Great tips, nicely written !
It's also important to leave space in between berries for example : 3x3 , 3x4, 4x4, etc. so that later you'll have some space to put down water buckets and soil.

You can't.
I know that ^^ It was just a rhetorical question. If I can barely find the iron to make a hammer and an axe, how am I suppose to make all those other tools with only three iron near base ?
Even if I decide to skip axe, there is still seven iron ore I need to find. But skipping the axe would be crazy because that hatchet isn't going to last forever and it's a pain in the ass to gather those branches and keep the small fire alive.
And like you said, there are so many other steps to make before the stanchion kit is fully complete. And you still need to find that vein.
So yea, would be great to raise the number of ground iron a little bit. It's already hard enough to start a settlement as an Eve.
I had set my camp in a good spot and even found one vein. But only one ground iron all around the camp. I couldn't send my girls to go search and my two sons I had send out, never came back.
How can I get more iron from the vein if I don't have enough iron to make the tools to get them ? I believe you need at least six of it to make the necessary tools to dig up the vein and make a stanchion kit.
I even feel that the number of veins is very small. So far in the past hours I have played, I have found two iron veins. And I searched.
I would like to add that having one pie in the Backpack is enough. Don't be too greedy and store three pies in it. There are other people who need to eat as well and with one pie, you will have enough for a while.
If you are hording three pies in your backpack and there is a famine, be so kind and put them on the ground, so others can survive as well.
Yea, we had some baskets but most of the carrots had to be put on the ground. The berry farm wasn't really being tended and soil was getting low.
Stone hoe broke and there was no iron to make a steel hoe. We had some Adobe but no one made a sheep pen out of it. Can't blame them, probably didn't know how to make one ^^
It's a good place though, I hope they'll manage it !

Quite often when I have had bad luck with eve camp myself and seen at least few sons among me with couple of omelettes in the last few plates remaining, I often end up asking them: "Do you wish to learn something?" which in often times leads him or her ask for basic things, which is often not taught in tutorial and they need brief guide as what to do, for example beginnings of farming, and clay pottery making (which is in tutorial but it seems yet so difficult to remain in head yet in few days.) it will take some time until people adapt to things and that, and if we end up being negative for whole point of new people in existing, it will make the world feel unwelcome to them. We also were newbies the time we began and we pissed lot of ppl with our incapability, so how I've made my useless children become useful to me.- simple job, fetch branches, if they listen to you, tell them to cut branches and put on basket, like short shafts or curved shafts, for more kindling per run.
- bring food, try to put sharp stone in basket for them in hopes for them to realize at least how to get burdock. You can't just fully expect them to bring everything possible when it comes for bad enviroment, so have some forgiveness.
- berry farming, even adults become useful at this when you need to fetch the berries and cut them and put on tilled soil and wait that 30 minutes for them to grow up. It's tedious, more tedious if food is already scarce, but if you have managed to get bowls and baskets early on, it shouldn't be much of a struggle.Edit: and if you explain to them, and at least help them realize how things are done, it will likely help them remember, and likely share it with others who are new. So give some power for that sweet, sweet knowledge.
This. Instead of just leaving them to do their thing, ask them to do a real basic task and make sure there is ALWAYS food at camp. If you find yourself with a baby asking "wat do?" just tell them to grab a basket and a sharp rock and gather food. Admittedly this is a better job for adults because babies are slow, but it's better than them wandering around looking for berry bushes getting constantly sidetracked by hunger and doing nothing productive.
I find a lot of my time spent in eve camps - either as Eve or as a child - is gathering. It's simple, easy and extremely helpful not just to you but to everyone else at camp. It relieves pressure from everyone else and gives them time to figure out what they should do. If you just run around with a basket and a sharp rock bringing back carrots, haddocks etc you feed not only yourself but at least 2 other people who are no longer stopping what they're doing every 30 seconds to find berries. If you have just one other person that knows what they're doing, they can easily get omelettes up and running with little distractions and you can transition to gathering eggs instead to feed even more people.
Sure, it's a good occupation for them. But not every kid does it when asked to gather a specific stuff. Until now, only one of my kids has gathered what I asked for. One out of those fifty kids I had during my past Eve runs. I give them a basket, I either tell them where or show them the place and they still stay in base or they do something totally different.
