It would be good if you had food effect your temp meter, that would get people making at least three types.

How many of murderers kill more than one victim? I bet it's like 90%.

Yep. Gotta admit, for the first time since I got the game I killed people, and a few. I was part of that 21%
After spawning in three starting villages where alot of us were murdered by one person when I finally spawned in town and uncle started killing people. I was a Murder, and so was he.
I think he died of old age. Straight after we got super over populated and none of the adults were leaving or supporting the farmers much. Most of the farmers were still naked while we got clothes at birth. I actually thought my sister who was wearing the crown was screwing around too so I got frustrated enough I killed her on my way to hunt a bear.
I realized I screwed up not long after she actually died when I saw her tools south, she was trying to farm something.
After that I kept trying to find caves, having no luck so thought I'd got back to see if anyone found any. When I came back there were even more kids and a couple of the adults kept asking to be killed, so I did. Two of them.
Eventually I found a cave, pissed the bear off, shot it and came back to town to make more arrows.
When I did I found someone wasting boards we needed for carts making a road to nowhere, tried to kill her, realised I became a bit of a serial killer then dropped the bow near her and let her kill me.
That was my first time killing people.

I bet if I just ranged around a village or town I could have picked off everyone that leaves town without being caught. That could've been 10 or 13 in town before anyone sees you to even retaliate.

An easy fix is just to change the pitch higher depending on the temp/time it will take til your death

#55 Re: Main Forum » This game hates me. :-) » 2018-06-05 14:49:43

Your mum chose I mean.
I might even kill both...

#56 Re: Main Forum » Make Lassos Great Again! » 2018-06-05 08:09:57

Nah, make it so lasso's can hold someone and prevent them from quitting or dying without someone having to hold them. So whoever catches them can leave them in a spot to eat and it takes another player to release them.
I reckon that'd be far worse punishment for a griefer than just killing them.

#57 Re: Main Forum » This game hates me. :-) » 2018-06-05 08:02:23

lol, I think its the name you chose.
The only person I know with that name is one of the worst people I know. tbh...
If I saw someone with that name in the game, I'd probably shoot her too.

#58 Re: Main Forum » Having some trouble with farmed food design » 2018-06-05 07:54:11

LOVE the olive idea.
As for the rest, I think its inevitable that (until the tech tree starts to progress vertically instead of horizontally) we will end up with types of crops defined by five or six ways of growing/cooking.
That's not a bad thing and a sense of regularity would help new players. It also wouldn't hurt if we had a choice of crops that don't penalize us. Like a scones which replenish a few less bars but have no plate afterwards.

Perhaps more ways to compost as well would help

Clearly you are suffering from survivors bias, regressive bias, and clustering illusion bias, and reliance on anecdotal evidence.

Close to 1.7 million lives have been made on this game, yet only about 95.6k lives made it to over 55 years old.   That means only about 5% made it to elder.  It is a rare occurrence.

Frankly if you make to elder (+55) more times then not, I considered you an expert player.  But are you honestly evaluating you performance?  Are making it to 45 and considering it elder?

How many of those lives made it past infancy?
It's a really troublesome stat since not only is there the infant mortality rate to consider, but the spike for 14 year old Eves.

I'd love to see life expectancy stats for people that survive more than five years. (past 0-5, and 14-19)

Life expectancy for Y for age X would be nice.

Yeah, it would.
What I've noticed is if I can make it past 7, I generally live til elder unless I get REALLY bad luck or crap kids

Nah, we need 3.
1 for pro, 1 for new and 1 for got the basics down

That's not to say that you will still keep every kid- there's still a chance you will get a very new (or just plain bad) player, but good communication can definitely up your kids chances of survival smile

Tried that on my last game, out of 9 kids only ONE wasn't stupid. Half of them said they weren't new but kept jumping out of my arms and the rest overate. One daughter ate every berry on one bush in a minute.
Most annoying was when the one daughter that got to breeding age kept feeding her first son til she died, less than a minute before we got the farm and kiln started

Yeah, last time I was a woman I gave birth to four kids while I was taking care of the berry farm. Tons of berries. They all ran off as soon as they could pick things up and they starved to death. Well, one suicided as a baby, but the others should have been fine.

Same. Normally I get one to two good kids out of 8.

