I was just part of a family with no last name. But I looked in the tree, and it started out with Eve Jane.
The last name was lost along the way, and I'm trying to figure out why. Take a look at this spot:

Beautiful Jane has a bunch of children, most of whom get her last name. But two are nameless (not so strange). And one is just called "Tracy".
Anyone remember this life? Were you Tracy? Is there a weird story behind how you got your name? Maybe someone else named you? Maybe there was another Eve line living nearby?
Or maybe your mother named you, and there's a bug here?

If someone with no last name names a kid, I think the kid loses the last name. I’m guessing a nameless person, maybe one of her nameless kids, named Tracy.

Yeah, possible. So Tracy was adopted by her brother!

I've seen this a lot and I'm puzzled myself.

I feel like someone who is Nameless should at least be Nameless Lastname. Then if they grow up and manage to have kids, they pass on the lineage properly.
Maybe not on the page... but in the code.

It should be on the page.
Lastname is a special gift from Eve.
Firstname is a special gift from parent.
Idiots shouldn't be able to take that away.

When you have a kid and put it down without naming straight away, anyone can then go by saying "you are ..." and the kid takes on that name and loses their surname. Sometimes this happens by mistake by someone saying "you are a insertcurseword" then you have child Aaban.
On the reverse we had a kid that begged to be fed but ran each time it was then grew up to lead a bear into town. We were able to name him using the "you are ..." without holding trick, not enough people cursed though.
I think the pro of naming runners outweigh the con of others possibly naming your child/losing surname.

I had a kid once I forgot to name until he was too old to be picked up. When I remembered, I gave him one by going up to him and saying "You are..." to him, and it gave him that name, but, unlike my other kids, he didn't get the last name. So even if a kid is named by their mother, failing to get the last name can happen that way, apparently.
