Mini guide: killing 2.0

There been changes and new techniques found lately, also new excuses and patterns so i rewrite my old guide

Before you rage off, and say "killing is bad" , you have to  see more points of view to decide.

So lets start off why people kill others:
-Yes, there are griefers who go for killing the lineage, generally twins, triplets, quads who are playing for sake of twitch views, or just bored players who are trying it out, generally they go for weapons very early, not focusing on any work, or clothes, they tend to say they want to hunt, or bake and beg for weapons.
-The opportunists: generally kids who are spoiled at birth with clothes and weapons for their existence, they arent pressured on loosing food bars and they look for chances to use their weapon, generally on males.
-the newbee  killer: they just want to try out killing others, and liek weapons cause generally those are limited from them, they dont know the mechanics, they carry a knife in basket or bow all time, and they generally end up killing someone by accident, they usually starve after this, but if not the continue ramping up kills.
-Wasting: you can see wasteful people right from baby age, they think they are more important than others, they run around as baby demanding clothes, bumping on gear and make their mothers run after them, eating pies as a kid when they got other options, using milkweed for clothes when they got sheep yarn. this can come off from less experience, but some people are very much determined to do bad habits like killing mouflon, burning logs and using hoe on one soil, because they dont care about others work. We could argue that this people deserve death or not, but disrespectign others work doesnt change that wasting will kill off some people eventually, so in all cases keep yourself to economical usage of tools and soil.
-thiefs: i seen this often, generally on high population, people tend to take furs or clothes which wasnt intended for them. i think its fair if you caught the rabbits or most of them, or if you fed sheep, the ownership of it is yours. i dont think inheritance matters, generally people who gear others, arent the ones who created the clothes, and no one should decide ownership based on relation, rather than skill. But even so, people might try to kill you if they miss out on a backpack or if you swap clothes on babies. general rule is that you dont use up things others produce without asking it first, be that furs, iron, fleece or milkweed, upgraded carts. If they mention it that you should think about how you would feel in reverse case.
-baby machines: there are people who disregard any kind of precautions with babies, and try to raise up everyone , even if food is scarce and the chances are minimal. Its a common goal to keep the lienage alive, more babies wont mean more chances, as they might use up food from teenagers,  sometimes  you need to hold back a bit, for like 10 minutes until you can fix the damages. If you arent doing so, some people might have issues with it. Generally is a bad idea to go above 7 females, as you might just die out in 14 minutes.
-pop controllers: there are some people who go overboard and kill a lot of people in name of pop control, lot of times they kill males with any other reason. generally any decent player can produce enough for themselves and a few more people so isnt the best to kill people for their gender rather than their skil lelvel.
-sponges who refuse to work, but they constantly eat and hoard clothes for themselves and their kids. lot of people are annoyed by them and might kill them.
-roleplayers, generally kings and queens who try to tell you what to do instead doing themselves, they search for trouble and talk a lot, and genrally end up killing someone who tend to disagree with them.
-Killing for clothes or weapons, horses, carts. there are people who try to take the most advanced things in any camp, generally they go for backpacks and aprons, carts and horses while the level of the settlement cant afford those to produce it en mass. they even kill people for not givign to them.
-Wearing a crown. Back in the days Queens were the main nurses, who raised the babies in a bear rug, nowadays lot of people try to roleplay as King or Queen, and lot of people dont appreciate their behavior, especially if they dont work and are unskilled players who are bad at decision making. Wearing a crown might get you killed. Im totally against crowns as i got bad experiences with this rp kings and queens, they want attention, power over others, and wearing a crown means just that, true leaders work for their community and they make their own clothes, keep producing food, keep advancing in tech tree and prove their worth. So you dont need a crown to lead others, you can be unique and inspirational person without it.
-random disagreements. I see a lot of people kill over words, some of are understandable, as we shouldnt tolerate racism, and if you are the fault, you shouldnt talk back i na derogatory manner. If you take soemthign from others, say thanks, or apologize if you did a mistake. Hard to know who is newbee or who is doing things intentionally,  even jokes are misunderstood sometimes. Try to communicate normally even if others are mad a t you, they might have their reasons and might change their way.
But sometimes people kill for things like taking a clothing they wanted to give for a baby girl, naming their kids, if you call them lazy,  or for not letting them do unoptimal decisions.  This is quite silly but lot of players decide to do something on their own and even got problems with you helping them or telling that that isnt optimal or useful at that moment.

KILLING IS NOT GRIEFING! its actually anti griefing, jason kept it in the game so you can remove griefers and lineage ban the killers and the victims too. If you consider all killing bad, you are part of the problem. The only time is griefing, when people kill the few females, baby girls you got to end the lineage. Knowing how many females you got is important. If you got more than 3 you shouldnt worry about one getting killed, especially if bad intended player, lot of people try to use that excuse against you.

