Thank you for bb bones not filling screens, very useful ! On another note, please assume silence is thanks, I for one won't spam ty for every change I like since it takes away from your time. I think same is true for many people. For this, in some of my lives bb graveyard was larger than every other tile combined.
It seems you've been reading so much lousy suggestions, people thinking you don't read or care, and not getting thanks you got annoyed along the way - so I thought I'd type a thank now. Won't spam'em, useless
@Spoonwood I see no value in your comment.
(TL;DR: my observations for changes lately) I agree changes in game should add to happy gaming experience for most people. If Jason is so tired he thinks players insult HIM not game policy, take two weeks vacation and be back refreshed ! Give keys (not programming, but upkeep) to someone if possible. Everyone needs vacation every now and then.
It may just be the loudest emailers/such are griefers, or the whole meaning of a change in some game mechanics escapes Jason since it's typed in "wrong" way in suggestions... Nah I give too much credit to griefers, most aren't smart enough. Griefing is just easier way to enjoy game since they think it's hard to learn/wrong/impossible to ask for teaching ! Ask, I'm happy to teach some little things I know. Usually 2-4 ppl at a time.
I've noticed major change: I think because of warswords+speech+heavy resource depletion due to towns being near eachother:
Much less care about kids/other people (in many ways). I've been killed 1yo, nobody nearby cared. It was rare earlier. People also don't build anything, unless born to bit more advanced town they don't even try to advance. They die, kill or grief. Just my experience, I used to live long, teach, improve town and people.
Now when doing that I get (an example) brother or someone stating "i/will/kill/you" or such useless. Should do it, not talk about it (like this brother of mine told, I picked up my knife said "I've no time for you, big brother, come at me with your knife drawn when you want to die" - saw him with same knife still in his backpack for 20 years but he didn't pester me ever again. One of the few lives I got older than 3yo since one doesn't get fed. Another game we also had town protector, showed her to seedbank I had nearby (somebody picked all carrots, went to get some, also dryplanted three sis).
What's odd, lots of newbies now (or griefers)-but when I teach they see it, hang nearby, I go say come closer, learn, I'll ask you next what you want to learn.
Why is it so hard for people to ask for help in this game ? Probably get killed in another games for that. But odd, I see more newbies now than few weeks ago.
Limited lives per hour...
First: one of my lifes and why important to me. Then "suggestion"-part.
--
IDK. One of best lives for me was I caught would-be-runner girl, tried to run twice but I succeeded in saying we have everything and not to worry I'll make sure she'll be ok. Got a smile at that point and she decided to stay.
Turned out she didn't know basics of game, so had always played in ready-made towns. I had other kids, taught her (and some others who seemed to hang around-said it's ok nobody will blame for getting basket of pies when learning-so they followed bit more closely) how to farm, made cart, always return tools etc... She was glad already in early 20's all the time, and in the end and said being sorry for being busy now with her own kids, but I was so proud when she asked kids if they knew how to compost or such, being willing to help. Also asked if I'd be available (with my meagre knowledge) about other stuff if kids want, ofc I was !
Later a son of mine asked where to bury me for being cool, it was about time and I taught him with words how to bury, said please bury someone else, I want to go out as I came in. Dropping last clothes to my daughter's kid - saying time to adventure, won't be back unless find iron vein. Sharp stone, made basket, lived last five mins in the wild.
So every life has different value, no way I knew that would've been one of most interesting ones (I usually ask about teaching in nursery if town's not critical stage).
--SUGGESTION:
Jason, I'd suggest make the monthly-thing (show some stats and such) available, what I (player) have done etc and maybe suggested voluntary donation (based on something there) that doesn't give anything, up to dollar or two. Also this window could have OFFICIAL voting with only results visible for you, questions you want there, maybe what you think people would like the heading of game to be. Only make sure ppl realize cash is just suggestion, no obligation, same with your asking what people see interesting. And no mention/never will be shown anywhere if I paid or not. Never show/store game-life donations. Never show vote results.
