Yeah you guys set up pretty nice. Wish I could have have screen grabbed the pen that got built after you guys. I think it was the nicest I've ever seen

I was Merveille Cloud. I raised a lot of kids and at forty when I was finally free to fully work again and get corn planted I lost connection and couldn't reconnect.

Its been a rough connection day for me.

Got to experience it for a life, and man what a life. When I was born there were like 30 people in that town. It was a pretty small town but set up was nice. Sheep pens east and south with bakery in center.  Server 2 came back halfway through my life and we almost lost it all, but kept it going.

Hey maybe your student will teach me one day.

I can already make the newcomen pump and smith everything needed, but the actual want for learing the diesel engine just isnt there for me yet. I know it's an important development and I can always one tech it and go on greep's and build one but I'd rather learn by happy accident somehow. Like not even really trying to in the first place but still learning it.

I tried to connect last night, and got a server down for maintenance error, so I did what I did last time that happened, and specified server one. I was born into a city that was very glad to have a girl, because there weren't many people.  A couple  of them said they had problems connecting, too, and at least one said she also had to connect manually.

Time passed, I grew up, and then suddenly every one of our few fertile females was spitting out babies as fast as they possibly could.  Huge population boom, babies everywhere.  You couldn't take three steps without one falling out of you.  That went on until I died, I think.  The lineage died out three generations later, l'm guessing due to overpopulation.

It was nuts.

So that server actually did have that many people on? 130 or 140 was the highest I saw from the list. I missed it by minutes probably. When I logged on I was being thrown as twins to separate twin eves. Most born to eve spawns in a row I've ever got and they all abandoned me or told me tough luck (dont blame them). Finally got one as eve but everyone died out as soon as the berry patch was just getting going. Shoutout to my son kaya though if your here.

Oh goodstuff! Can't wait to get home and test how it is.

Edit* Looks like I just missed it. Did anyone notice anything different with the spawning and how it might have went?

Hmmm... i wonder if this could be next update. All on one server

*Edit woah 114 on right now.

RIP server one with 3 people on

#732 Re: Main Forum » Why was I never in San-Cal » 2019-01-22 23:29:39

I only spawned into this town once before I ever saw it mentioned. There was the start to the bell and the mosquitos were trapped. There was gold and lasso spread pretty far from the bell base and i brought them back but started having kids. I took my kids to the sign and said welcome to sancalvidor. That bell got finished after my first kid by someone else thankfully.

While that town was nice I still like the city that had a a hospital named hspivtl with a blue corner the most. Anyone know the name of that one? It had a far south road that was trying to connect to a another bell town called tak.

If any of you spawn into a village with a snowman jail in the north of it with one full grave and 2 skeletons it was me sacrificing myself to stop a child snow ball greifer.

I lived a pretty full life of getting wheat, composting and getting the town another horse. I burried my mom too and that grave is actually my mom.

But at like 40 some kid kept going to the snow pile by mom and pelting me and others. Got a secret snow block set up and trapped us both in for the greater good of everyone.

What if I do the eyebrow dance as a baby? I'm not trying to show I'm some elitist, it's just funny as hell and a good way to pass the time as a toddler.

#735 Re: Main Forum » Hoe Family Showdown » 2019-01-21 23:45:34

It happens. When I encounter someone suspected of griefing I will never directly confront them but I'll study them the furthest i can in awbz and wait. They usually have a cooldown spot with a pie (usually behind a tree). I'll wait for them to move toward town with the knife or bow then go take their pie. When they run back and come off cooldown they frantically starve searching for that pie and I get to watch from afar.

