a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building
You are not logged in.
People who do not communicate at all certain tick a box with me.
People who don't know how to create good buildings that want to make them 10x10 or something absurd like that.
It really grinds my gears when I have to make sure the fire won't go out, make sure we got water, keep compost going, creating boxes and organise, all on my own because no one is doing anything.
This quote: "We're a civilized people who drink our wine proper-like." isn't even 24 hours old.
Or is it just your perception of time itself... lagging... as it were.
Spoonwood, is it possible that you operate under a different timeline where everything is horribly laggy and you're just ridiculously behind?
That's my canon.
You'll be able to store four bowls worth of resources in one bottle which is one more than things that go into a basket. It's very sensible to make the bottle a large item.
Necro-ing topics that are no longer relevant to the current state of the game on issues that have long been resolved, is annoying. But Auto-lock is bad.
Here goes for humour, art, screenshots and stories, mods, mod-making etc. that would suffer with this since these remain relevant regardless of date.
Don't axe everything because of a bad apple.
Believe me, if axing Spoonwood and his ilk was a power I had in my grasp it would have been done so already when he first started the pattern of necroing done subjects.
We can't stop them, but this forum needs at least one active moderator to close all of these irrelevant threads that they keep bringing to the front page.
Also, look at the news forum. It's out of order because people like Spoonwood can't resist the urge.

Likehood can be seen as percieved likehood or mathematical likehood. For you to call it mathematically unlikely we would need an statistical analysis and well defined variables like relevancy and activity which is not the case. If you are talking about percieved likehood (or unlikehood), then we have a totally subjective matter. For example I find it very likely for a thread over a year ago to be relevant because several unanswered problems are recurrent and are still present today. So, I would say your assertion is subjective at best.
voy178 wrote:It creates confusion when old threads are necroed. If someone wants to touch on something mentioned in the threads they ought to create a new thread and link the old post.
It may confuse you, but not everyone. Necroing a thread instead of starting a new topic is totally fine imo.
voy178 wrote:Therefore, I suggest an automatic lock on threads that have been inactive for six months or longer.
Yeah but why six months? Why not a week? Why not one month?
I see you are just trying to make yourself an easy path to post with minimum effort. Since the game is suposedly being updated once a week I could easily argue all the same you do, that is: everything one week old is irrelevant because there was an update, ergo, we should lock all threads once a week. Does that make any sense to you? Not at all.I get it, many of you get confused because a topic pops and you expect it to be brand new. Just look at the date and carry on, it is really not *that* hard to read something completely before you post your own opinion.
I'm trying to propose a cleaner forum experience. Seeing how you're not interested in contributing ideas for the issue of necroing threads that clearly have NOTHING to do with the current gaming mechanics I don't see why you would even respond to this thread.
Six months is an arbitrary time limit that gives plenty of time to pass before a thread that hasn't received any posts in a long time has lost relevance. We are clearly done with the topic, if we weren't it would have received some activity anywhere in those six months.
If linking threads is too exhausting for you then you could always not link them and just create a thread of the issue you'd like to discuss. There are like 10 milkweed threads going around anyways so I don't see how that would make any difference.
voy178 wrote:Threads that haven't received any activity for over six months are unlikely to be relevant to the game today.
And on what basis do you say that? Have you been rereading old threads and finding them irrelevant to today's game? Because I've been rereading threads and have found plenty still relevant to today's game:
Property fence gates were once more difficult to make, making the concerns that this raises even more relevant: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6022
There's a comment here about how to do an oil rig: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … 764#p65764
Did you know that you can make an axe in one fire? Heck you can make many steel tools in one fire potentially: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=4695
Here's a thread on making an engine: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=4802
There's also old threads on making radios.
Also, how should the game work? The game has gone through some changes. There's plenty that can more easily get thought about with older threads still having the ability to get discussed.
And people can check dates. I don't see how it's that difficult.
- If people want to look on those threads, they can look them up in the archive.
