That's incredibly silly and a terrible idea. I'd prefer if people spoke different languages based off skin tone (this removes group eves from not being able to communicate) while removing genetically different skin type mutations. Allow males from different skin tone families to marry into other cultures and then the mother can produce off color babies. These babies would either be like the mother or father and would just inherit the ability to speak to both while maybe mom and dad have to spend some time around each other to slowly develop understanding of each other.

Marriage gets added from this solution which tons of people have wanted forever, fathers get added which is another win in my book, and Jason ends up having to finish off the ginger models + african models so they can have true lineages. You would (almost) always know an outsider from a distance due to them specifically being a different player model type (unless they got lucky) which means it's very clear when an outsider enters the village. The only real cons I can see is players using this as a means to "roleplay" racism which is frankly sad.

Late to the party but I wholeheartedly support and genuinely love this idea. It adds another cultural dynamic to the game, bringss in something that players have been asking for since even the early days, and we get new models!

Perhaps there could be an added dynamic that also cycles through each skin tone whenever an eve spawns as well, so no two eves spawn consecutively with the same skin tone. This would ensure that the nearest eves would be a different skin tone and thus a different culture, further adding to that cultural dynamic- and works nicely if Jason decides to push families closer together, as he's discussed before. All the more better if more skin tones are added, which he also had planned at some point iirc.

I like that you're finally making higher water tech required for progress, but I'd like to ask that you consider adjusting the iron spawn rates alongside this. A big reason as to why you nerfed them in the first place was because we had no true iron sink at the time. The only thing we really needed iron for was for tools. Railways were in the game but aren't and will never be true sinks for iron because they're (mostly) useless.

Now that we're actually required to upgrade our water tech, we're gonna need a lot of Iron to do it. With a proper iron sink now- and one we need to attain quite quickly for that matter- I think its time for the spawn rates to go back up. If not the mines, then at least the ground spawns, so we might reach mine levels quickly enough to sustain our water supply.

Submit a github report in the issues section with a list of things that should be able to be stored in a cart but can't and maybe he'll get to it by Christmas.

But yeah he pays more attention to the issues github (sometimes) than the forums usually. Except then people start whining because "ree why no new content why only issue fixes" but that's what we're gonna get with his current style of throwing out updates every week with bare minimum testing.

Jason, I highly advise fixing the issue with kids not being able to curse if you're young to implement time constraints on after death cursing. Make it a command so that kids can curse the griefer too, rather than being unable to do anything whatsoever about it.

Also please, PLEASE fix twins. I'm tired of having to abandon twins because, if they decide to grief, I can't do shit about it. Implement broken heart syndrome and make curses to twins/etc apply to all parties involved. We need this in the game. Innocents are constantly having to deal with being abandoned due to the threat of griefing and our lack of ability to handle them of they do.

#156 Re: Main Forum » Ideas for incoming fences » 2019-04-19 18:48:58

I like the concept of having your own farm on the inside, but having dedicated spots to put your goods outside for people to use. Gives me hope that this idea of Jason's might actually have some use instead of just being a griefing tool.

#157 Re: Main Forum » So obvious and we missed it META discussion » 2019-04-19 18:42:14

An early oven does sound like it could be decent. Establishes the center of town, maybe even keeps the baby flood away from the forge area. And early pies are surprisingly underestimated.

I mean, they're not really needed if you keep carrots going til the first berries come in, but I've saved a few early civs by rushing early rabbit/rabbit-carrot pies using wild wheat/carrots and all those damn rabbits gathered from backpack-making.

They're simply unused resources laying around causing clutter at that stage, becoming less and less desirable as time goes on. Once you reach sheep, they're practically irrelevant. Doesn't hurt to make them into something people will use at that time. Wheat isn't scarce, is easy to grow, and will be needed later for compost anyways. The only thing a bit scarce that early is plates, and that's solvable.

I might try out putting an early oven nearby next time I'm in an eve run or early camp. See if it makes any difference in having kids suicide. Hell, maybe it'll even help us unexpectedly.

#158 Re: Main Forum » How the New Clothes are NOT an Improvement to Clothing » 2019-04-19 18:27:55

The way I see it is this: The new clothes are not intended to be upgrades of furs. They're intended to be upgrades of wool clothing. Pretty simple to think about.

Compare them to the apron/sweater, for example. I can spend 6 fleece on an apron that gives me 0 insulation and a pocket, or a sweater alone that gives me 24.5% insulation and no pocket.

Orrrr... I could spend 12 fleece [plus a a couple thread, which is negligent at that point] and get a shirt+trousers that give a combined 38.4% insulation and a pocket.

