he is a succesful developer, wtf
okay, sorry, STAY a successful dev.
Don't you dare insult the whiteboard style, it's a wonderful supporting visual aide here.
Anyway, if you meant to compare that endless pursuit of pleasure leads to eventual pursuit of pain, therefor creating griefers out of 'boredom' - then I'm sorry but that is literally just human nature.
No matter what you do with your game, you can not change the fact that humans are emotional and unpredictable beings. It almost seems as if you want to mold us into the 'perfect players' for your perfect game, and enforcing your idea of how people should play your game only your way, otherwise they are wrong in your eyes.
I've seen you basically express this desire of yours, even if you use the front of 'but it's open source, you can do whatev', it's not a secret that you don't even acknowledge players if they use the zoom mod and refuse to work with them, because it is 'against your vision'.
Look Jason, it's okay if you just want to create your own vision - but you can't also expect people to love everything you make and play it only how you intend.
Where is the fun in that? We might as well watch a movie or read a book at that point, it's hardly playing if we're just following your intended scripts.
With all due respect, I think you have to work on yourself and how you view your players if you want to be stay a successful game developer.
Yes++
I've built pantries in a few towns to centralize the food and free up the kitchen. People didn't get it and either took off with the whole boxes of food hauling them into the kitchen or turned the pantry into another nursery/bakery.
For me it would be "if you feed a sheep also make a compost, if you make a compost feed a sheep."
>need wool
>feed sheep
>spend years making compost
>meanwhile someone shore my sheep
>back to square 1
Maybe not something that takes so much time?
Anyway, it would be nice if people just picked the damn carrots they planted. I think a nice tradition would also to plant a maple at some point in your life.
We can't even scoop onions into a pile and need to dedicate a whole square meter for a single tomato...
I think pockets on dresses/skirts is a bit low on the 'why can't we?" list.
Why so complex on the tattoo?
Just use a string on a needle and attach it to a short stick. Prison tats are usually made like that (needle wrapped in thread attached to a pencil), the charcoal ink is a good idea tho
IDK if it's been mentioned, but how about making a more in-depth linage scoreboard with ladder resets so it's not forever dominated by older lines from a time where the game was completely different.
It doesn't seem fair to compare those lives lived facing very different challenges and advantages. Aside of that, make families smaller so people care more for their kids. Perhaps only related women could breastfeed children so they won't just get dumped at a nursery?
Reducing birth rate might make raising kids and keeping them alive way more important as well.
Jesus Christ the dump of hate you guys have given me for this post! You have to realize that sharing this helps you find pit-bull griefers
I gotta agree, they took it a bit too far.
You basically doxxed this player and went on a witch hunt, going out of your way to find and kill them. Moreso, some even vowed to kill anyone who as much as tries to raise dogs. I feel bad for those poor new players who just found out you can have a dog, think it's adorable and can't wait to try it only to get murdered. Congrats, you just scared off a potential regular player. Or worse, you just created another griefer who thinks it's okay to kill people for no reason.
And how much time did all of ya'll spend on this revenge quest that could have instead been spent on having fun, or being productive, or doing laundry, or jerking off ffs
Chill out a bit and take a moment to applaud this player for having the balls to step up and share how they do it. Don't stomp on someone because they found a way to abuse the system.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
milkweed discussion
After reading this earlier I decided to spend a life farming milkweed and see how it goes.
As soon as I managed to grow a 3x3 patch, half of it was stolen as soon as it was ready. Not surprising so instead I had to find a nearby but far enough plot with 2 wormy soil pits and literally spent TWENTY YEARS to produce five whole damn rope. Understandably I starved myself at the age of 39.
I had to abandon every child I birthed.
I had to commute a fair distance and make sure no one followed me just to protect my crop.
I did not steal tools and returned everything I used.
I almost starved three times.
Not a single person thanked me when I delivered the final haul to the town.