See, you have best understanding how much time some seemingly-easy change would take and if it fits your plans etc... And for good's sake take a month's vacation dude !

Lastly: a thing for weekly item learned was mentioned, why not ? So some who learned it can craft it later. Nothing special, maybe crafting would result in a bit different cloak or hat with same stats, maybe other stuff. I've played a game from 2000's last year that had this kind of thing-though it was microtransaction/item. I suggest it'd be free.
Learn craft once (during this-item-weekend), if you make it once after that every cloak you make will have a stripe. Not possible to be able to gain ability to craft later. Needs: different sprite, interactions would be same and each item should look mostly similar and have only bit different visual. Rope still shows "rope" and is used as such, but half of it a bit different color. Might even give rise to trade.

I'll give it a shot ingame
Trying to mouseover ppl running around is tough.
How would I know if person already have ability to use door ? Let's say it takes 15 secs to negotiate this, 15 secs to run to door. Four doors would be 60 s/runner, about 45 s/other people, plus if every door is 30 secs away 90 secs for all of two people to get permissions.
So players would lose seven years of their life for two people to get door permits.
Edit: four doors is minimum here, also supposing the person has long enough speech-bubble and instant-typing.
Oh, stylin* left after my post. Anyhow, would someone help me how to get to discord please ?
If you know how to (not application but in chrome) to get back to discord, I'd appreciate, please.
On the topic (TL; DR):
Good way is trying to help people.
IK nobody will answer this since it'll be instant-trouble in discord. And I'll get more bans easily in the future, but ppl know I am not a griefer, help as far as I can etc... (s)he had a bad day, but what made me post this was (s)he did not help me how to get back to channels. Not even #ask-for-help channel, when I asked in #the-street.
(search "---nohelp" for non-help I asked each line separated by few minutes)
---
Banned for asking for help-asking ppl chat moved to #ask-for-help channel twice since it was spamming #general.
I asked several times for'em to go to #ask-for-help (provided clickable link too) and offered to help'em, since they were spamming channel #general.
So, I got in trouble.
This is for couple of minutes before I was thrown away from the #general, so missing something like 15 mins of them spamming the channel... I thought I'd get banned by asking styling* to move their spam to #ask-for-help.
Some (few to be honest, I think only 5?) people tried to start conversation but were out since no way to talk through the spam (I think they grief, having maybe one game account not two but not sure, claimed they had two game accounts though but somehow curses went to both. Also I said if that was the case try #bug--whatever channel, still have not been able to go to discord, still banned).
I always-and even this time-offered to help in #ask-for-help, but instead I get banned, nice job.
Asking @stylingirl ->to whom can I complain about your spam she insta-bans me. For how long ? IDK. She informs me there is a way to go back to application (which I do not use, I use chrome only). Next help I get in... NOT in more than 30 minutes so far.
IDK if people wanting help got it, I know a bit about steam could've helped'em.
Below some conversation-spam, followed by ask-for-help in #the-street

Hmm, got banned idk why, trying to help.
Is this normal ? Usually mods are rather ok.
Not a warning even.
StylingirlToday at 00:27
you dont get to keep being rude to people and telling them they need to stop spamming and move chats, esp when a mod tells you that they arent breaking any rules
SukatonToday at 00:28
I told you I couldn't follow the conversation for all the spam going on. Or did it belong to #general instead of #ask-for-help ?
StylingirlToday at 00:28
there wasnt a convo going on
SukatonToday at 00:29
Of course not, since you were hoarding the whole area as I stated. Check up, I cannot link since you banned me (for how long may I ask ?)
@Stylingirl
I see 2/5 mods went away since didn't want to touch the topic.
StylingirlToday at 00:31
phor barely even visits let alone mods and its like 1am for chard
SukatonToday at 00:32
So how long did you ban me for asking help-askers to use #ask-for-help ? Or is that confidential.
