a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I like this idea as it could even be solved quire easily both server and client side. Sending way bigger, but "static" (the same size & location) part of map should not be a problem resource wise as long as guard towers were expensive. It would also not matter latency-wise for bigger chunks of data as you're already immobile. Even if the vision stayed the same or just slightly bigger but if you could slide the screen fast - that would solve the "to small to see" element as well (and the "stretching"/"resizing" paranoia Jason has).
Few suggestions of first names.
For males:
DickSon
For females:
CHARLOTTEROSE
Holly (only in Crapp or Craps families)
I think you'd do better to view griefers in OHOL as people showing you exactly where the game is broken.
I love this comment. In IT world griefers are mostly called "Testers" and they're often paid for it ![]()
Developer: How can I make it?
Tester: How can I break it?
The problem with this is that it doesn't serve as a punishment to the griefer/toxic player, but rather serves as a burden to every other player.
The system should punish toxic players or serve as a major deterrent for their bad behaviour, not burden everyone else.
IRL, we don't say "Ok, we're letting the murderer live in your city... it's YOUR job to be extra vigilant and ensure they don't continue murdering people and/or murder you". That would only terrorize the regular citizens, and any logical person would think that's insane. That's effectively what happens in the game, currently.
I think you still don't get it. Curse is not meant to be a punishment. Its not meant to punish player directly. Jason does not want to punish anyone. Game should not pushing people on its own. Its players who should punish other players if we want "real" society forming.
Curse is a tool for players to recognize that someone might have been already punished and might deserve punishment again ONLY BECAUSE you can respawn which is not available IRL. Curse is tool that countermeasures the respawn mechanic, not a punishment for bad behaviour.
IRL we don't let "murderer live in the city". True. We should not let him live in game as well. Here we agree.
IRL it actually IS YOUR JOB to be extra vigilant and ensure they don't continue murdering people. Its balled law enforcement. Its called army. Its called Police.
So what we need in game is "Policemen" or "Army". Not "god striking lightning at killers". We need players who roleplay as guards. And curse is meant to help them do their job. Not to do their job for them.
Except OHOL is meant to be set up in the future and we're rebulding apocalypse. Apocalypse that we're meant to repeat (at the end of tech tree).
But i agree that the curse should have more consequences than just being recognised because of black speech and possible future marks, if it helps us recognise a bit easier truly toxic players, it still doesnt detter them very much from continuing their toxic behaviors, some persons truly have no mindset other than ruining other players game as much as possible. And I can't think of any other multiplayer based game that doesn't have some kind of reporting system. And I'm not talking about murderers, those are usually just wannabe griefers, always dealt with some varying succes.
Because... Curse is not supposed to deter anyone. Its supposed to be a tool for people to know who to watch out for and who to exclude from their society. Its up to YOU to banish this person from your society or just kill him.
Is it really so hard to take responsibility for that into your own hands? I understand that milenials prefer eferything to be done for them by others, but come on...
Curse is a tool for intel. Action stays in your own hands.
A skyscraper... or two. And a plane... or three.
Village idiot is a fun concept. Village of idiots is not. Just saying.
Just a thing to point out: curse havent settled in with people even now.
There are a lot of people who will keep cursed babies giving them benefit of the doubt, people who will heal cursed people after they get stabbed, people who think curse is unfair and cursed people should not be "discriminated". In short: there are a lot of idiots. They don't give a damn about the system, the tool handed to them by "god" himself and are willing to ignore it, thus killing their own civilization.
On the other hand there are some people who "collect" curses. They try to get cursed on purpose, because its fun to have black letters. The same problem we had with TimeOut on discord giving yellow text to people. "It makes me special, thus I want it!".
TL;DR;
A lot of people don't see curse as a bad thing.
I might only add destructive and disruptive behaviour despite few polite warnings followed by TimeOut as well as releasing confidential private information of other people which is actually even against the law.
And you're all able to zoom out. I'm trying my best to allow you to with every update ![]()
Jesus: "Hey, dad, remember that fishing circle I've created out of boredom 2000 years ago?"
God: "Yeah son. What about it?"
Jesus: "Looks like they're still active and recruited over third of earths population!"
I can relate so much now....
Zoomed out FOV mod updated ![]()

Updated to binary v137, data v135
If you consider each tile one meter square = about 3.3 feet, then you can only see 10 feet away.
The 1080p (2x) zoom mod brings this up to 20 feet which makes sense as 20/20 vision and should be the new default resolution.Personally I prefer the 1440p (3x) version, because the game is still clear on a crummy old 1366x768 laptop monitor,
and people can see farther than 20 feet even if it isn't perfect.
Actually, 1080p is x1.5, 1440p is x2 and 2160p (4k) is x3.
And its rectangular.
Wrong, check the v28/v29 forum post. It is end of the map edge
Welp, you got me. Totaly forgot about that one! Texture looks really similar though.
SCS is bad. SCS is end of free will. Its already implemented in many systems without our knowledge. Facebook uses it to solve reports and decide which posts to promote. League of Legends report system uses it to evaluate reports and serve punishments. Goodle uses it for spam filtering, monetization, add serving, etc.
Comparing karma to SCS is wrong. Every voice is worth the same for karma. SCS values your voice depending on how you are valued by others.
SCS combined with complicated telecomincational systems without clear understanding how they work (which is impossible for most of humanity) is basically revival of slavery.
As for griefing... I believe Jason, OHOL developer, stated himself that griefing and people being "dicks" is part of life. He is willing to give players tools to defend themselves, but he will not arbitrarily enforce rules. Dealing with those situations ourselves as players is part of the game.
My theory is that when you find the “edge” you can “touch” it by interacting with it, then it becomes... the slightly more yellow sponge. I wonder what the closest civ to the edge was.
It's not "end of the map" edge. Its "this part didn't load yet because your connection is to slow" edge.
Tarrpocalypse!
Yes. With zoomed out FOV mod you get it quite often (server does not provide enough data for very large screen). Also if you have connection problems or server is lagging you can see that sometimes while running or riding horse in a traight line and then changing direction by ~90 degrees.
Dear Santanists,
Our lord and savior, damned be his name, calls us to arms. He is deeply upset with Eve Tarr and all of her offspring as they have rejected him. Let his will come true though our actions. Lets rid this world of Tarrs!

The will of Santan is for Tarr's to die.
Would you allowe us to help you Jasons? If we had public space just like forum but with ability to rate stories we could "crowdsource" the process of picking most likely candidates in the future!
Has anyone looked at mapping with graphics already? I don't care about global coordinates, just want a separate window showing where I've been, one pixel per tile coloured by biome, a dot where I am, and maybe dots for permanent things like ponds, rabbit holes and iron veins. Thinking of throwing something together in unity, just wondering if anyone is already familiar with the map format in stdout.txt
Game is open source so you don't even need to fiddle with stdout.txt . Just modify the oryginal client code to include minimap in it.
