I cannot have killing require teamwork, because then a hermit cannot defend themselves from grief.
Dogs are such a great idea.
Give us dogs, who can track the murderer from the killed body. You will see police role very, very soon
Realplay means being a hermit leaves you vulnerable.
Killers getting slowed is not realistic.
... but dogs being able to run faster than people is ...
Dogs would very much help realplay:
Dogs barking at hostile people (players with wielded weapons).
Dogs being able to track a murder grave to it's murderer.
Dogs attacking a nearby murderer and disarming them.
Dogs holding a murderer at bay.
Imagine: a griefer is setting up to kill people, but the town has dogs. If a greifer kills (a person or another dog) dogs will attack the killer and disarm him (hold weapon in their mouth)... and hold the killer at bay (growling sound and killer is frozen on the spot) until someone else clicks on the dog to calm it (drop the disarmed weapon on the first click, and stop growling and release the killer on the second click should other people consider the murder justified.) While held at bay players could feed the killer while being interrogated. If they rule against the killer just let them starve while being held at bay.
This works great for groups and hermits.
Hermits having a couple dogs means at least the dogs will bark at the greifer with the weilded weapon hiding behind the tree. If the greifer kills a dog to shut it up, the remaining dog(s) would disarm and hold the killer so the hermit has a chance to interrogate.
Dogs are man's best friend for a reason!

Yes! This sounds amazing. It would be difficult for a hermit to kill and domesticate a wolf and defend themselves from murder, but that makes sense- if you're alone and only have two pairs of hands you're obviously more vulnerable to getting killed and you're going to have a hard time domesticating wolves all on your own.
Dogs were a huge part of human civilization back then (and still are, now). Let them be a part of the game!

Fuck that invulnerable dog holding shit. Stab the dog.
PSA: If you are attacked by a dog kick/knee it in the face as it lunges, it will be off balance. Present non
weapon hand in defense, when it attacks that arm, use weapon on its head. The ears are sensitive and exposed, they have almost no
defenses from above or any mobility while biting something bigger than them (you).
Tracking maybe ok if not OP as fuck. If with all the nerfs to killing and how easy it is to dodge attacks if
you are paying attention to your surroundings you are still getting killed all the time, you are just incompetent.
If you are running about alone, not looking at the guy with the knife in his pack warily or stopping next
to the sketchy person who has a drawn bow in the camp. You are gonna get what is coming to you..
Also there is a concern as to who's dog it is, who it defends and from whom, do they fight each other?

Hmm. Maybe the dog could be loyal to the direct family of the person who domesticated it? If the griefer is the family member, then tough luck! Have more than 1 dog.

Keep in mind that unjustified murder should still be possible with the person getting away

I really like the dog idea, bloody people will get killed no matter what in the radius that is the lenght of dog's rope, new knife nerf is really crappy. Better add content instead of changing the game that much.

If there's only one dog that's a good idea. Multiple guard dogs are very effective.

My family had a rottweiler when I was growing up. Now there was an over powered dog. Fur so black it was like a little black hole in your vision. A neck so thick and fur so slick you couldn't hold onto it. It didn't care about pain at all. It would routinely jump from the second story balcony to chase deer for fun. It could run so fast it could cross acres in seconds. Very much the "hell hound." Dogs made for defense aren't going to be kneed into submission. A pack of rottweilers don't care if you have a weapon. Pain makes them attack harder. If you see a pack of guard dogs you better think twice about your behavior around them.

Dogs simply don't like threatening people. If weapons are drawn they will bark. If you murder a human or dog they will track you down and attack you, disarm you. They don't take sides, they hold killers at bay. No fighting. Just waiting for justice.

Dogs being tamed from wolves in a similar fashion to sheep being tamed from mouflon?
Offline
Ya, wolves could have a pup, and you would have to capture it similarly to a capturing a mouflon lamb.
wolf pup + bowl of minced rabbit = domestic wolf > domestic wolf with puppy
hungry puppy + bowl of minced rabbit = dog
Offline
Although now that I write that out, it would mean dead puppies everywhere which would be depressing.
wolf pup + bowl of minced rabbit = domestic wolf + bowl of minced rabbit = domestic wolf with puppy
puppy + time = dog
... and you would have to feed the dog "bowl of minced rabbit" to get another puppy.
