The amount of towns I’ve seen handicapped with all bowls filled with carnitas is insane.
And it happens in the real world, so why not incorporate it in the game?

I think anything that should be edible should be allowed to be consumed. The bowl of carnitas especially but even mashed gooseberries and things of that nature should be edible. It poses a risk of players eating items that are meant for something else but there is no reason a player shoulder starve to death standing next to clearly edible food that the game just won't let you eat or let the towns get overrun by half-made food. It's kind of silly.

To quote myself
... Game meat is food, it's silly to starve while there's dead animals lying about!