StylingirlToday at 00:33
also if u read the timeout channel youd know that you arent banned, nothing consequential comes from getting a timeout, and you need to take the timeout off of yourself
SukatonToday at 00:33
I've no previous offenses, have always helped everyone in ask-for-help and such for as much as I can, so I was flabbergasted to get a ban w/o warning.
OK ty, learned a thing about discord. You cannot expect everyone to know every program you use.
How do I leave&come back to server ?
(sorry I'm banned from ask-for-help channel). I use chrome, not a special program that lists servers (I think that's a program)
@Stylingirl
It only gives application invite, and I won't run that. I only run in chrome...
SukatonToday at 00:55
So my ban stands :frowning:

Gj SomeDude.
Other: seconded that make milkweed like jackpot(as ponds), now it's again very rare so using so much water to them, when ppl come from hiatus, is a real trouble with current semi-early water shortage.
Also, is this forum non-modifiable, I'd like +1/-1 for each post to be available, I am lengthening this chat too much (again). I don't use forum image nor msg after my txt for a reason.
80 tiles is a walk I usually take early, then 2-3 times I walk about 200 to search for something (adventure) per life. But yup, I think I am one of the few ppl that continuously drop branches from trees while going so ppl would know there's town "near-ish". If male I go further. Usually I make cart, leave with empty, bring back all baskets full, go out again unless something in town needs to be done.
IDK which to do with flat stones and stones-I usually stack two away from town and one towards. It's not like there's a rulebook or agreed-upon thing. Not going to make stuff like five paper saying town left or such.
I'd still like a straight shaft with a plank to put a post which I could point to 8 directions, adding paper saying stuff. Ofc can be cut down with axe.
Main problem now is not many will know what's where (paper gets lost, as does oral info). Even when I try to tell stuff in nursery it gets lost very fast/just none of those three kids care about that stuff. Usually I spend 10 years just to check what's nearby.
Don't feed the baby too much sugar/french fries so no bump
Those kind of ideas make just someone from your mexican heritage come to chinese town, grab a girl and voila' slave trade. Human standard result ("human condition"), but not ideal for game.
My idea about forced trade, when installing next item:
-two items, combining makes you, say, watch
-make it like mining iron/oil, except now that we have grid (with springs), installing one resource in Desert tile, say every 80th spring location that isn't viable for spring will spawn one of these two rare ores (swiss xtal, swiss casing)
-combining these two items with newcomen drill would craft watch
-No major coding
-People will be able to trade with no mass transit available now
-See what happens with non-essential stuff that's rare (crowns are kind of like this item though)
Edit: (remember always, since there's little that can be done about adding variables to map tiles without major overhaul in code and limited coding time, changes should be easy to install)
(war: just make ten fault-lines same color, next ten other etc, so different fault-lines can be used by anyone but "belong to nation BLUE" - craftable warflag that detoriates in 50 years, so ppl can prepare for war, and everyone who partakes/is within range of warflag score of die/kill/destroyed-wall/whatever shown at end of week - and your(player) new spawnpoints for next week will ALL be that next color. Anyone who wants to do something can define it beginning of week and say he "won" at end of week. Maybe make an hour of first login that week decide your color so friends can play same color)
No limitations, /die ok etc etc... Just no bones, they are 10x other lived area (!)
Yeah, this sounds awesome:

Funny "facts" after apocalypse:
Bones were bit crazy-more than usual- after apocalypse, I mean I was basically getting adobe then clay, running through bonepiles. Literally, 100 tiles right was closest clay deposit, so when I dropped by town it grew -parts of it- to about:
-20 x 15 kids /die bones = 300 /die kids ? Maybe ? (bigserver, usually 100 ppl only) So bonepile > settlement, by, ten times ? Do I exaggerate-not much I think and hope, next time screenshotting. About 10 living there, three hundred bones. /die areaban ? Must remember wrong.
