Its a silent kid, goes to a berry bush, eats one, after the hunger meter goes down eats one more. When empty goes to next bush. With the berry plantation this means he moves 5-6 tiles in a lifetime
i killed one and all he asked is "why?"
i asked things, told things, no answer
if a kid makes no sound dont give clothes to him/her both times was a boy as i seen not sure if it would feed kids or us
dont think someone spends a lifetime eating berries when hunger drops with six

Or maybe you encountered twice the same non-english speaking streamer trying to tell his wiewers something about berries, filming his intro for a tutorial video in another language...

I think the bots are cool as fuck.
I hope it has cool shit like neural nets <3
I wonder if a bot can learn to play this game?
It would have to deal with retraining for each patch.

It should be able to, Neuroevolution is the way to go for this. I have seen it done on more complex games.
I, however, think it would likely ignore the crafting completely and just run bush to bush eating berries. as the only "goal" is to stay alive.
Maybe some complex things could happen like food storage, I could see them hoarding food, I doubt it will get anywhere close to farming as it is fairly easy to stay alive till 60 without building anything.
This being said, if another goal value was implemented, something, like giving points to each crafted item and give each item or chain of crafting EG farming a certain point value, Could cause some interesting effects. Thus networks that craft more would be selected for the next set.

Pure survival and life lenght is the first score but not the most point-worthy.
Descendants alive is one I like but it's not the best. Needs more.
I considered using "sourounding complexity" (as per: average steps required to make items around you, like in onetech) but it gets messy and needs some balanced starting condition evaluation... which is hard as a baby... Use first 10 years of life as "base" and compare with next "time steps"? also, other players around skew this rating to much.
Btw, grading just once per life won't do. I'm going with grade every "time step" - one year (minute) in my case.

What if you tested them on a private server, then you could see what happened
if you ran like 80 of them?
Do you think they would evolve society ever?
I figure if you are smart enough to make a bot and compile things
(which I am still noob at) you might be able to make a version of the
game client that doesn't display any graphics or sound for your bots
to use so you could run more at once?
I think it would be cool if you had then with genetic algorithms and did
the variations off the Moms..
I was thinking about this the other day at work, I had completely forgotten
I had posted in this thread.

If it was bots spawning bots, could you get away with no value function and let the game decide their values via in-game selection from survival?

Wait. Someone has actually coded these bots?

it would be nice to have domina bots, he would feed you when you type F near it
or road maker bots, they would cut trees in swamp/tundra/desert, brign to the end of road and make a long road

My bot client is just a console windows sending and receiving packets. Graphics are useless for me so I didn't even bother using the oryginal graphical client.
I've used 15 bots at once on official server - no problems there. Running them on private servers is pointless - bot learning to survive only with other bots will learn bad habbits not backed up by real-people experience.
"Generic algorithms" are already there. I call them personalities, and Santan has few already. They react differently and look for different things in "life".
If it was bots spawning bots, could you get away with no value function and let the game decide their values via in-game selection from survival?
Its already like that. The main program is "spawning" bots, looks at their lives and evaluates them. Did I missunderstand you somehow?
Values from units with best results are taken and slightly tweaked for next "generation". Sadly, I can't simulate to many bots at once as I need one account per bot living at the same time on official servers so - most of the time its 1-2 accounts living few lifes for single generation, and then reevaluating.

As long as it doesn't matter what to optimize for, you could try optimizing for aggregate length of phrases said by other players in hearing range.
