Glad Steve survived lol Its generally handy keeping the original as they keep producing lambs in case you're ever desperate ie all sheep butchered.

I don't think I've ever killed a mouflon not getting sheep. Even with the temp update I wouldn't kill one for just its hide. The reason I wanted to save her was seeing someone trying to shoot her with a bow. I asked why, and they said the dead sheep babies created are a waste and clutter.. But if its far enough from the village who cares? I walled off that little green patch on the far outskirts for steve because I felt bad for her after that. She helped us so I helped her lol.

That makes me sad, why kill her just because of her babies sad they despawn eventually anyway. Haha must admit some don't develop the emotional connection to things like we do. It's probably an effect of playing the game for a while, I get bored of the repetition of work, work, work. So try to spice things up with a little light hearted roleplay. Well I say light hearted but... recently asked my son to stab me to help end the world hmm we had one of my nieces tag along and she was quite shocked (new) lol that was entertaining.

I'm going to start naming the farm animals now, maybe even write some notes for them smile

I wish i was in the town with the snake that was posted here. I would have made sure he had a bowl of water and plenty of dead sheep babies to eat.

Also twisted's new video is from the Schuler village. I honestly didn't think that village would go as long as it did.

Yeah I find it sad that people don't feel the need to learn the end game because it doesn't benefit your village to do so. As much use as a tractor would have I fear you would still run into the problem of people stealing and dumping the things. I think it's just bad overall to have the very top of the tree be a bunch of toys that are better off just ignoring.

What if the tractor drove at the same speed as you run while holding a dug stone? I doubt people would steal and joy ride them then! They'd be a tool tool you'd make and leave by the farms and they'd probably stay close if that was the case. Maybe the engine would only run for 15 seconds, but give you as many tilled rows as you could crank out in that time.

#632 Re: Main Forum » We need more kerosene level tech. » 2019-02-24 08:39:33

Agreed, and i feel like you are right about tech needing to appeal to the masses and have a use. I do have faith that things can be made to push tech to a point where the overall playerbase will stive for technology for both necessity and satisfaction.

While it probably can be argued with, I'd like to imagine the playerbase being split into about 5 ranking categories where people can fall into or in between. What I think separates tier 4 from 5 is knowing all the tech. Both 4 and 5 can both see the bigger picture of things happening or needed in the game (what separates tier 4 from 3) ,but if you cant make it ALL you are a step behind.

What stops me from actually trying to move up to the final tier is what you described, I dont want to learn something that I feel won't help anyone but myself. Sure the airplane can be useful as is, but its not something that I need to build for the village.

Now if the diesel engine got put on a tractor...

I have a box of worms under the sink and they eat veggie scraps and give me free potting soil, which is a big deal in NYC where soil is like $8 for a bag, and I have kind of a large roof garden.

Anyway I'll check out the post.

Worms are for acquiring old boots when you want fish, and fish when you want old boots haha.

As for reading, I don't really read literature, just a alot of informative material. The only author I have read multiple books from was Steinbeck back in school, but I can actually imagine some of those stories portrayed by OHOL characters pretty well.

Well this is true of every main server town right?

That said, I like the idea of close suburbs better, though.  You can more easily totally move the entire town over if you wanted, and could maybe even achieve it as a woman.

I love when there are two towns are just far enough from each other, but connected by road. It makes them one town without half the population even knowing about the other side existing.

I remember like one of the first times making a mine i pulled as them out as fast as I could and I didn't even get 10. I thought "man the gods must dislike pulling with speed" and ever since I've pulled slow and always gotten a good amount.

I also envision wars between villages.

A lot of this stuff may never emerge, but I'm going to at least keep those doors open.

I hope this means more dye in the future smile

I could imagine some sort of war between colors like green against the purples!

The other game I heavily play is a ww2 mod for a fps game, and I've had dreams where OHOL characters were running around wearing German and American helmets haha.

Also my worst cold cache start is probably only 12 to 15 seconds, and my computer specs are almost below average now.

So i was just born into a pretty new village that was about 6 or 7 gens in. It was just populated enough to where there wasn't an extreme food demand, but still supply could have always been increased. There were groups of two people working on the pen and a lot of farmers, but an over supply of plates, and an extreme abundance of ponds with geese eggs. There was a temple in the corner where it seemed like it had a bigger purpose than just being flashy, but I decided to make it my workstation.

I helped keep the village afloat with that station. Right when the population boom hit, my omelette station was there cranking out food as the berry fields got overeaten. I did other things on the way for eggs too though, and the flat stone fire only died near the end of my life when i had to mend the carrots and make more plates for the eventual pies.

So If you don't have a pen set up yet, and the berry and carrot fields do not have compost for support, don't forget about your friend the egg! Especially if there is an overabundance of ponds nearby.

Also, imagine if I hadn't changed clothing/buildings at all, and had just removed desert and jungle from the game as the only change....

What would have happened then?

I wouldn't have fruit boots or a cactus god to make offerings to!

The fixes today were good though, and I'm confident we ARE adjusting our playstyle accordingly.. It just takes time to adjust and figure out the new norm.

If deserts were eliminated it would be a step back for not only food and temp, but obviously tech. You could almost make a better point that if you removed the snow biome there would be less of an impact on the game right now. I know that there could be some cool stuff that the arctic could bring in the future so obviously I dont want that.

