The only thing that bugs me about the temperature update is when you walk over a three tile desert and end up getting double heat shock because you trusted the game to not walk you through those tiles.

On the flip side, it does seem like there is never a biome that is totally enclosed by a biome of a different temperature.

I think I finally understood the fundamental differences between my opinion and those of other vocal forum users. Some enjoy change for the sake of change versus others who expect all changes to bring immediate increases in their enjoyment (progress / improvement).

I do agree that is has gotten harder, but my enjoyment has not changed.

I am content with this game and I enjoy living through the changes. I play on average an hour a day so my limited experiences may factor in.

I strongly believe that progress (changes that improve)  is a subjective term as it tends to be used by people who are not as sceptical about the limits of human knowledge.

ex:

"This change is not progress as it has now ruined the game forever for me." -> How can we know that a direct consequence of this change will not quadruples your enjoyment?

"This change is progress as it will lead to even more positive changes to the game" -> How can we know that a direct consequence of this change will not lead to even worse changes?

"This change has left me indifferent." -> I am indifferent because changes are constant and I don't want to overthink the first two questions after each update. I'd rather just focus on using my free time to enjoy myself.

In contexts that aren't about changes in a game, my position can change...

Biome Shock

Whenever you cross a biome border from one of the freezing or cold biomes into one of the burning or hot biomes, or vice versa, you suffer something called "biome shock". In general, your temperature will immediately change from being cold to being hot, or vice versa. Exactly what happens is a little complicated.

It seems to sometimes two can get shocked twice in a row when the automated path walks through like 2 to 3 hot tiles from and to a colder biome. Seems like a bit overkill but it might have been my imagination when it happened.

I'd have assume biome shock would scale with the size of the biome.

@Grim

just played, didn't really notice a huge difference. just you can't rely on your city as much for food if there isn't someone dedicated to keeping things running smoothly

#33 Re: Main Forum » [Corrected] - Temperature Update - Potentially not so bad. » 2019-02-16 17:14:47

it sounds like a much needed update! i hate looking at naked old people.

(after playing, there was definitely less naked old people and less people eating berries which is not a bad thing)

#34 Re: Main Forum » first game after donkey town... i enjoyed donkey town more » 2019-02-16 17:10:50

people were really not happy when they discovered that i was able to change clothes and hang around town for so long minding my own business while some starved trying to find me in the forest and a person stabbed another trying to transfer a knife.

essentially, the town came to a standstill after the murder. I got at least 4-5 curses when i revealed to the munchers that the killer had been observing them this whole time. I got another series of curses when someone finally stabbed me. A random person healed me which got more people angry and more curses. I got stabbed again and got more curses. I'm pretty sure it was over 10

donkey town is pretty chill

it's just an eve run with no babies to annoy you, i might kill a second time.

you can find the thread

i'd prefer being friends with a killer than a pen breaker or an object mover (actually one of my favorite lives was helping a killer hide)

#36 Re: Main Forum » first game after donkey town... i enjoyed donkey town more » 2019-02-16 03:06:04

by the time i found a bowl, you shot me with a snowball (you chose a fitting username)

eh i got three curses in, i might still curse the name to see what happens  (almost got it finsihed, thx for the curse https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ … 656817915)

nice meeting you, it was definitely a challenge surviving the few minutes i did.

i play with my girlfriend
we are born as twins
a lady accuses me of being a grief with an alt account
my mom defends me
my girlfriend died of starvation
i find the town
she continues to chase me
i start watering berries
she kills me

when once of us dies as twins, we start playing single player because we still want to grow old to see if the town we are born in is a good town.

it sucks growing old in a bad town.

i enjoyed donkey town more than my last life because of June Naro...

I will be sure to curse that name every two hours to see what happens.

i hope eve chains work continue to work in donkey town. (don't know if they do yet, but it would be nice)

#38 Re: Main Forum » What really bugs me... » 2019-02-15 13:30:24

if someone is new when they are my child, i always give them the same tasks.

make a basket, make a sharp stone, make a home marker than go into the wild, survive on wild food and bring back things you find interesting when your basket is full.

I do this because the most basic skill that needs to be learnt is how to survive with nothing and it prevents them from becoming berry munchers when they discover they can explore the map easily without dying. it also gets them in a good position to have children as eve and with luck their first child will be able to show them the ropes for that part of the game.

if not, i just give them specific tasks to help in whatever project i am doing at the moment, so i can either focus on a different part (ex: getting me wheat for compost) or fixing some other issue that I spotted (go from baking to tending a carrot field).

justification & judgement

i don't need to justify myself? i did want i wanted to do in the game and did it. Considering that I died quite old and infertile, seems odd to judge me when you weren't there.

BY THE WAY

I did end up in Donkey Town. It's essentially just solo Eve. I made sure to die of old age to see if I can chain tomorrow. First time having such a well built camp.

Hopefully, the amount of snakes, boars and mosquitos nearby will kill anyone who dares approach it while i am gone.

i killed an adult talking and eating berries
ran away and survived
went back to town
gave a random kid my bag and clothes
spent 10 minutes watching at least 6 people talk about me still eating berries
i left the convo to light the fire that was dying near the forge
someone stabbed a person by mistake while trying to give them a knife to hunt me down
some kid claimed she was my daughter but she wasn't
i revealed my true self
someone stabbed me
someone healed me
someone stabbed me
got cursed a bunch
got reborn (in a town)
/die

i bet those people are still talking and eating berries and the fire died
i could have broken the pen but someone worked hard on that

#44 Re: Main Forum » To my student. » 2019-01-23 19:40:05

Yeah, learning and teaching in game is what makes this a great experience for me.

I will always remember trying to make corn tortillas and only managing to get as far as bowl of corn in limewater as me and my brother spent a most of years just figuring out how to get corn kernels.

nah, i just said i would write caca with the new skills as I am a mature player.

I debated doing Cacavilla, but was too old to find more skewers.