- If you feel like the player base that actually go into the forums will massively miss out on things in their lives if these threads are overlooked you may absolutely put them in your signature. BUT the one place we don't need them to be is on the first page where new content and current topics are to be discussed.
- If you feel like something needs to be said (but looking at what you write when you necro it usually isn't) you can absolutely create a new thread and link the post.
Telling people to look at the date on every post they read is both unrealistic and a pretty ineffective suggestion. People will not and then people will be spreading old news when they come across the posts that you necro.
How do property fences work? They are just flimsy sticks stuck in the ground but they are stronger than a stone wall. It makes no sense.
It's stronger than a stone wall because people just can't be nice and play along.
Threads that haven't received any activity for over six months are unlikely to be relevant to the game today.
It creates confusion when old threads are necroed. If someone wants to touch on something mentioned in the threads they ought to create a new thread and link the old post.
Therefore, I suggest an automatic lock on threads that have been inactive for six months or longer.
Also, note that the new dyed wool clothing does not decompose like red and blue versions which is nice and clearly an oversight. Let's take advantage of that.
+1 for spoiling food. Get rid of all excess resources that just end up cluttering the map anyways.
Another idea which has been brought up before: make stuff indoor decay at a decreased rate. An incentive for keeping tool shacks, storage facilities, etc.
Content-wise it was an improvement and we got numerous "quality of life" fixes which is nice. Wish he didn't go so far to limit what we can do though, race restriction just doesn't make it more fun in any way since we can't trade. We just can't. There are never enough people to support enough villages and we all congregate anyways once we find each other.
Back when Pein had bad idea's
Why are you like this? Can you not see that you're hurting the people around you? Resist necromancy.

Yes, some do. Bees make honey for other bees, not for the sake of humans.
And plants make fruit to produce more plants, not for the sake of humans. What's their point?
And milk used to be grass... but it's missing the point entirely:
One is part of the animal kingdom and one is part of the plant kingdom. Vegans do not consume animal products.
Wouldn't mind "Paving" a settlement with rudimentary roads instead of laying high-speed roads in the middle of a town. Using a shovel on a staked ground (with minimal wear on the shovel) could then create a natural-looking packed earth situation that both works as a path and border around farms. Would look much better than board floors and pine floors which look too jarring.
Could also be used to make paths to other villages ofc and later be upgraded to roads for time-saving.
Maybe picking domesticated milkweed could give a single thread instead of a milkweed stalk due to it being more fruitful? An easy solution to a tedious problem. Still requires farming, but with a greater reward.
Farming milkweed is not fun as is today. We're not gonna miss out on having to tile and water two more rows for a whole rope.
I wish there was another source of rope. A more stable source.
I support that dogs should keep wild animals away.
I like tool slots. OFC you shouldn't be able to do all the things in the game. Some tool slots might be nonsensical and could use tweaking, but it's still important to note that this is a cooperative game, not a single-player game.
He made a new tier of clothing that's intentionally worse than fur, dyes, paint, and who can claim that cars, morse code telegraphs, cameras and other novelty things are necessary for survival? That's such a hypocrite statement.
snip
First one with the hatchets and axes bewilders me too, but the second with pencil actually makes sense in some ways. It represents the written language. Are you a smarty write-y or not?
I rarely use up all my slots in a-life, unless I'm carrying a village on my back making everything. New players do not use up their slots either. When you claim people aren't doing anything, it might just be because they just can't or don't realise how important it is to be doing right now. There are a lot of new players in this game.
Or a container that can just hold plates, bowls, bottles and glasses, things that normally go into them, as well as certain food items that you don't put in a container. Then it would be a proper table and you wouldn't have to put food on the floor.
Well the last time I posted was four months ago. That would be around when I stopped playing. What are rifts?
They're not a thing anymore. Don't worry about it.
Better than stagnation at least.
You want us to culturally appropriate a sacred ceremony of some American Indian cultures and put it in this game? Do you not see how that would be problematic?
