I'm kind of in a similar situation as you.  Please don't feel alone!!

Slowly gaining a foothold on this new mountainous landscape.

I find myself gravitating to familiar things like pie making and orchard tending... still scared of ruining something for someone and then getting killed with a bow or knife by the wordless elite.

To be honest, I'm still scared to smith!  Silly!  I should just try.  It's not like the people I've played with 20 mins ago will have to endure my stupidity in my next incarnation.

What's the next topic, Founder?

#78 Re: Main Forum » Drawing Contest » 2018-06-12 23:30:23

I love seeing all the drawings!

(Sorry for the radio silence, I was on vacation roasting marshmallows and toasting bratwurst... it was great!)

I love your hats!

#79 Re: Main Forum » More cooking! » 2018-06-07 22:03:38

I realize this is a tiny deviation from your well organized topic (thanks for the links!!), but I'm afraid I will forget it...

To match the concern of minmaxing eating (or accidentally starving), the idea of baby food - please consider this random thought:

I think an easy implementation of baby/elder food would be to have the bowl of mashed carrots and berries be a four use thing (like the bowl of dough), if used on a person.

Great job someone(s)!  (Sorry I don't recall who.)

#81 Re: Main Forum » Should I get this game? » 2018-06-01 16:13:57

I feel that each person is limited in their perspective by their personal experience.  I find this to be a fascinating and mostly enjoyable experience.

However, if you get the game...  please do plan on taking breaks.  The more serious players at times seem to show signs of fatigue, which gets vented in very salty rants here.

I am a very stubborn person and get addicted to things like this fast.  At some point banging your head against the wall causes brain damage... lol.  If you do not cope well with moral gray areas, and value an unchanging game design structure, this game may not be for you in the long run.

I hope that helps you out with your decision.  At this point, it's more of an evolving experience than a 'wham blam finished game' kinda thing.

Kinda refreshing in an odd way.

I submitted work, but I couldn't get the background to be anything other than white.

:-/

Hope to see more art from the community soon!

This is fun!

Thanks for doing this.

#83 Re: Main Forum » THE EVES! THE EEEVEEEEEEEEES!!!!!! » 2018-05-25 17:00:35

Sorry to hear that!

Aurora, what hours were/are you playing?  What server were you on?

I don't know if this helps, but maybe there was a server boom?  I am EST and play kinda at night 6-9 EST - there was a nice variety of spawns.

(I still have no idea how to check what server I'm playing on....)

#84 Re: Main Forum » Mushroom shaman well depth » 2018-05-25 16:51:15

Ah, you're probably right Yahg.

...but then again, I've recently spawned into some pretty awesome coops.  So who knows?

I can totally see someone accidentally becoming a shaman for several lives.  I'm very against that.

But this is one of the most complicated games anyone has ever attempted to design.

I get the feeling that balance will ultimately be impossible, or at least that is a kind of latent fear of mine, as more and more objects are added.

I don't see this as a problem, many paths to victory, keep the players on their toes etc.

...

I like the idea of "Many paths to victory."  I feel that people are struggling against nihilism at times here...

Example: Alternate recipes for rope and fire.

Argument for keeping one recipe:  I've memorized both, maybe that was the intention.  One way to make a fire.  Simple might be better.  Easier to teach new players as well.

Argument for allowing alternate recipes:  Gives old players a challenge and ameliorates the damage a new person may cause.  Old players can just wander off and get the other ingredients in peace and quiet.

sorry to hear that Sammy died on you.  very sad!

#87 Re: Main Forum » Mushroom shaman well depth » 2018-05-25 16:10:12

This could add a few roles to society -

a shaman

a mushroom farmer

if antidotes are a thing, an antidote farmer

#88 Re: Main Forum » Mushroom shaman well depth » 2018-05-25 15:14:09

Oh wow!

That's a  fascinating functionality ...

I kinda like it... but I really feel like there should be an antidote?  Aw, now I'm waffling.  Maybe if there wasn't a persistent multi life shaman trip thing, I'd be okay with no antidote.

#90 Re: Main Forum » The Eve to Genghis Khan Challange » 2018-05-25 15:08:47

Sounds awesome!!

We would need strategic fence kits somehow - for the horses.   Can those be carried or hauled?

I've never ridden a horse before, I'm too scared I'll die of disconnection.  (My internet is patchy).  Can we put babies in horse carts yet?

Organize the town as best you can.

Gather up all the plates and take them to the oven and forge,

Create a graveyard with milkweed or roses (soon) in front of the grave and different stones (flat ones work great but you can use any kind you or your loved one may have liked) and blocks behind where you can arrange your families resting place and bring kids to tell them stories about your siblings and elders.

Spread food out around the town far away from the carrot farm or kitchen where people who are working can have a nice meal so they don't have to run back home.

Make a milkweed farm near the prairie and leave an extra bone needle or two there so people can easily make their own backpacks or clothes.

Line roads with bushes, flowers (milkweed or (roses)) and wells. Make your home, not just efficient, but beautiful.

Compliment people on their clothing.

Thank them for working on the carrot farm while you were out getting rabbits.

Thank them for getting rabbits while you were working on the carrot farm.

That guy making the tools? Thank him too!

Fresh forest cut down? Make clear paths to the ponds and leave the area on the farm side clear so people can put down a basket there. You can use the butt logs as a main path and someone may turn it into a road if they come through with a froe, mallet, stake and stone.

