feels mostly cheap and meaningless.  Why should you care about the fate of your family or village when you're not coming back anyway?  You currently shrug your shoulders when your baby dies.  Eventually, you should literally scream NOOO! out loud when that happens, and do everything in your power to keep them alive.  Given the circumstances that you find yourself in, this kind of desperation for family survival will create a large variety of different family stories that we currently don't see in the game.

--Interactions between villages:  what's the purpose of interacting?  Is there any mutual benefit?  Do you need to care about what a nearby village is doing?  Do you depend on them in some way?  Is there any contention for resources, or trade, or migration, or necessary conquest/war?  Currently, interacting with another village is mostly done on a whim.  It should eventually be a core part of the game.

--Overall arc of the game:  do we just keep sprialing out into new an infinite wild territory forever?  Does nature keep reclaiming abandoned sections of the map?  Do players have a permanent, lasting effect on the map?  Do resources become permanently scarce?  How does the game evolve over the course of a week or a month, and is there an end?  And if the map is more permanent and centralized, how do new families spawn in the midst of it?  Currently, the game is constantly reverting to a kind of steady state, day after day.  If you play in three days, you won't have a different experience from today.  It should eventually be evolving over several days in some way, giving you a fundamentally different experience each day.  Balancing this potential variability against a consistent new player experience is especially difficult.

--How the heck do people learn this game?  2000 objects is already super-daunting, and it's only going to get worse.

I have spent many weeks in the past piling on content.  While the existing players enjoyed the new content for a short time, the novelty kept wearing off in short order, and I was noticing that the playerbase was not growing as a result of these constant content additions.  It was kindof a steady state regardless of the amount of content added.

With all the new players joining the game every week, the lack of growth meant that our attrition rate was too great.  Essentially, the game is just not good enough yet.  People get frustrated, or bored, or something else and leave.... many of them LONG before they ever exhaust the 2000+ objects in the game.

Adding more content isn't going to change that.  Making the game better will change that.

I would just like to point out that alot of the content is not used by players.

1. Dogs, Served zero perpose and today breeding them is considered griefing.

2. Pigs and pork related recipe. Sure pork tacos are occasionally uses for yum. But nobody is rushing to make pig pens.

3. Cars and Airplanes. Good intentions but the lower tech horse-cart is still favored over them.

4. Radios. More good intentions but sadly still mostly unused to this day.

5. Rail Carts. Useless.

6. Fences and Gates, Pretty much unused content.

7. Locks and Keys. Only for griefers

8. Property Fences. It does get used more then others on this list. But they are still overall hated and ignored by players.

8. Plaster Adobe and Paint. No one makes coloured houses.

9. Pine Structures. Was in the game from the start I think?

Either way it's the OG useless content.

10. Fishing

11. Camera. I could be wrong, I'll check recent pics after this. But I have not seen this in awhile.

12. Alot of the foods like potatoes, Salsa, Ice Cream, Butter. Obscure foods only see use by pro yummers and not the average player.

Gee Jason, That's like a month worth of useless content just off the top of my head.  Then obviously countless weeks of tweaks and bugfixes.

I'm okay with the occasional bug fix update or tweak. Just not when alot of the issues where added by You in previous weeks.

#43 Re: Main Forum » War swords and the zoom out mod » 2019-06-18 16:26:21

I think a possible solution is fog of war mechanic. This way zoomout is no longer useable.

I feel like boardem is the true root of evil in this game, Weather it is raids or internal stuff. All the towns seems to fall under the same categories again and again.

1. Post Diesel. One main building for bakery/Nursery, Various farms and forge area with wood floor. Not really much to do, Occasionally you might build extra tech like car or radio but it dosn't go anywhere.

2. Pre-Diesel. Usually dying out after basic pumps have dried out. Not enough resources to do anything. You could help out by gathering iron and upgrading but future generations get no meaning out of life.

I feel like development is a bit stuck atm. Jason had an Idea of starting with the basics and advancing through various eras. He marketed as a sorta race between Dev and Player. Jason would add NEW STUFF to the game every week. Boardem didn't seem like it would've been so bad. You'd live lives and various eras while Jason adds to them weekly.

But in reality the updates have been mostly bug fixes and tweaks. We aren't really climbing the tech tree.

TL;DR Tech tree has been stagnant for months and players are getting hell board.

jasonrohrer wrote:

Not sure why everyone kills you on sight like that.

I've had that happen too.

I guess it's just because they can?

I mean, even without the war swords, or the lack of cursing, they still could, because you're alone, and they are many.

The difference now is that they KNOW you are not part of their family (language and appearance), where before, you could just blend in.

When I visit another village, I usually try to bring valuable gifts to demonstrate my peaceful intentions.  That works sometimes.

It is mostly trust issues, Griefers can descend from anyone. Nobody wants the anti-Christ with a war sword.

#47 Re: Main Forum » Bell tower murder » 2019-06-13 22:24:50

I don't know why stark fam is so xenophobic compared to others.

#48 Re: Main Forum » im boycotting the stark line » 2019-06-13 22:07:32

I'm not a fan either, Multiple Stark mums have abandoned me. One even took me out of town and stabbed me.

I would just slash die and encourage others to do so. That's more what boycotting is as opposed to just griefing them.

#49 Re: Main Forum » As many food recipes as available, as many recipes as you can think of » 2019-06-13 13:20:38

Some more ways to do eggs.

Egg plus boiling water= Boiled eggs

Vinegar+ boiling water+Egg equals poached egg.

Hot Flat Rock+ Bowl+ Butter+Egg+ Stomper= Scrambled Egg.

Bread plus Hot Flat Rock= Fried bread.

Knife plus pork = Bacon. Cooks on flatrock.

Bacon, Eggs and Toast can be combined on plate for bonus efficiency. Also can be seasoned with pinch of salt for even better result, Pepper too if we had it
