Do dogs die over time now? [suggestion for dog improvement in post#4]

I'm asking because I spent all day trying to get dogs. I logged off having finally made it at the end of the day, but when I checked a streamer who was in the same town ten minutes later, the dogs were done. sad

I started with a collie, fed all three pups. Fed the grown airedale, and fed either two or three of its pups. So there should have been 2 dead old dogs, maybe a dead puppy, and 4 or 5 adult dogs.

Do you think someone intentionally kill them off or will they disappear on their own?

If you take a puppy from their mother you must feed the puppy carnitas (cooked pork) or it will starve to death.
Dogs die of natural old age after 30 minutes (30 in game years.)

Thank you. It's possibly 30 minutes had passed when I got the chance to check up on them.

I was frustrated that they were gone, but half a lifetime is pretty decent and more than good enough for people to enjoy their company. That's good to hear.

I managed to get two more dogs today, and I've found the issue.

Dogs normally path to the nearest human, but both my dogs ended up far away from the base. I'm not sure if it's because they followed someone they couldn't catch up with, or because they didn't have a player in sight and randomly wandered away.

Regardless, I would like to request a change that keeps dogs at their farm.

If it's any help, maybe it can be done by making it remember the spot where it grew into an adult, and it will never go further than a certain number of screens away from that spot?
Or it could just seek out clusters of people instead of focusing on a single player or wandering blindly.

...I don't have a great solution for it, but it would be nice if they stuck around some how. It's pretty risky to get a dog in the first place, what with feeding the wolf and all, and it feels like it's all for nothing when it disappears in the wilderness.

If I'm being honest, it is highly possible that someone led your dogs away from camp on purpose. Dogs don't have a purpose, take up space, and have a bad reputation with us players who were here for the first few days of their update. It was pure doggie chaos.
So. Many. Dogs.  O-O

That being said, I'm glad you're having fun! I wish you luck with your little fluffy companions! smile
