a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

The github is back, with what appears the issues intact
I submitted an abuse report to github stating that someone was misusing their abuse system to harrass a creator.
My message
My name is Bryan Bartlett, and I play a game called One Hour One Life (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Hour_One_Life) which is a critically acclaimed game about civilization building.
The owner, https://github.com/jasonrohrer, which I have files for One Hour One Life downloaded from for modding, has been taken down and marked as flagged.
It seems this happens within 24 hours of a player making hotly heated comments about the creator on the forums.
I ask that, as a concerned member of the community, that a member of your team search google for One Hour One Life to see the creator is a legitimate game designer, and who's game has been widely hailed as a "masterpiece of game design", and who has shown that a game that is open source can still be a successful game, proving that GitHub is still a place for independent developers to reach their audience. Thank you
Hope it helps.
absolute BS! Get with github, and go ahead and link to them as many articles as you can find of reviews and critiques and reports about the game to show them you are legit.

Frankly I think the croc would be better than the bucket for wheat... but still, I don't think this will "make" people be neat. It's just that now I have to resort to making fields of "junk" outside of town and I'd rather sort those items in to places where they belong *in* town so they can be used. It makes the job of cleaning feel more productive. Right now I just feel like those people who come the hoarder's homes and make them throw everything away "I don't care if someone might want to grow a rose some day that seed has been sitting by the kiln for 200 years"
That means thinking about *work flow* for common tasks like baking, smithing etc.
People will still be messy but at least with more storage options it would feel more possible to organize the town without just chucking anything that isn't actively being used.
But but, it took us 120 years to get that to a white, and we missed planting it, so we got another 100 years before we can make it a white seed again!
If the trouble is /die babies trying to be Eve, then perhaps a solution for the short term is having a "Past Life" Score
+1 for every consecutive 10 years you live (so +6 for dying of old age)
-5 for every /die
And if you don't have 5 Past life score, you can't /die
Get a Past Life Score of 60 and you can choose to re-spawn as an Eve (for cost of 60 Past Life Score) using a /eve command on a 50 year old character (kills character, flags as eve for respawn)
This would of course be separate from the normal Eve Generation.
The patterns remind me a lot of the Game of Life...
Which is a testament to the game design.
I see one potential misuse.
You will start having some males do nothing but hang around the town's fire (like right on top of a woman there), or following a female constantly and doing nothing else, for the single purpose of spreading his genes.
I like the idea in general though
Not much of a resistance, more that I think even if you have the storage solution in place, you still will have storage problems, but in this case buckets of wheat everywhere instead of bowls of wheat.
Storage solutions are great, I am all for it. I agree with the idea of a place for everything and everything in its place.
But part of that is the overall community training on also not doing something for the sake of doing something.
A Place for Everything, and Everything in it's Place
A Purpose for Everything, and do Everything with a Purpose

Doesn't disprove my point.
Actually I believe it does. You went on a high horse rant, on something that had a player creating something, Jason asking (not demanding) if it could show other data, and the player saying yes, I can do it.
Quite frankly, if the way you ranted is the normal way you "offer" help, Im not surprised you have been given the cold shoulder. There is no reason for that, regardless if you feel wronged or not.
After all, we are all mature individuals here, I hope.

That won't help make baking more organized.
Trouble is, in my opinion, more of a human issue than a coding one, and its that humans nowadays are not wired for sustainability. In one game I played, I told them to stop harvesting the wheat, because I had no more plates to make pie with. Wheat can be used at any time after it grows, so its best to leave in ground. Yet people will harvest everything, put it aside, replant, repeat, and expect people using it to keep up.
Now, I love using slotted boxes for pie making, because if you got a box of uncooked pies, and you cook one, then right click the box, it swaps out the cooked pie for an uncooked one (if all pies are same type), because right clicking a containor does not swap between all items, but swaps between each different item! (go ahead and try it with 9 items the same, one different, and right click, it will always alternate)
Farms should have boxes (slotted or not depending on item), that they fill up from their farm. And do not pick more food until their supply boxes go low. Whoever needs the items can go get it directly from the boxes. Imagine a farmer with 20 milkweeds. He picks them all, makes 10 thread, puts them in a box, then collects the seeds to replant all the milkweed and wait till those threads need replacing (which for milkweed can be done moment they used). If no one is making rope, why bother making more thread.
It would be amusing if moms could assign fatherhood too.
“Adam Pu is your dad.” XD
I did not have relations with that woman!
Billy Pu is not my lover, she's just a girl who thinks I am the one. But that kid is not my son