Proof and motive. Before killing someone, try to ask for a motive, having safe distance from them. If people do it for a reason, they tend to stand in spot and they will answer normally. You got 1 minute to decide, dont rush the decisions, maybe more kills happened same time, maybe the person had a reason. Dont curse or stab right away cause you can get cursed and killed too.
If the person tries to run away without talking (sometimes they need to move and talk same time) than your suspicion might be right and killing them is necessary.
Reverse case, if you kill soemone, and someone sees it, try to tell them normally what happened and why it was necessary and ensure them you wont kill others.
Sometimes its an accident, they try to put down a weapon and someone runs trough it. But that is also a common excuse. Generally you shouldnt leave weapons out in free, shouldnt let anyone have weapon without storage. And if someone kills other people, tell them to give over the weapon.
If they dont do it, and they arent working with things like sheep, baking or rubber, this is a sign that they might do it again.
Generally is a bad sign when people run around with loaded bow or knife in hand, it takes one click to kill someone by accident, keep safe distance and tell them to stash weapon inside city. You can use snowballs to disarm them, they might be just newbees who dont fully understand mechanics.
You can disarm people with throwing snowball or leading them into a mosquito.
But also, if you see people with a collection of knifes and the file, might mean they are up to no good.
If you take a look on the surroundings and clues, you can also get some pointers what happened. Pen and bakery is the area where most of kills happen by accident, and generally smarter killers are smart enough not to do in middle of the city so if they still standing dont assume that they didnt know you heard it or they are too dumb to run away, maybe they think they did rightfully and thats why they dont run, so give a few seconds to explain themselves.
Other clues are age and clothing. generally griefers and lineage killers dont care about clothing themselves up, so a younger naked player with weapon is a bad sign, an older geared player is a good sign.  People tend to kill the older player cause "poor kid" but if a player takes a weapon at age 8, chances are he wants to use it, so if you see weapons around body, its more like a duel and not an execution.
Reverse case: geared kid and naked adult. Well, this is unclear, some players are good enough to find enough gear or make it very early but generally a pack needs 10 min from scratch and an apron extra 10-15, gearing babies and inheriting is a bad habit, and you shouldnt do it.  Gearing people based on skill levels can improve the camp efficiency, at least give storage to smarter older people and give babies only hot clothing.
Would be fair that if others ask you for a pack and they are older, you give to them, its frustrating to fix a camp when others hogging to clothing they didnt made and doesnt even use it properly. Also some older people tend to give kids clothing and themselves are naked, this doesnt mean necessarily that they are bad at game, but lot of us creates extra when gifting away clothes.
There are a lot of mind games behind all this, and people will always try to find excuses, some are dumb , some are lies. Even if you forgive, keep an eye on them, a good indicator of character if the person goes back to work right after the cooldown passed or goes hanging around and eating, talking for long time.

How to kill others.
Babies are slower and are almost defenseless, they can be grabbed by anyone, if you are a mother, you can drop them on animals, and they cannot defend against it. You can snowball them, stabbing and shooting them also works, as they are slow to run away. If you are male or old woman, you can kidnap them, take them afar until they starve. As a woman you still feeding them so kidnap isnt an option, if no others are around you can starve them by not picking up, maybe talk to others to not pick them up.
Generally you want to kill babies who run around from warm spots, bump against clothes and weapons and talk about kills and make their mothers run around. Also pretty effective to stop overpopulating, to kidnap the dumb girls and toss them out of camp. This is also a test, a kid can always jump out and prove its worthy so you shouldnt get mad about one time kidnap, if the person does it 3 or more times, thats a reason to kill hi/her as its not testing and doesnt care if you are smart enough or not.
Boys cant overpopulate, so no reason to kidnap them for population control, only if you are low on females and they dont want to try coming back as female, and you got no time left.
Generally askign them might work, so no need to use force. Useles babies will be useless adults, so this is the easiest way to get rid of them, lot of moving babies turn out to be griefers, leaches, its not okay to run around as baby when you are put on a warm spot and bumping to clothing, especially if there are others babies too. I often gear the ones who dont move just to piss off this selfish toddlers, but then i generally got to kill them too.

