This is the post that I wrote right after the rift.

"I support this new map change and have been wanting it for awhile now. YOU HAVE ONE SHOT to make the best of your life and the actions you take have more impact on the world. Every single thing now matters and there are not millions and millions of the same thing to be exploited at will everytime. Every dug rock, every iron bar, they all have more worth and meaning. I can even accept the well idea now if we actually can all utilize it together."

I still stand by it.

The rift is gone, but the above is still true because of people having to group together in towns, and having everything nearby those towns run dry.

I'm starting to see the bigger picture with it all, and agree with jason about the problem with ONE player being able to carry a village. We had too much power and not enough communication pre rift. While there are still things to be worked out, I think it's an improvement.

However I agree with fug's post here about the eve thing, and think that there should be a way to transfer biome abilities between families(maybe some kind of guidebook). So that the families STILL NEED to be found to progress tech, but not all need to survive at the same place for tech to happen. If that were the case, those "useless" races would have a chance to gain abilities to make their own towns, and would give more value to individual families. Every family wouldnt need to be in the same spot to progress tech, and one family could master the biomes, and with collective work and luck, become powerful. We're more likely to trade one item that can empower our family(guidebook?) rather than a ton of items themselves, I think.

I think we stay the same distance.

I don't think we'll get back to the monument until an update requires the map to reset and therefore reset our position and the start of the eve spread.

I'm not positive about all that, but I'm like fairly certain that's how it is.

*edit oh wait jason did wipe the map because of out of biome objects.. we might be close to it.

There are those new way stones. I have used them a couple times to find nearby towns recently.

Yeah either the eve spawning needs to be dropped down a peg, or the spawning needs to be tightened.

We are way to far from everything.

Oh dang, I've been thinking that there are WAY too many bows in towns lately. Sometimes I clean up the town, and often find at least 5 different bows lying around.

Yeah horses can get taken out by arrows. People think they are safe and try to keep distance but often misjudge it and get shot off.

Lol there's a video by twisted where someone broke into his tutorial and told him they were "pest control" or something like that, and then went and stabbed all the snakes in the room full of snakes.

3. The drinking requirement is the same for most South American countries. If you can hold the bottle you can drink. Just selling it to kids might be a no no. Make sure you check their ID when you trade now.

This was a good story. Definitely gave me memories of learning the Smithing there in that adobe prison. Also made me realize how good it feels to get over that hump, and how it becomes second nature. Getting out of that prison would be a cakewalk for me now, even if the whole layout changed and everything moved around. It's weird to get good because you tend to forget where you came from, and tend to forget that everyone has to go over the hurdle.

Even after that though, there's still the superfreaks like tarr and the Koreans, who could build a massive structure in one life, where it would take a pretty good player about 3 lives. They're the inspirations, and still push the boundaries of what is possible.
