you need to tie it up against a fence.

Yes, I know but what about when you are out riding around and you need to stop for food? Or you see something interesting and need to jump off? Tame/Broke horses do not tend to bolt when their rider gets off them, even if the rider lets go of the reins.

At the very least they shouldn't run when they are hitched to a cart. I lost a horse and cart because I stopped for food and the horse bolted leading me right into a rattlesnake.

It's just really not normal horse behavior. I do admit it is fairly simple to tame them so maybe this behavior is intended to offset that fact but I'd rather have to feed them lots of carrots over time to have a truly tame horse than have to chase it every time I want to ride somewhere and don't have a hitching post handy.

I am actually having this issue after the most recent update. Of course it's on my private server but I know that my client is up to date as I just logged into the main server and played for a bit.

I'm thinking it has to to with updating the server? When I go to update I'm getting this error:

error:Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten by merge:
         scenes/next.txt
Please, commit your changes or stash them before you can merge.

error: The following untracked working tree files would be overwritten by merge:
         scenes/46.txt
         scenes/47.txt
Please move or remove them before you can merge.
Aborting

So I assume it's an issues of the client being up to date but not the server. Any idea what it's talking about and how I can fix it?

Edit: Okay, I fixed it. I went into the scenes folder (On the VM not client side) and deleted 46 and 47. I then edited "next" to say 46. Rebuilt and it works fine.

Posting it here in case anyone else has the same issue or in case there is anything wrong with how I fixed it.

I agree with this. Perhaps floors or walls.

My private server that I use for recording and streaming with my roommate gets wiped any time the server gets restarted. This is even with me logging in to specifically run around the common area to make sure it was seen before restarting the server.

Look at you working on a Saturday when most people are taking a long weekend. This update looks amazing, thank you!

I haven't actually looked at the list but I'm willing to bed a few like

Mike Rotch
Mike Hunt
Hugh Jass

and so on are available.

I named my friend Dorcas because he was being a jerk.

#33 Re: Bug Discussion » v69 Crashing » 2018-03-30 03:47:00

Yup. I was doing fine as usual on my private server but once I logged into the main server and got the update it's been crashing. Too bad, my friend and I were planning to stream it later.

Edit: That is to say it crashes on the main server, not the test server. I realized that read strangely.

#34 Re: News » RAM-based map caching to reduce server CPU usage » 2018-03-28 02:43:39

I dunno, I think having it go after 24 hours makes sense. 24 hours is 1440 years so it makes sense to me that small places would be retaken by the wilderness. Though perhaps an area with buildings should take longer if that's possible.

#35 Re: Main Forum » The Problem with Boys » 2018-03-28 02:26:48

Yeah, I don't get the "kill the males" mindset. I do feel that men get the short straw in this game because of the fact that they have nothing to do with procreation but I'm always happy to be born male because it means I'm free to actually DO stuff.

Amusingly I'm female in real life and usually always play female characters when a game lets me but this game is different. After a few runs of being female I pray for a game as a male.

Hmmm, well that gives me something to go off of so I appreciate it!

I've been playing around with the map editor and I was wondering if it is possible to edit the map I'm currently playing on rather than having to completely create a new map.

I would assume so but I can't see a way to put the current map into the editor so, well, here I am.

well, I think religion is what COMMISSIONED art, so technically money inspired art. mostly.

I bet Michelangelo would have happily painted the sistine chapel with thousands of dicks, if paid well enough! Sure, there are cases in which true belief of the artist inspired his art but mostly in more recent times or way in the past I think... Not in the middle ages

Well he pretty much did cover it in dicks but it wasn't because they wanted him to. He disliked the church and also thought that his being asked to paint when he was a sculptor and not a painter was an intentional attempt to make him fail in a very visible way. A lot of the imagery and symbolism in the Sistine Chapel composition actually angered the church. Pope Paul IV felt that he was suggesting people did not need the church but could commune with God directly. He suspended Michelangelo's pension and even had fig leaves painted on some of the nudes.

I think that's actually a pretty good example of an artists inspiration transcending their desire to be paid.

But back on topic I've only seen that when I replay a recorded game. I've apparently lived on well past my original death by thousands of years.

I get the exact same thing. In fact I was just born into a huge town and after working the farm until someone else took over I had to go find my own little area outside town to work on. Someone came by to ask why I didn't go to town and I told them lag. The more objects lying around the worse it gets, even if there isn't a lot of people.

That's what I would assume. Usually when you order with a credit card you at least need to use your zip and/or phone number in the verification process.

You're both correct and wrong. Recorded game does not store graphical video footage.
Still, they contain all the information your client received from the server, sent to the server and all inputs received from user (mouse clicks, key strokes). Based on that client can replay entire game in real-time.

As response to OP:
Just copy the desired file with recorded game from "recordedGames" directory to "playbackGame" directory. Please also make sure that there is only one single file in "playbackGame" directory and no subdirectories, as those have caused problems in my personal experience. After that you can start OHOL client as if you wanted to play the game. You will see the playback information at the top left corner. You can now sit and watch entrie recording or end it at any time and proceed to play the game normally. Please also keep in mind that as long as client starts in playback mode (there is file in "playbackGame" directory) it won't try to record any more games.

I just gave this a try and it seems to be helping with my video recording issues. Apparently recording the playback is less taxing on my machine. Thanks!

#42 Re: Main Forum » Advice: Alone in the world. What now? » 2018-03-21 21:51:51

I did the same thing though I did it for the purpose of recording tutorials. (Having an issue getting it to record right, though.)

Started a farm, caught lots of rabbits, made an oven, kiln, and forge. Now I'm working on organizing the place and setting it up for the videos, assuming I get them working correctly.

I think that having started a few weeks into the game being live I missed some of the big revelations in unlocking things. I sometimes spawned into these giant cities that had obviously been abandoned but I had no idea how to make use of the things they'd created. So taking a few days to set up my recording server allowed me to play catch up and be a bit more confident in dealing with the live servers.

I tend to be very socially anxious and I've always found that preparing myself and making sure I know things before being put in a situation dealing with people helps me a lot. Previously I'd felt everyone in game was watching me and thinking I had no idea what I was doing and was a waste of resources. Now I feel I can join the live server and be of use.

Sorry, brother. I went south for a very long time and only saw small settlements before a wolf jumped me.

#44 Re: Main Forum » Favorite moments » 2018-03-20 03:56:48

I was born to a mother in the middle of a very large town. I didn't know at the time that she and I were the only people there. She gave me clothes and kept me alive until I could fend for myself. I asked her what I should do to help and she said, "Whatever you want. The world is yours. I must go." and died.

As a boy I had no way to further our lineage but I decided to teach myself some things and try to be helpful to whoever may come next.

I was in my early twenties when a woman and her baby came wandering naked into the town. I am sure she thought it was abandoned and she immediately ran away on seeing me. A few moments later she came back and I welcomed her and told her to stay. I said we had plenty and her and her child were free to share.

I made her a fire and brought her food. She produced a few more children and some even called me father. It was a very sweet and fun time and I felt I had done a good thing and that this place may actually live on.

That's when the arrow hit me.

I'm assuming someone picked it up and shot me by accident and I must admit I burst out laughing even while I was devastated.

#45 Re: Main Forum » We need better communication » 2018-03-20 03:42:49

I think signs would be a good thing. They need to be crafted and would have a limited number of letters so it wouldn't make things too easy and would be pretty realistic. Then you could label things around your camp/civ so people know what's what and even name a place.