I told one son to gather round stones to the east, because we needed a well. He came back with soil. Another kid I asked to gather branches. She stayed in camp.
I don't mind teaching new players. I even love it. But when playing Eve, I need to watch my sanity as well, so Tarr's Tip is very helpful. I only keep Q kids or kids that have passed the test.
I was just there in this family, Dov Keller. I died because of lags
When I was born there, they had a huge row full of carrots. There were 31 rows of grown carrots that we had to pick !
First one could be: Don't take ANYTHING from the forge.
Damn right !
Also don't you dare dirty those pads just because you need one bowl.
- Explained my kid how to make pies. While explaining her about the filling, she stated that she knew that part and then proceeded to cook the pie crust, without filling, in the forge with bellow.
- Showed one kid how to farm. He was holding a bowl and when told to take the bowl with him, he put it down and took the basket instead thinking that THAT was the bowl.
- Kids staying in base and stressing about the lack of food, yet aren't willing to go some tiles south or north to find ten berry bushes.
- Filling EVERY bowl with berries or water. Because they must be filled at all cost for some reason.
Well sometimes it can save a town. Imagine your town is being attacked by a bear and the last female gets bit. No medical supplies there to save her. Then, she gives birth to a baby girl right before she dies. The family line is saved.
I saw the game somewhere, I don't really remember where, but it seamed fun so I had do buy it immediately.
I was never a running child, too scared to make a mistake, so I usually stood still and watched the others. That's how I learned smithing, by watching the smith and check the OneTech when I forgot stuff. I asked people as well if I didn't understand.
Once I wanted to learn something new but no one was making that specific job, I checked the OneTech and took my time doing it. It took me a while to have a successful Eve run but after a while, I got the hang of it. Never really lived until old age, didn't really pay much attention to it ^^
But yea, observing others, trying out by myself, OneTech and some videos helped me a lot.
As if you knew everything from the start and didn't mess up couple of things ^^
Everyone has their different time to learn stuff, some faster, some slower. It's amazing to have so many new players being excited about the game ! Once they start remembering all those different recipes, the chaos will go down a bit and so many cities will be build and life will be lived.
If you don't want to bother with those new players, that's okay too. Invite some friends or other people to join you in a custom server or play a different game until those mass famines calm down a bit.
oh god .... the "giving-all-the-stuff-and-knifes-to-your-kid" tragedy is back ...
What I don't really like a bout the tutorial, is that it tells you to go get bit by the snakes to be born to another player. Many don't know that they can continue the road and try out stuff.
It would be great to have the snake room a bit further, so that they don't automatically go die after lightning the torch. Maybe set up some farms and some tools ready, so the player can try them out ?
Some carrot and berry rows next to some empty rows and soil. A stone hoe and some bowls ready to go ? Maybe they will actually try out all those stuff in the tutorial.
Oh wow ! Even the game is telling Jason to add Fathers ^^
Is that why she is known here as a big sister not as a mother ?
So I was looking through some family trees, checking how everyone was doing and I came across this :
Generation 1 started with a woman named Thea; not Eve Thea, just Thea. Big Sister Thea.
I stopped abandoning kids since the release unless I am an Eve and I don't want to lose my nerves.
Most of my kids are new players and out of twelve kids I pop out, four live until adulthood. So usually I keep them all, knowing that not all of them will survive.
Unless we don't have much food around, I abandon some kids, explaining to them the situation. It's important to tell them that you can't keep them because of food shortage, so newer players can better understand why their mother left them behind.
Unfortunately, not everyone will abandon their kid when food is short. One daughter kept popping out child after child, even triplets once. When telling her that we couldn't keep every child and not to feed the triplets, she ignored my warnings and kept every kid. We didn't even have a proper farm going.
I was once in a little town with eleven (!) little girls, five little boys and three men and I think four to five females. We survived thanks to the great location we were, surrounded by lots of food.
Before the release, I had one simple rule for how many babies I could have. If I live in a settlement with little food and I have two or more other sisters, I would keep only two girls and maybe two boys. If one of my boys or girls would die, the next baby I would have could stay. Most of the times my sisters kept all their kids and didn't pay attention to the food we had.