They're not meant to be better than rabbit furs. They're meant to give us options between pure warmth+decay, or non-decay+utility but slightly less warmth. You can choose between going all out for insulation alone, or going for slightly less + utility. Or you can choose between using a tool that's rarely used up for early shoes, or using 4 pieces of a constantly-needed resource for them instead.

The only things that aren't really considerable are sandals and the new hats. Sandals are downgrades from the snakeskin boots, and the new hats give no advantage over wool ones. They do look really cool though.

#159 Re: Main Forum » Get a wife, a dog and listen to the story » 2019-04-19 07:07:08

Tbh I love all these concepts, though they could use a little more refinement. Unfort I don't think we'll ever get baby slings though. Jason's determined to make us suffer lol.

Also really nice work on the sprites, they're very well made, and fit Jason's style surprisingly well smile

I see many users of this forum who believe that the / die system is positive and do not see any problem with the practice of child suicide
I also see the statistics of deaths by / die and they are very high ... in short we ALL use the / die but then it bothers us to lose the lineage and we decided to curse the babies

The issue here isn't with the /die command. Before that, just as many people simply ran and starved out of towns they disliked. Repeatedly. People still run over /die'ing, though fuck if I know why. You'd think if someone didn't want to be in a place, they'd area ban themselves..

Chances are this is why you were cursed. Not because they thought you went to suicide generally, but because you ran after being fed and held for some time.

This is a griefing tactic. People purposely will stay for 2-3 years, then run out and starve. Some even attempt to kill off any mothers that chase them by luring them into wolves/boars/mosquitos, because fuck this random player right?

Honestly I'd be pissed enough about it to curse too. While this wasn't the case, you simply wanted a better look at the town, its an understandable mistake. Those people are infuriating. Imagine the days before the /die command. Every kid ran instead. There were less skeleton clutter, but the results were the same, if not worse.

I hate that SIDS is one of the most common causes of death for a civ, believe me. It's frustrating to end up gray and old, with every child of yours having died in your arms, because they didn't like what they saw. However, I don't think the command itself is to blame. People suicided long before it was implemented and would continue to suicide if it's taken away. It does need to be rebalanced a bit though, I think.

#161 Re: Main Forum » Satisfaction of defending property » 2019-04-16 06:47:28

If it was so easy for him to be able to find a different basket, why isn't it equally easy for you to..? From what you said, there were plenty of baskets, they just had mutton in them. It's not hard to empty them. Or better yet, grab a cart and go on a basket run to a nearby swamp.. Or make one with the local wheat!

Point is, you can get another basket. He shouldn't have just grabbed something someone was using, sure, but there's no need to stab someone over it lmao- especially something as low-tech and easy to craft as a basket. You're just adding to the griefing problem that's already prevalent in this game. Trying to justify it because "he took MY basket reeeee" is only making things worse in the public eye.

#162 Re: Main Forum » If you could make only ONE change to the game what would it be? » 2019-04-16 06:39:23

Definitely adding in the zoom mod as an official feature. Practically unplayable without it.

Second choice would probably be making everything stackable, with only a few exceptions. Man would it help a ton with reducing clutter and organizing, esp old civs stumbled upon by eves..

I also like the idea of an official practice server with actual 'tutors', though that'd probably be doable on an empty server with eve chaining now that I think about it? One could feasibly set up a practice town through eve chaining on an empty server and invite new players by having them select the server. So long as you're fertile, they'd spawn to you as a baby first rather than another eve, right? Wonder why nobody's tried that before.

#163 Re: Main Forum » Crockets, almost died out » 2019-04-15 18:48:18

I was gen 2, Davy Crockett. Was a cool little town the Eve stumbled upon tbh. The last female, Delilah Crockett, went afk [maybe disconnected?] about 30-35 minutes into her life, luckily the eve managed to grab her only baby girl and get her to a berry bush before dying.

I fed her and named her Posy, also fed her afk mom but she only had twin boys before going old so I let her starve after that. Delilah was wearing all the black clothes so that's probs where your set came from. I stuck it out with the blue skirt and green bowler hat. Looked very pretty smile

Looks like Posy carried the line a few more gens. Sucks it died to SIDS.

#164 Re: Main Forum » How much difference can you make? » 2019-04-13 19:47:11

Personally I prefer early towns as you can make a bigger impact on it than in a mid-late game town with almost everything done already. There's fewer people, and much more to do, so your actions have a larger effect as more people are born further in.

biggest difference I ever made was almost single-handedly creating the foundations of a recent belltown. Was a really fun life as son-of-eve. I picked the location, made the kiln, fired the bowls, got the first of the farm planted. Met another chill dude that was unrelated that brought in iron, and we made most of the steel tools. Helped finish the sheep pen and charged the other guy with getting mouflon in my final moments.