#736 Re: Main Forum » Hoe Family Showdown » 2019-01-21 23:24:26

Haha dirty quads will always draw some heat for sure, but some players just like to loiter in town and start some ruckus and will use any excuse. Im always running around too much and sometimes run back into town and everyone has killed eachother. Only constantly gathering stuff manages to spare you sometimes.

distributing packs, aprons and one piece of clothing for each baby improves the town, instead of dumping everything on the dumbest baby, who might be griefer, killer, lazy ass or just a noob who will die behind a tree is same as griefing
it's a good indicator when people make their own clothes, its confusing seeing a noob in full gear and cant perform a simple task
also this spoiled noobs tend to not understand the stress others feel to survive
i don't like the other side of spectrum either, to give away everything you got, people who clothe others are generally not the ones who made that clothing

I was guilty of doing that at first. I would throw all my clothes on the nearest baby at age 59. Now I try to notice who the younger kids actually working are at like age 55 and go give them what I got.

If grim gives you his fruitboots you have done well.

Hey, I am a high tech cavemen with AK-47! Really though we are primitive yet advanced as a human race.

We are REBUILDING the civilisation, which means something like an apocalypse occured (lore is not clear yet, if there is even one) and we are rebuilding from scratch, so historic time periods are irrelevant, we dont even know if they are humans (think about it eve spawning from nowhere and popping babies out of thin air)

We could have a whole year of updates with prehistoric or medieval stuff but that would become very uninteresting and redundant

Agreed

I've kinda always saw us as people versions of amoebas or like some kind of group cell creature with individually short lifespans that can regenerate, but not very well sometimes...

I personally think we ARE rebuilding from a way older civilization in the real world but it isn't accepted by main stream archaeology yet but things like Gunung Padang and Göbekli Tepe are starting to sway the timeline. Whoever built great pyramid or the Baalbek foundations would be like the vets of this game. Then something like an apocalypse happened while simultaneously us steam players on release were coming in and somehow only massive builds survived.

My parents live out in the boonies, and I was checking out where they live on google earth last night for the hell of it. I was checking out the little airport they are rebuilding and man this pic reminds me so much of this game haha. Maybe Im playing it too much..

Yeah whenever born into a jungle village i immediately put things on all the tiles and tell people to keep them there. Then I build the mosquito wall.

Yesterday in the spoon village I put all the bones in the only jungle spot next to the village. I placed them along the rim of the biome and they worked great as a barrier. When people came across it they turned around because they knew nothing good would come of heading into a jungle filled with bones.

I also name every firstborn son Rune so yesterday (and like a day before with previous spoons?) my son had my favorite name I've ever so far in this game.

Rune Spoon

Grim: Good post! I think the real key is scouting to find the direction with the highest concentration of activity signs, and then heading that way.

I'm not sure it matters whether you go orthogonally or diagonally. The Eve spiral is, well, a spiral, and in most cases it'll be very close to a circle. You could have spawned anywhere on that circle, and so the other camps could be in any direction.

I keep meaning to test and see whether diagonal travel has a speed advantage. I suspect that it does - I suspect that your movement rate is a fixed X moves per second, where one move can be either orthogonal or diagonal, which means that moving diagonally will actually let you move a larger distance in a given amount of time. In which case you're absolutely right, moving diagonally would be the right thing to do when searching.

Thank ya, and my passion for diagonal travel is probably just based on my trials and what works best for me, but originally I figured that if your going diagonal on a spiral you have a better shot at hitting the points first try than going the cardinal directions but it really is a craps shoot. The larger distance over time thing sounds pretty plausible. I have found that just sighting things while traveling diagonally is easier to me though be it ruins or people running about.

My biggest question is... how do you estimate the number of tiles travelled?  Especially once you start going around the inevitable jungle?

Very interesting... thanks!

Ok so after testing on greep's server it averaged to about every minute traveled on foot through wilderness being about 180 tiles so...

Maybe four in a half to five minutes of running to get 800? Sounds about right but I just guesstimate when i do this a lot haha.

Yeah when I'm young and finding a different family it usually only takes two to four minutes because the spawns are pretty close. So that sounds pretty accurate.. but made me think about it, and need to update the post a tad bit.
