Are you sure about this? The killing action has been updated a while ago so that you can click on either the square ahead of them or the square behind them if they are moving, along with their current square.
I'll do some testing on my end and make sure it's working.

It felt like that, but it's hard to test it - they usually immediately hide behind tree. Please test if it works correctly while they are moving single tile to hide. Does it work only for slowed down players or in general?

Hiding behind a tree is another issue, though.... Hmm... thinking about how to fix it.

Okay, fixed it so that you can mouse over people standing behind trees. They are not highlighted when you do this, but you can see the highlight on the covering object disappear, and you can see the tool-tip change.
Fix will go live next week with update.

I've had a chance to test it today. Definitely it's much much easier to put down knife 2 or 3 times and finally stab innocent person by accident, than to kill murderer on slowdown. Replay shows that I've been right clicking in the middle of murderer. I've sent it via mail with stdout.

I don't kill often. But when I want to, I miss more often than I hit. Heck, most griefers that I've dealt with actually starved before I was able to stab or shoot them.

Scorp I killed my first moving person on Sunday. The first time I put the knife down because I aimed at him. The second time I aimed for the tile that he was moving to and I got him. At full speed I have no idea how anyone could manage that but I got them while they were slowed. Hope that helps.
If it's true that you need to click ahead of murderer instead on him - that's bug in UI.
And having stab and put down operations both on RMB is bad design too - dropping knife while chasing somebody is the least likely operation you want to perform. I've also seen many times people do the opposite as well - stabbing somebody that moved onto tile, while they were trying to put the knife down. I've even got killed as a kid this way, running to pick a berry, as some elder was passing the knife.

It's really not optimal, but I also won fights without a knife against a murderer. He dropped the knife and I could pick it up.
I guess somehow it should be possible to make the killer drop his weapon.
And for the moving part, probatly if a person is moving the game don't see him betwin tile 1 or 2. For the game he is already on tile two, when you see him in the middle of 1 and 2.

also we need the tree save to explain ourselves, people kill you for gear after u kill a griefer, too many nerfs to kill
and a bunch of dead people after one aggressor/griefer