I do feel like the arctic could offer some other food other than a ice holed fish right now though. If there was another wild food in the extreme cold, it might be a good balance for survival. A one time use resource like bananas. Maybe like some kind of nut that needs a sharp stone to get.

Show the nuts some love! They are a great foraging food in life.

I'm a little late to this post but the abandoned towns are definitely out there. It's definitely a side hobby of mine in this game but like stated, should only be done in certain circumstances.

I have an old topic on finding ruins that maybe I should update..

And in terms of my vision for the game, or why players would use buildings or clothing---this isn't Minecraft Creative Mode, folks.  I'm not trying to make a game where you build stuff "just for fun" or "because it looks cool."  I'm trying to make a game where you build stuff because you have to---because your survival depends on it, and because it's optimal.  The walls in this game have always had R-values.  There has always been a thermal propagation model (it was one of the first things that I coded on the server, four years ago).  Walls were supposed to be functional.  That's why you'd want to build them.

You can still build efficiently for your survival and have a little zazz in there smile Every creation does bear a creator's mark in some way.

I would like to know why you think we weren't building enough before though?

I used to make them all the time

I can even find examples on the fourm where people built massive temples on desert, where they never should have been, and were dubbed noob cookers.

Most players learn small and do tend to build horribly at first. I think your common player would be able to build a tiny house if needed, but with greater builds like sheep pens or a mosquito trap they're not going to know how to tackle the job.

#642 Re: Main Forum » Tips for Eve camp » 2019-02-19 21:57:45

My tips for eveing right now is to find a massive green biome that meets a massive blue biome. Then make a kiln at the meeting of the biomes as the first thing and gather any rope you can next to it. Have kids on the outside of the green biome where there could also be bonus foods like bananas and cactus fruit. Show your kids your spot and say "base here" and run back to biome edge to feed and raise kids. When kids get hair bring them to kiln and they can help and all the food close to your start isn't taken.

Ok not defending Jason at all but do you understand what OPEN SOURCE means?

Um, do you understand what open source means? That anyone can take the code and make their own similar game, is irrelevant to the people who buy Jason's game. Linux server code is open source, if I buy server services from someone and they fuck it all up it doesn't mean I can't sue because I could set up my own servers, no shit. If I wanted to make my own ohol, then why did I buy Jason's in the first place? By paying Jason, you are not buying the code (only), you are buying into the community offered by the servers. Changing the game completely day over day with no heads up at all is quite unreasonable, and saying that the game is open source, just make your own, or just set up your own server, is not a reply to that. All you are saying indirectly without realizing it is ask for a refund, you shouldn't have bought this game, because those alternatives *are* free. I don't want to play on my own in a local server, I want to play where people can join me, where I can find other villages etc. That is what I bought when I bought ohol.
So the issue here is that the dev made a very radical change, which makes previous gameplay useless, the game becomes the opposite of what it advertises itself to be, and what previous experience suggested. I am not a lawyer, so I have no idea how this would work out in practice, but the grounds seem thin. Not because of the game being open source, but because well, devs can update their games and change the code how they want, and you can't really sue over a game sucking pretty hard. This issue was also raised with F76, of broken promises and clear issues, and it was specified that people can't sue over the actual game being bad and buggy, but they can sue over the physical nylon bag being advertised as canvas.

You say its irrelevant yet Dual Decade did that for the mobile version and then you got Two Hours One Life. Both of those exist and have players without jason and can do whatever they please with the source code. Even greep could make a completely different game and add or delete whatever he pleases on his One City Server if he wanted. Yes you just stated it again for me but, YOU ARE ONLY BUYING SERVER ACCESS! The whole game itself can be downloaded free on github!

So tell me. Are the servers working? If you were suing because you literally couldn't access the servers (like when russian ISPs couldn't access) then you might have more of a legal foundation to take action. Just because you don't like what is on a server doesn't mean you can't access it.

False advertising claims are usually based in personal feelings, but guess what? The laws really don't care about your feelings. Unless its something like premeditated vs crime of passion, where they just need to figure out how to categorize you.

IMO Eve camps should be really difficult.

Honestly, I didn't play from the end of June-January, I got into my busiest season and also kept getting into different games and not coming back.

I always hated the desert meta. I always set up my camps in green lands, and only stopped cause all my babies would suicide because they were "noob traps".

So people are saying things like "rabbit hunter needs to be a job", it always should have been a job, it used to be a job, finding clothes was one of the first things you did, along with getting agriculture set up.

Eating berries in warm climates and mutton pies as a byproduct of compost made everyone complacent.

I've ran off to create so many camps that didn't survive in my time, it's the nature of the game. Life is sad. Even with good players Eve camps shouldn't have more than a 75% survival rate, if that. Granted, with civilization established, not a lot of people should be spawning as Eves.

and seriously, I can't say this enough times, but the cause of the useless berry eaters is that civilization is supporting them fine. They may be noobs, but they're never going to truly enjoy the game or learn to be better if they use it as a primitive chatroom where they stand around eating berries.

I just feel like he could have done this with keeping jungles the same temp and doing everything else that he did. There is no last bastion for a casual or newer player to learn. All the people on the not so good side of the scale die before they can even type out "I'm new"

I wouldn't reccomend this game how it is right now like i have to people I know personally in the past.