If you see a path of butt logs going through a freshly chopped down forest, bring a froe, mallet, stake and round stone out to them and turn them into a path. IF it's a path near ponds, add some berry bushes near the ponds and leave a bowl nearby for water, if the path isn't near water, space some wells or milkweed out along it, so it looks nice.

Gather up extra clay and make bowls from it and put them near ponds outside of town, in case someone wants to start a little farm there.

Young woman bored of big city life? Make up a story and run away, then when your kids are born, tell them your story and ask for them to help you in your new life.

Young male bored of big city life? Lose iron around? Make an extra shovel, ax, froe, wedge and mallet and take them out to an area with lots of big stones and make a little castle just outside of town to make people wonder who you were.

Found a small castle outside of town, half finished? Complete it and decorate it with a sign with a lewd slogan.

Found an odd castle outside of town with a lewd slogan on a sign? Decorate around it with flowers like milkweed and roses. Clear a backyard behind it and decorate with a shrine.

Make a tiny sheep pen and instead of a sheep, lure a bear into it and close it off.

Start a town zoo.

Become a barker at the town zoo, and shout "Come one, come all. See the amazing animals at The Town Zoo!" and give free pies to adults and berries to the children that come to see the attractions.

See someone roleplaying as a hooker? Roleplay as her pimp and let her know you took care of the last John that tried to stiff her out of a tip.

Ask people if they'd like a Candied Yam, Fireball, a Leek, or a candle flame and if they say sure, proceed to give them a carrot, berry, wild onion or cactus fruit. If they say you lied, tell them your client says otherwise and explain to them how you procured such an item. Be creative.

Give someone a rock.

No really, just run up to them and say, "Here you go." and drop a rock at their feet. Then run away saying "Thanks again." Just out of the blue.

Run up to someone working alone and give them a compliment.

If you only have time to do it once per child, take your kid out to one person working and tell them how good of a job that person is doing, then continue touring around with them, while within screen of other people working, and let the child know how well each person is working at whatever it is you see them doing at the time.

Tell people about things you saw in the sky.

Take your kid to an abandoned bear cave and tell them it's your home.

Open and close chests and doors to slowed down renditions of your favorite tunes.

Compose a piece of music using the item sound effects in the game and set up your row of instruments near, but out of the way, of the largest group of people. Combine sounds that don't often go together, like pulling steel from crucibles and sheering sheep.

If you see someone running to food and die of starvation, place a carrot near their grave when you pour their remains from the basket, outside of town. Apologize to them, and yourself, silently, that you didn't leave more food out around town.

Give someone a basket of dead lambs and tell them there are no more unicorns in the forest.

Ride through town on a horse saying "The British are coming!" Then circle around outside of town, change your clothes, ride in, and ask if anyone saw a man on a horse.

Thank each elderly person you see, personally, for the work they did for the town, before you arrived.

Morti you're amazing.  smile

Maybe there can be more sizes of items, for containers.
Like 1,2,4, 8 and 16. A pile of dirt, that fills a backpack or basket, could be a 16, but a carrot seed could be a 1 and 16 of them could fit in a basket? Something like that.

A cart could hold 12 and items could be 12, 6, 4, 3, 2 or 1 in size. 12 could be a full cart sized object.

Something like that, for containers, would also be nice.

That would be nice!

So much less clutter!

(although, during the apocalypse times I was 100% sure that decay was a good idea before implementation --- so this might cause a lot of bugs initially?  I would still love to see this sooo much!)

I completely agree that storage needs to be reworked. What kind of janky box only stores FIVE carrots?

yes.  I totally agree with this!

although for some reason the entity interaction makes sense?  I don't know how to explain why it makes sense to me...

It's awesome to go back into the wilderness from a town.  I'm glad to hear you could save the lineage Aname.  Hope the next batch of players in your family have good survival instincts.

I love bro adventures Feldspar!  Growing to be an old man has a weird zen feeling to it, at least for me.  I have only caught a horse once.  I was afraid to ride it... so I just left it in the village for someone else.  Having pro children as an Eve is so cool!

Aw man Sibiohan, that sounds like a lot of fun, but kinda stressful too.  If my mom was the crazy carrot guard I'd run?  Or become an irreplaceable sycophant... Too bad you couldn't become Ghengis Khan!  That would've been something!

I'm glad you could find an Eve, JS.  That's really rare!  I've never run into an Eve.  I've run into random unnamed people, which is startling...  Or second cousins twice removed who are hopelessly lost!

I tried to make friends with all my relatives last night.  There was a looot of them though.  I was born into a good community.

(Died of disconnect at 29.)

I'm curious, what has been your best play-through yet?

I had a wonderful time setting up an orchard with my mom last night.  I did the watering + planting, and put out food for her in a basket.  She ran back in forth with a basket to get soil.  We had around 15 plants when we were done.  It was fantastic.  All the family members were amazing.  All cooperating.  All positive.

You're doing a very good job

1.) staying consistently on top of updates
2.) actively being a part of the community you started
3.) helping us stay aware of the current limitations
4.) not giving up on us (as the consumer base) or the project.

If I were a game developer with a project of this scope, I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago.

Stay strong!  We can tell you care.

We are just excited for new stuff, that's all.  :-)

Sorry if I overwhelmed you at all.