-6 x 3 berries
-4 x 2 carrots and wheat = 26 farming tiles (1/10th+ of bones, growing too fast for water limits)
-6 x 6 pen and 3 x 3 pen property and clay later (1/5th of bones)
-utilities: kitchen, forge etc in later clay runs
I would LOVE to build a giant bonepile, lately I've seen one person's lifetime mainly cartfuls of kid bones away, hf (have fun) !
ps. ty my kid Maria, braving through Jungle to help get more clay with me, I also saved u from yellow fever w/ bananer np, looked so sad said "sorry"-why? It happens... She thought she'd die I guess. Fun liff'
Fast way to get towns to connect (trade war maybe, and other things) is a paper to be able to be added to straight shaft+plank (or whatever). This could point in eight directions, be basically "paper"(having short text) and could be cut to kindling with an axe. Computer code is there for paper, why not make copy of that, add 8 directions and how to make it ? Even newbies would understand direction and distance !
So I'd put one saying: 8 screens to next sign and fence
Next tile to it: after four signs NNNNW is divatown (so that's I think four times eight screens up, one time eight screen left).
So, when I find early hot spring/oil/whatever I could leave town other than a paper/verbal saying where it is. Grievers could grieve etc np... BUT I could use that sign, hopefully mouseover while walking past that sign - I don't stop to read scraps of paper for the one hour life !!!
Let grievers grieve, leave mis-posts to robber caves. Writing is such a great tool in Human Toolbox I'd like to see it used.
Current signposts are elite stuff, there is no denying it.
I was in a town with veteran or two just now, so stone road south (there was directly spring) and one east.
West we had one hot water spring, and why veteran players were there ? Because three newcomen sitting there (we did have iron etc for those and more).
I suggest when making changes (large like this) let players first get hands-on how to deal with it. Make another kind of change next week, move fixing this trouble to next week (if then there is trouble or players have adjusted) ! This isn't end of the world-kind of bug now, we can live with this and no quick-fixes needed.
Main thing to remember in players suggested changes above is the one hour limit. Thus by "attrition" by pein it'd be ok, but if I have to negotiate WHAT to donate it's a big no-no, time away from my gaming. Maybe add to that idea: the donation areas are expandable, so left is firewood (1 pts) next one is string (2 pts) next one is iron (3 pts) etc... Maybe let every village "leader" (say, most blesses or closest to started fam line) set prices every ten minutes or such (oh if griever gets this position-oh irl some do!).
For factions, i.e. your kin who "owns" town (IDK how? claim by setting up flag on spring-one more step...) the points would mean different thing than other families. So other families going to war would first gather points so less attrition or they could scout/gather resources etc without attrition having personal points. For kin it would mean (for example suggested small food-usage-reduction bonus when in the land).
These points ofc transferrable, hence marriage or such arrangements. No automatic transferrals unless player says so ("mary li inherits")
There wouldnt even be born as a new baby, they would take the place of the afk baby that is by the fire.
Sorry, I meant I carry a baby for a year or two showing stuff and then they decide to /die. Between these two years several similar things have happened, thus having 3-5 babies in coma (some near fire). If they die at three it still takes all time from one person since they'll be spawning again and again. Edit: or you are born as a baby that dies half a second later of hunger, nice to newbies ? I admit, giving baby some pips more food if not newly-born solves this mostly, but that's already lots of changes.
But yup, I don't have a solution.
Mosquitoes are about only thing that kills (if you're not doing any kind of yumchain, doing it is good since you spend so much less food from common town property), so until diseases or such I think they should stay. Even when they're main cause of me dying (other is just taking risk and lagspike when low pips of food, i.e. my stupidity).
we don't have any fire tech for us pyromaniacs
Sulfur plus short shaft can make one/three matches, carry'em in either special box for them (oh-a trade item!) or basket. You'd scratch one against anything and it'd give you same as maple leaf if wanted, or turn into coal if dropped on bare ground ?