Lure them away: promising something valuable can work sometimes, kids follow you for hopes of loot, especially dumb ones dont even bring food, so luring away or keeping them talking can starve them. Lurign them into one way rooms or closing them with a door can also work. babies and toddlers up to 5 years can still be put between newcommen bases, and can only go upward, so they can be imprisoned without outside help
now newcommen can be undone except if you put the beam kit on 4 stones, thats a bit more expensive and you only need one of that to block the kid on right side, the rest an be normal walls, stone or adobe wall will need pickaxe, adobe even needs 2 water and fast clicking so hard to do it alone

pits and teleports dont work anymore, the most effective method was dropping babies into enclosed pen with blocked tiles around it, you could control where they are teleported
my record was around 11 babies under one life, and once i killed around 20 people with this method, kidnapping kids and killing their mother in ginger update

bow kills: bows are low level weapons, can be made even on eve camps, it only needs a yew shaft carved with sharp stone, a rope, then for arrow a sapling, one flint for head, made with sharp stone, a thread on the sapling, and use a flint on a goose feather ( click on pond with goose to scare it and get a feather) . its needed to get goose for file, so no knfies before bows, get sheep, bison (2 arrows), also against bears(3 arrows) and boars.
there is two way bow works: right click,  you go near the target and from one tile you will launch the arrow. this can have the side effect of stepping more than planned, running into the wolf/board/bear but against humans it can work without losing the arrow, as the action wont happen if they move.
left click: you got a 3 tile radius, where you can launch the arrow on an animal or human which is mostly inside the tile. Yes mostly, it works when they are already steeping in and when they are moving out. Requires good timing tho, so needs good experience with bow.
Arrows can get lost when people aim at moving target(moves on items) or tile with item on it.
Lot of people know about it, and use it, so you need to be patient, if they run trough an empty tile, you got a short window to aim the tile and shoot, if you miss you can still pick up the arrow, if you aim on the person while moving out of a tile with an item, you lose the arrow.
People think their movement is random, and bm you running in circles with slight variation, but more often than not, they do 2 patterns over and over, so you can predict when hey cross the empty tile.
You can still kill a moving target with the right timing when you got no lag, just wait when it crosses the border of a tile but before crossing another.

Knives: knives are short range which makes them more efficient if you are having storage, maybe clothes, as you need to follow the person, if they arent younger than you or older (they have to stop to eat). You have to build up a yum chain, and eat before attacking, this makes sure they cannot stop to eat or they end up dead, you just need to stab the tile they are moving trough, even with some lag, if they stop they might see client side they got distance but in reality they are standing server side. So if you are running away from a fight, you better never stop running, and dont try to bm, running in circles, people will catch you by just stabbing multiple times. You want unmoveable/small items under your victim when using knifes, if you miss, it will do a short animation, if the item can be swapped you will swap the knife for it, so you might lose it to the victim, or some other person.
When you are trying to escape a person with knife, you want to run trough moveable objects which are bigger in size, like a shaft or a bowl at least, you can pick up some random item, and if they try to stab you, you can drop the item in exact moment with right click and swap for their knife. thsi requires a bit of experiencce, but it can turn the tides in your favor and you can stab the while they are still confused.

Disarming: there are a few ways to disarm people. Best and easiest is snowballs, if you hit them with a snowball they will drop what they are holding. If this not an option, you can run toward a jungle, and run between trees, if they follow and you run trough 2 mosquitoes which just moved, he will run into it. Same works for bears, wolves, boars, but mosquitoes can be foudn easily in top side of jungles, harder to see, and if they try to cut corners they will lose the weapon.

The element of surprise is often the most efficient tool, if they dont expect to be killed, you got a short timeframe to kill them. To do so, you either hide, make them talk or create distraction.
Hiding behind a tree is effective way to snipe out someone with a bow or multiple snowballs. For knife, you need a backpack and cover up the knife with big weird items, so they cover it up. That can be rabbit fur, pies, indigo but even a wolf hat helps to cover. Some character types, generally females got advantage on this, as long hair covers the pack, especially brown chick can hide a knife with no trace in pack.
If people are talking, asking weird questions, keep moving, at least move diagonally up one and left/right from them if they got a pack/apron as it only takes 2 right clicks to kill you. Either that or same tile as them (its confusing as you cover each other, but dropping down the knife works in this case). I prefer diagonal, as i can see speech bubbles better, and got enough time to move when i see them taking out a knife. Back in old days when packs had fixed order, people were throwing out 3 pies before they stabbed you big_smile
Dodging a stab generally confuses them so you got a short time to retaliate.

Also killing people is easier from top or bottom, as the screen is smaller in size toward top/bottom, so they dont see you until is too late.
Sides are easier to predict and dodged. Also choose a time when they eat/smith/talk.  You can also put weapon behind corners/trees, pick a random  item up, swap it with the weapon and stab after. This is quite surprising to them if they dont notice the weapon behind tree. But also more risky if you got no other weapon. But this is an effective method to kill someone who promised to kill you, its outside camp and you want to work, have a hidden weapon and run toward it holding a total random item like flat rock or branch. You can also swap a loaded bow with an item, you dont need to reload at all, just aim and shoot, and swap back when not needed. Just be on the same tile to swap it, or next to it.