So yes, rope farming needs a serious overhaul.
Worst one ive seen: Put the key for the box in the box, then closed the box
Ayyy I was gonna say that as my fuckup, so you must have been my witness.
I've gotten a bit smarter now.
Worse I ever saw: One woman asking another to stab her, a few minutes later 6 people were killed in the resulting blame game.
All these talks about realism make me wonder - where are the rivers?
Rivers basically allowed humankind to settle and farm, therefor allowing for advancement and growth.
Why don't we have rivers in the game? I imagine they could work like a pond, giving only one bowl of water at a time. To balance the advantage of infinite water bowls, the amount of pond spawns could be reduced (eggs end up cluttering up every town anyway).
Few ancient cities were ever founded around a pond. I know this would be a huge pain in the butt to implement but it would up realism a lot more than making an intricate temperature system even more complex.
It could mostly solve the whole 'biome of the month' issue as well, as settling close to water creates another important variable in deciding where to establish a base, regardless of biome.
No idea on changing the code but I feel like it might be challenging. In traditional sense running ultrawide display resolutions that are supported in a game give you more real estate. They don't stretch the view, you literally just see more. For games like first person shooters, your peripheral vision is hulk status. RTS - you see everything going on plus a chunk of shroud. In OHOL, you'd see unloaded tiles. When the map chunk first loads about 8-10 tiles beyond the normal view cutoff will be loaded. When you are in transit towards an edge, it takes about until three tiles away from the cut to load another chunk. An traditional approach to UW resolutions would mean you would see beyond the displayed tiles. For me personally, it runs completely fine in normal resolution of 3440x1440 in drawn cursor, but the cursor is confined at the top and bottom edges. The cursor position is emulated from a 16:9 rez to a 21:9 rez and sometimes has some false positives and such. Changing my monitor resolution to 2560x1440 runs flawlessly though, and it fills the entire monitor with barely any stretching feeling, so not worried about it for the while. As far as running multi display Xx1080 resolutions, there might not be much success to be had.
Kudos to you for the attempts though! I thought I was the craziest one running a 3440x1440 100hz rez and just playing OHOL more than a lot of things.
Right, the whole more screen = advantage thing. I guess it also exists with the zoom mod, so I'm not pushing this issue initially at least.
Oh well, it was worth a shot and the day I spent meddling with it. I learned a lot about how the sprites are configured at least, so my next project might be to do a full sprite overhaul.
And hey, you can always count on there being a crazier person with even more monitors trying to force ridiculous resolutions on obscure games. My reason for the setup is flight sim and occasionally CS:GO (you are absolutely right about the FOV advantage), and you can almost always be assured people who use flight sims are their own kind of crazy
People will have sex in any context I suppose even a survival game.
Oh my sweet summer child, this game is basically asking for it with encouraging role playing, nudity and lack of word filters. Might as well be surprised people use the hump poseballs in Second Life.
It gets really weird when people start to role play sex in FPS games over voice chat... Nothing like getting cyber raped in CS:GO by a 12 year old.
Just helped someone advance their bang list by accidentally stabbing an old man while moving firewood. I feel a little dirty. >.>
At least he died happy, getting banged by a willing lady.
I was the willing female working on my bang list, thanks for helping out! I was gonna post it but didn't get a screenshot - but you're all the proof I need.
So I got these down thanks to you <3

There is a difference between modding FOV and changing the aspect ratio. OHOL is native 16:9, and 21:9 is bugged and throws off the cursor as well. Jason is aware but debugging it is hard without havong a ultrawide himself. I change my desktop to 16:9 from 21:9 to play on my monitors because both of them are UHD displays. One day it will get fixed.
Is there any way I can change the aspect ratio without editing the code? Just because it is bugged doesn't mean it shouldn't be available - plenty of things are bugged in the game and I can still easily mess around with them via the settings folder.
I understand why he can't develop for it at the moment, but why make it so hard for others to adjust just because it's a little wonky?