I mean, if we're supposed to do boring stuff like move water from ponds further away in the beginning, why not make this one easier. Does Jason have a trusted capable friend who is able to think of most trouble coming from changes like this ? Should have, found any in Patreon ? Also, I'll subscribe to Jason's patreon, please leave a link somewhere where even I can find it...
If they only live to three then it's not an issue, plus why feed with berry bowl when you can breastfeed?
Oh, before fertile I go adventure to the wilds, same after. Or as old male I sit by the fire, feeding berries and telling stories about surrounding areas, asking what kids would do and at 55 I still can teach basics to newbies.
There wouldnt be 5 babies afk in town, since if just one baby is afk then it's used by the next person as spawn and no new baby is made.
Yes, and the next person would /die at one after seeing more of town, so there would be several. Often they don't die until I've shown them around a bit and they see no colorful clothes but need to make loom or something and only then /die.
BTW: This kind of idea-throwing goes faster in discord if you're there. I use it without installing (from web-browser) so no need to install anything.
Cannot be done I think, so options are:
-when oilwell pump ready it automatically gives oil (first try OR at finishing it), after that you are RNG's slave
-add % of succesful
Of these, I think first one would be applicable ?
I do not want to be annoying, but I've spent time explaining this myself!
Apparently many people in this forum defend this / die practice
but it has become a method to travel to other cities and the way I see this practice is killing the game
w/o /die they'd starve themselves to travel. And that's the way they like to play the game, so be it. But there should be solution (like family line one or something with burying people properly) - not sure what kind of solution will be found best.
Right now about 2 out of 9-11 babies of mine die, so I try not to pick'em up before they say/move/emote. Still often when I show them town then they /die, so I should drop'em first to local nursery fire for three minutes (looking like total newbie, wherein I'm just newbie lol) and stick around a bit.
Is having afk people really a problem?
Plus most of the time they get stabbed at one point when someone continuously feed them.
Also if a baby has no player spawn until 3 years old it could die of SID.
So not really an issue
I'd still feel obliged to feed'em from berrybowl, wasting my time. I've never seen a afk kid stabbed if someone is nearby with berrybowl-might be they don't want to tackle me b/c by that time I usually have knife or few. They'd know what happens to them very quickly (I've modified from total pacifist to this already, now imagine five babies to feed in town for three years-yuch).
What if using /die didnt kill the baby but only it's soul? Which then would be available for another soul.
You has the player that did /die could get reborn in another town but the other baby would be available for another player to spawn.
If nobody spawns in then the baby stays in a coma/afk and eventually dies.
There could be a limit of age where you cant spawn so you dont spawn as an adult or old person.
No, I've been in several towns where we fed our afk-only-fertile and thus saved town. This would probably be great waste of food in town. I kind of feel its good town doesn't die so I'd feed the fertile young kids too, though with berrybowl/berry to get chain going.
ps. Love your idealistic long-term txt, Jason should read it and make another good day for him:
http://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewto … 020#p57020
sometimes i get tired of them and just dump them to the nursery
there is always that naked old woman who kidnaps your kid and feeds them berry acting so nice, giving scavenged clothes and feeding her pie
and the newbees fall for it, pseudo griefers who just cannot accept that they are old and they should work so they start shittalking and swaying people against you
Well, keeping an hour of janitorial duties gives elderly some privileges in my mind. I don't mind sitting there with my irl fingers hurting already after an hour (yea I know, my good kb broke), feeding berries to kids and providing high value service by telling where everything is.
This doesn't include few areas, I always go 1-3 adventures so I know where prairie or something a kid is interested in IS.
I know you have some different values, I've never built a completed car, just newcomen, sewed wounds, done something that makes your ambitious projects to be able to complete. Well, not specifially yours but someone's.
That's why old ppl have low food pips, so they'd sit at fire and tell babies stories about where stuff are OR teach basics. I think it is one of the best working mechanics in OHOL.