Oh I like Valareos’s thought process.
Interesting approach!
Needs some balance to ensure there isn’t just that one guy lurking by the fire claiming all the BB’s, but it’s a cool idea.
Easy enough to add a timer. claim recharge at 5 min or whatever, to ensure you only get 1, and its age 5 before getting another
I suppose the question becomes how is it decided now where a child goes? Is it a random chance? Is there some sort of algorithm to use?
Changing fertility rates, IMO, wont be very useful, and you don't want to make it comparatively harder for an eve to spawn children.
And any change must be minimal so as not to require much reworking.
I propose this:
During the age when a child can be picked up, a male can pick up the child and say "I am your Father" (regardless if the kids name is Luke or not )
This sets the child as son or daughter of the male, and in the family tree, it links that child as the male's descendant. It becomes another way for a family line to be continued, even if all females die, a male making it to another city can become the father of another child, and the line continues.
So the following comes into play.
1: No need to track spouses in family tree. Just linking a child to two different parents.
2: Males trace their genealogy back through the male line, females through the female line. Descendants for both work as it does now.
3: Let unnamed babies choose their own first and last name when they no longer can be picked up. (More for males who unnamed to create their own line)
4: Give all babies who has at least 1 living parent a bonus to food use. If you got a parent, your food level decreases a bit slower
5: A male can not claim fathership of a child that is 3 or less degrees of separation. No great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, children, grand children, great-grandchildren, Uncle, Aunt, great-uncle, great-aunt, or Cousins. All other relations are OK.
6: Male claiming fathership must be same fertile age as required by mothers.
This system will allow fathers, give a reason to become a father, not affect mother fertility or game play at all, and minimizes work needed on code to make it functional.
She did not, sadly
certainly not complaining. This is the first time I have been in the middle of a massacre, I died at age 60 though. But it was certainly a sad way to die... Riding through the desert on a horse with no name, and a cart full of 12 pies. I hope someone finds it and benefits. The town too, its got a bell tower and a lot of stock
I did have 2 children after the massacre, but they did /die quicker than I could inform them we were all that were left to rebuild
Rest in Peace, Seo Family
Born into the family, I took over the bakery when the baker died. I continued making pies, filling up the stores.
Somebody comes bleeding, asking for help, and dies right in front of me and my son, James. James, bless his soul, asks for a knife to hunt the stranger. I give it to him.
Shortly after, James comes back, bleeding, and dies in front of me. Outside, I hear death, and despair.
When it finishes, I find myself all alone, and past the age to bear children. The last survivor in a now ghost town. I do what I can, I bake all remaining pies, feed the sheep, then pack up the horse and wagon full of food and begin to head out, hoping to find my other daughter who had struck out to make her own village.
I never found her, and died alone, and now my horse rides the wilderness, with a cart full of pies.
Sorry I died as soon as you told me, but thank you for informing me bowls of wheat count as wheat seed source! I did not know that!

ok, so server I am on is most active. So why so many other servers? (at the moment most are 0 lol)
I am hard working, I don't use /die commands, I learn and willing to work an entire life in a role if needed.
Pitch me the reason for joining your server
Still need people willing to take goods from point A to point B to finalize trade
I tried to put it in spoiler lol
Google Docs: Paste entire list into Column A, sort alphabetically.
Copy list to B, then on Column B go to Data/Remove Duplicates
Set up on Column C1 the formula =Countif(A:A,B1)
Drag down C1 to copy to length of column B