I think we all miss those.
Especially the cities for me. That was where I learned the most about the game.

So how can you work against that? Teach and help new players and its more likely that they will stay.

Yeah but with everything being nerfed there's no time to teach anyone anything. Even without the water update there's only a few villages and no towns left. Everyone is so consumed with surviving there isn't time to teach new players anything.
Its pretty much driven away all but the hardcore players.

#65 Re: Main Forum » More players? » 2018-05-31 14:54:52

about right.
I still don't know why there isn't a beta with updates on like server 2 or something.
I don't know if jason realizes the amount of players he loses permanently without one. 14000 people owning it and less than 100 coming back each week....
I wouldn't be surprised if it end up dead in a month the way things are going

Does jason think we have too much free time in game or something?
I don't see how you farm milkweed AND farm at the same time. Hell, the soil cost alone makes it hard enough after a couple generations without this. Add into it eves that can't afford the time to set up new plants and new players....
I'll check it out, but it looks like this will be another few weeks without playing it for me.
These updates should be implemented on a separate server, like 2hol with an option to opt in or not, otherwise he's gonna kill the game. There's already been a pretty big decline of new players and old ones dropping off and I'd hate to see this game die before it really takes off

#69 Re: Main Forum » THE EVES! THE EEEVEEEEEEEEES!!!!!! » 2018-05-25 06:13:32

I'm almost always a baby, lately boys.
But I mostly play on server 1. My respawn ratio is like 10-1.
I love being an eve with one or two good kids. It gives you a rush to log in awhile later an be born into your original setup.
Hasn't happened to me for awhile

Oh, and in one of the threads He Who Is said he's looking into a way to deter suiciding.

Yeah, I am trying to work out core principles here that everything will abide by as I add more stuff.

I think to solve this you might need to rethink one of your core ideas "Everything runs out".
IRL if used correctly, everything doesn't run out. Fertile soil CAN be made infertile, but only by incorrect planting or by overplanting certain types of crops (palm oil). The same can be said for hunting which is well represented currently.
What would work is if there were a few more types of tech upgrades which cost ever increasing resources.

We have the bronze/iron age now right?
Why not start making that more definable?
Like add large 80 to 250 copper mines. Bronze tools taking the use cost iron currently is, new ones like spears for hunting bears (make it two spears instead of 4 arrows) or parts to make other, new items which make some things less time consuming. Then you can make it slightly more complicated to make iron, add iron tools, iron band wheels for wagons, and later repeat the process with steel, marble, corn, potatoes ect when you update later versions. Animals would work too. Using wool/leather to make better clothes/backpacks.
Or rare animals and plants which regrow, but once in a generation and unable to spawn near each other.

There's always going to be speed runners, same as griefers, but in saying that with more in the tech tree and items eventually you will make it so no village can make everything. Even after 100 generations. Maybe that would also promote trade in cities and make them more compact.

#72 Re: Main Forum » No Father? » 2018-05-23 09:22:20

The main thing to remember with this game is its made by a single dude and evolving over time.
In the future He Who Is (Jason) might update for Adams as well as Eves, but for one person that'll take alot of coding

Maybe this is a strictly Western or even English idea....  or maybe the meanings have just been lost/forgotten.  My first name supposedly means "healer," but nobody knows that meaning.

Its all meaning I guess.

I think that names, like ideas and concepts develop over time into a more complex versions of themselves.
Like with my culture, we were colonized a little over 200 years ago so we still have a duality of meanings in our names. On one of the more popular soaps here one of their names is Maori, Te Koha O Rangi, which translates as The Gift of Heaven In English, where my first name is Steven, has its meaning is lost over several dozen cultures which all attributed their own. In Maori, its Tipini, which literally translates to Steven.

I'll try to find a database that big that isn't just on single cultures, but I don't know where to look at the moment.

Yeah, I thought accents would be a bit much.
Here is a link to the site I found with a list only ' instead of the macrons.
http://www.thenamemeaning.com/categorie … ian-names/

The good thing is because of the origins quite a few are the same in south asian countries too.
Nice work on fixing the decay problem btw. It made a massive difference

#75 Re: News » Update: Name that baby » 2018-05-15 11:17:32

Any chance you could add polynesian names?
As for the American thing, well... Hawaii. Plus, you've got a few players from New Zealand that would like to be able to use them
