Best One-sentence description of OHOL?

Working on summarizing the most interesting things about the game in a single sentence.

Here's an example:

Get born as a helpless baby to some other player as your mother, get older by one year every minute, play one small part in a multi-generational family tree, and help rebuild civilization from scratch, one unique life at a time.

I'm looking for better versions of this, or completely different one-sentence descriptions.

How would you summarize this beastie?

That was a fun exercise.
Here's some rephrases/one-offs.

You are born as a helpless baby in a family of other players, where you age one year every minute,
trying to contribute a small part in a multi-generational family tree, and help rebuild civilization from scratch,
one unique life at a time.

In one hour, you'll experience life and death in a multi-generational family, all the while trying to contribute
to society, which is fighting to survive in the harsh wilderness and evolve from hunter-gatherer to modern civilization.

In one hour, you'll experience one life, from birth to old age, where you play a single part in a multi-generational
family of other players, trying to rebuild civilization from scratch, one life at a time.

Re: Best One-sentence description of OHOL?

Jason,

I've always liked your description of the game as being a "10,000 foot view" of humanity and civilization. I try to work that phrase in when I describe it to friends. This game is very much a minimalist simulation of social relationships.

I think it's important to work in the anonymity of the game as well. I think many new players would expect to play with friends, which is not what the game is about. Additionally, anonymity affects gameplay in a huge way because you never know exactly who you are playing with.

How about: Contribute anonymously to a multi-generational, multiplayer society, as you live out your life from birth to death with only one hour to give your family what they need to survive and thrive without you.

Be born next to stew to make more stew or make it so more stew becomes available so your child can be able to eat stew.

Child starvation simulator, where you build things out of most weird materials to advance faster in research tree, just to see that others kill each other on the first chance.

Evil bastards, they feed starving kids to make more starving people.. Instead of building factories and giving their parents jobs to be more than beggars.

All with the snug moral satisfaction too..

How about:

Each time you play, you are born as another random player's child and given one hour to live a complete, unique life, birth to old age, in which you can nurture a family and advance a civilization that may live on well after you are gone.

I almost like it. Just two points.

1) Each time you play, you are born as another random player's child

---> Sometimes you are an eve.

Maybe more like:
Each time you play, you are born into a different life

2) nurture

---> maybe use a different word for it. Basic English speaking people wont understand it.