When you have the feeling that the food will not support all the future kids that you and your sisters will have, don't keep all of your kids. Maybe warn your sisters as well.
Hello Sister ! Good to hear that you had a nice life.
Now that I read, that our mother might have been a new player and didn't know that the place I found was to settle down, I feel a little better ^^ Thought she might have found a better place and simply forgot to go back and tell me about it !
Born to Eve Judie, Brandon adored his mother the moment he was born into her arms. She assured him that she loved him very much and little Brandon tried to tell her with his little vocabulary that he loved her too.
They lived in the wilderness for a while, surrounded by some berries, always on the look for a better place to call home. His little brother Aaban left the little group, not wanting to be a burden to his mother. He watched Aaban disappearing into the vast Savannah and swore to himself that he will protect and look after his mother, just like his brother did.
As soon as he was strong enough to fend for himself, he ran off to grab the best berry he could find and bring it back to his mother. After some time searching, he had found a decent place. It was warm, had some ponds nearby and lots of food. Excited, he ran to his mother to lead her to their new home. She called him a "Good Boy" and Brandon was very proud of himself.
Quickly, he began to gather some materials, always avoiding snakes and boars lingering behind trees and bushes. He set up a Home marker, a forge and made some plates and bowls. He planed the layout of the farm and started to collect some kindling.
He wanted to make this place a beautiful home for his mother, for his family.
That's when he noticed something. His mother hasn't returned to the base ever since he had set up the forge. He saw his sister once while gathering branches, standing next to a burdock, but it turned out to be a delusion. He waited. Surely she must have had more kids along the way and had to stop to be able to feed them all.
Yeah. That's probably it. She isn't dead. She can't be dead. She will return, he told to himself. And so he continued to work. Years passed. He finished making plates and bowls. Planted lots of berries, gathered food, captured rabbits and made lots of omelettes in case his mother will come back with all his siblings, exhausted and hungry from the trip.
But they didn't.
After years working on the home that he hoped his family will live and thrive in, he never lost hope. He was sure that his mother would one day find him. After all, he was her firstborn. A mother wouldn't forget her firstborn, right ?
Once he was happy with the farm, he grabbed a basket and went into the wilderness, on the look for iron. He avoided those damn boars and hoped to maybe find a trace of his family. And he did ! A berry bush with only one berry, a sharp stone lying around. He followed those traces until he finally found something!
Tools ! Hatchet and Fire Bow Drill, ropes and thongs. People started a camp here ! His heart skipped a beat when he saw a young man running towards the camp. He had the same black curly hear his sister had. It was his nephew ! At last, after years and years of waiting, he was finally back with his family.
But his joy shouldn't last long. His heart shattered into thousand pieces as he heard the terrible news. His mother was dead. Killed by a snake.
His eyes were filled with tears, his thoughts were by his sister, who might still be alive and who he had to absolutely find. Maybe she could answer all his questions.
Did she missed him ? And did she ever talked about him ? Did she tried searching for him ? Or ... was he forgotten ?
He didn't see the boar running towards him and before he could even react, it was already too late. With his last strengths, he walked back to the unfinished base, back to his nephew. He didn't want to die alone.
His last thoughts were to his mother.
Mother ... why did you leave me behind ?
Thanks ♥
Jason pushed out an update to fix some things and it inadvertently broke the networking in Windows clients. For non-steam users, I also noticed that the auto-updater doesn't seem to work for updating the broken v166 clients to the fixed v167. You can tell which version of the client that you currently have by reading the `binary.txt` file in your game folder.
If this is the case, simply re-install the game from scratch and let it fully update to v167. Things should be fine after that. Hope this helps!
Thanks, I'll do that ! Now if you'd just explain me how to reinstall the game, that would be lovely ^^ I don't want to accidentally do something wrong
Same here and I've restarted the game and pc multiple times, waited two hours and now I'm just waiting. Attempting Retry 25 ....
That reminds me of the times when some people told me that rabbit wholes don't get abandoned anymore, to always leave one berry on the domestic berry bushes and to never pick the last carrot of a row.
We finally have our Halloween Update !
I do remember seeing in the family tree that you killed her. Care to explain why ?