A while ago I figured out that the wooden frame kind of doubles as a picture frame, so I got bored last night and spent a life taking selfies with people in town.
Gaze upon the results of this basic bih's life~

BAAAAAAA
Grandma was happy to take a picture with me
Love the ones I got with the elders
I have to say this was a lot of fun, it was nice break from the usual routine.
Are you available on the discord?
I'm definitely interested in helping you achieve your goal.
I would like to make changes to make widescreen work that way in OHOL, but I don't have one myself so I wouldn't be able to test those.
If perhaps we could talk on discord I could share with you testing binaries and we could work from there.
Yes, I'm on the OHOL discord with the nickname 'Eva'
Playing without the zoom mod after enabling fullscreen and useLargestWindow leads to some weird stuff.
For one, I seem to be lagging off screen when running for a while:
When I stop running I stay "off" screen in the black area.
Which lead me to my second discovery: I can interact with items beyond the borders, as you can see here in a screenshot of me hovering over a bone pile off screen:
From these findings it is clear that I can access the world beyond the displayed ratio, now I just need to be able to get rid of these darn black borders.
Shepherd's pie would be amazing
baked potato + bowl = baked potato in bowl
baked potato in bowl + sharp stone = mashed potato
Mutton + copper pot = mutton in copper pot
mutton in copper pot + bowl of corn kernels = Mutton and corn in copper pot
Mashed potatoes + mutton and corn in copper pot = Unbuttered shepherd's pie
butter + unbuttered shepherds' pie = buttered shepherd's pie
buttered shepherd's pie + oven = Baking shepherd's pie
hand + baking shepherd's pie = Shepherd's pie
Why so complex and involve copper? We already have mutton pie, just keep everything up to the mashed potato and add the bowl of mashed potato to raw mutton pie.
Who cares there's crust on it - this is survival, not Top Chef
I've seen airdale puppy ghosts, but I think that's a known one.
I have experienced the reed bug, and also encountered a fishing pole with a caught fish stuck next to an ice hole.
Probably clothes, especially backpacks. Cant have enough of them and they stack very nice in a cart ( shoes and pants in the backpack leaves +1 backpack slot open and only takes one slot in the cart)
I'm going to agree with you. Just like with stew a lot of labor goes into backpacks, and even advanced civs needs them especially if early gens wiped out nearby rabbit populations.
So I'd say go backpacks instead of baskets, fill one with furs if there are any and one with snares.
As iron is a limited resource looting it is a must, fill every remaining nook and cranny you can with it - good thinking on the shears as well, as long as they are pristine.
Prioritize unfinished forged tools (axe head, shovel head, etc..) over finished pristine tools - you can't pocket an axe but you can pocket an axe head.
Personally I would also use a space in the cart to put in a full stack of bowls. Clay is limited and every civ can always use more bowls regardless of size.
In case I suck at articulating myself in words, here's a crappy mock-up of what I would like to look like:
Without the black bar/break of course, UI should ideally be centered with the BG texture continuing, but scaled is fine too. If it could also fullscreen it would be ideal, but I'm likely asking too much.
At original zoom level it might not even show fog.
I wonder if anyone can help me here, I've been trying to get OHOL to span across my 3 monitors at a 5760x1080px resolution using the zoom mod.
I am using NVIDIA PhysX to emulate a single widescreen monitor at the aforementioned resolution.
So far I have tried adjusting just about every resolution/screen ini in the settings, and the best result I got was getting the window to span across the screen, however the game is still locked in it's ratio:
Is what I'm trying to do even possible?
I know the server won't give me more info and I will end up with fog on the far edges depending on FOV, but that's not the point.
And before you ask why - there isn't really a reason other than to see if it's possible.
Wow, mind being a bit less toxic? Do you want more players and help make the game more accessible to newcomers or do you just want to crush them with meta as soon as they load up the game?