Came back over a day or two later to a sprawling city. My sheep pen with the pond corner entrance was still there, just a bit bigger and the ponds were wells w/ pumps now. The berry farm was in the same place, but expanded. There were buildings, and a lot of roads, and a bell tower in the sheep pen, and one of Kilian's wedding altars. There were even outposts!

You'll never know when your hard work pays off, and it often doesn't, but it's damn well satisfying when it does.

#165 Re: Main Forum » Dumdum Drawings in Discord » 2019-04-13 17:31:20

I'd love to see a "Player types of OHOL" strip in this amazing style lol. Some ideas

-The noob [maybe picking up a pie, yelling there's no food, then starving. True story!]
-The griefer
-"elite"/veteran, preferably yelling at/stabbing someone over something small
-The berry muncher
-The "protector" types running around with a loaded bow
-The rabbit hunter, returning with their haul to a family of corpses
-The runner baby
-The emote spamming baby

#168 Re: Main Forum » hetuw mode » 2019-04-12 17:45:49

This looks dope! The only thing that'd probably keep me from using this over Awbz is the lack of the related females counter display. Also, having to hold ctrl to zoom in is mildly annoying compared to the ease of arrow keys on Awbz.

#169 Re: Main Forum » Born in to a badly griefed town... » 2019-04-11 17:12:49

I was your granddaughter Misty smile Hopped on when I heard about the griefing on discord and that y'all were the last fertile female. Was hoping I could help out a bit, either in reversing damage or just staying around to pop out babies.

Unfortunately it looks like the lineage died a few gens later thanks to suicides. It's annoying af, but at least it didn't fall to griefers.

#171 Re: Main Forum » When you’re Eve, what do you tend to focus on? » 2019-04-11 00:55:46

I usually aim low for the first steel tools [axe, shovel, hoe]. If we get there before my time's up, I usually either target the beginnings of the sheep pen or some rabbit hunting for backpacks/clothing.

Unfortunately it's not often an eve town gets beyond early steel tools before the eve's dead. Depends how far they have to range for a good spot to settle. Its much easier to do as child of eve, as they [usually] have a spot picked by then and you've got that extra 14 minutes to make a difference.

I know a lot of people who play as eve will usually just suicide on a wolf or boar, or just starve, if they don't find a decent spot within 5-6 minutes of spawning.

#172 Re: Main Forum » OHOL merch? » 2019-04-11 00:51:10

vinyl OHOL family stickers would be so cool! Maybe with some basic rabbit clothes or hides on, to really emphasize the early-tech survival concept. Throw in a few dog stickers for family pets and it'd be golden.

Could also do some key chains and the likes as well. Maybe put a scene from the game with the logo on a shirt, or get someone to put together a cool graphic.

Would totally throw money at some OHOL merch smile

Spoonwood wrote:

Do you have a family tree from that family still?

Lineage link.

I was Eve's son, Kimmy Wilson II. Made most of the camp while the eve came and went with the abandoned mining cart we'd found. Beyond a few banana runs to help get us by til the first carrots grew in, I'm not sure what she was really doing otherwise. Sisters were mostly out in the wilds for the first 20-30 mins, probably sticking closer to food sources. Mom brought them back once the initial carrots/berries were planted.

Also found Murdock Destro while out hunting for iron, and brought him back. He did some iron runs, helped finish sheep pen, and later got our mouflon. He asked to name a girl to keep his family name and it ended up sticking, thus creating the Wilson-Destro family.

#174 Re: Main Forum » Family tree glitch? » 2019-04-10 19:19:18

Jesus christ Jason please fix the family tree. It's so fucking glitchy right now. Feels like I can't go a single life without something in it screwing up, like the Dutch Family Tree that joined the Megan camp last night.

I'm guessing that something fucked up in recording the mother's death, thus causing it to believe her to still be alive. I've been having similar issues with this for weeks now. The family tree seems to just completely skip over a player's life, thus causing every generation after them to be "ancestor unknown lul XD" because it didn't register that one life at all.

#175 Re: Main Forum » Story of Reviving BellTown » 2019-04-10 18:54:30

Man I'm so happy this place is still alive and kicking. I was the son of the eve who settled that area, and built most of the foundations of the initial camp. It's the first time I've witnessed an eve camp bloom into a full blown city and words can't describe how meaningful it makes the gameplay feel after so many lives of "eve camp, good spot, oh look they all died two gens later."

Glad you dealt with the griefer as well! The place seems to be a magnet for them unfortunately, as large towns tend to do ;; So long as we've got good players like you defending the place though, it'll keep going for sure.

Long live Belltown!

Here's a quick little transition from my first life there to my latest