The effective combat styles:
The Hun:- you dont attack at first, even if you got a weapon, you lure them out until they are outside camp, outside scream range, slowing down so they can keep up but cant quite, once you far enough you dodge the first attack then retaliate.
patience is key, especially if you got similar experience level, a missed stab or shoot is enough time to get the attacker killed
The afk: -you chase a bit, when you see he tries to lure you or run around, go to side and pretend you are afk. When they charge on you you jsut stab/shoot the tile next to you, their animation will be slower as they aim on you not on the tile you standing, you aim the tile. This needs right timing, or you can die too, generally works against unskilled attackers.
The noob:- you pretend you are bad at it, you stab and swap an item, then pick it up before it arrives and stab again. This also works better against inexperienced people but also against experienced ones, especially if you do it on 2 separate tiles, they will think you are angry and unfocused, so they can dodge it and they run to take the knife.
The basket technique: same as before,  you pretend you messed up the controls, you put the knife in a basket with one item and swap them over and over, pretending you cant control the clicks, then right click the item and stab.
The give up method: i used this accidentally against a horse griefer, she lured bears on camp and was too fast to stab her. I was 58 and she thought im already dead, i stripped off my apron with the knife, so she tried to bm me and the last survivor guy, i took out the knife from the apron on ground and killed her. The apron on ground has different shape than on body, covering up the knife a bit, and they think you need to pick it up, gear up and then stab but actually works with right click right away.
The double knife method: have a covered knife in a pack, try to stab the person, if its good at dodging, you just drop the knife and act like you are scared o pick it up, they might think they disarmed you and they become too calm, you got a second to use the confusion using the second knife.
Generally anything that confuses them, can be used, and i found out the more skilled your opponent is, the more patience you need to win.
You can use surprise and just charge down a noob to kill, but if you miss the first opportunity then you might get sniped later or framed by the victim or becomes more careful on  its steps.

The last technique is a bit harder, you need to lure them into a one way room, run around it and enclose them. you can also make a two sided one way room, run out on one and clsoe both, that might work with a U shape room, but its generally a lot of setup.

Generally with more experience you can be more calm and focused during a duel. Also having a good reason to kill. killing people randomly is easy, you can kill babies and kids when no one around but its not too satisfying. Im very angry for a few minutes and if someone doesn't comply i can use that anger to  chase him down, make her panic and finish her off. But when im chased for no reason, and its a me ot them situation, or try to save others, i got a worst rate of success.

also zoomout mod makes kills harder, you want the smallest zoom for best reaction time, and each zoom level is different reaction time, different lag, different feel on timing. you can get used to 1.5 zoom but i still think you will get worst results if you use it on attack, if the opponent goes aggro, just zoom down to normal, if you are running away you can zoom up a bit to lead them into a trap.

You can use others, especially kids for a distraction, lot of people are disturbed when a kid pops out, or a toddler asks a question, its an ideal time to kill. And generally when you turn 8 nobody expects you can hold a weapon.

As for kill spree defense, you always need hidden pads behind a corner and multiple needles. if the public ones go missing. As  a killer , you got to get rid of pads, or just all the needles to make sure the person wont be healed, if you kill for a good reason you can remake the dirty pads after.

Framing and increasing attention. Both are same but depends on who lies. Sometimes people will tell that xy might be a griefer, you keep an eye on them. If they come with the straight request for a curse, i would say that that person is the fault and let them play it out themselves, or try to talk with the other person and even warn him that someone tries o frame/kill him.
I really hate framers, more than killers, tossing dirty work on others makes both results good for you. Or you champion dies, or your enemy. And you can even kill him on cooldown. While if its just, you can give a newbie a weapon to deal with a griefer and use him as a jebaiter.

Snowball are the best for domestic disputes, generally low skill people who do stupid stuff, and get angry for telling them their mistakes are very bad long run, as they will try to kill or frame you. I really hate dirty talk after i just warn people. generally i could kill them yet i choose to warn them once. So the correct attitude is to say sorry or explain if you do something. I had people to make pads from fleece, when i fed all sheep for an apron, this isnt a big issue, and a good effort generally, but dont act like im the one fault when you disregard all the work i had and turn it against me. A simple sorry does the trick, you can even talk it out. But straight up getting angry when you are the fault asks for trouble. Same goes with soiling the bush when i do a road between them, easy to see road above and below and putting soil is 10 minute loss for me, when it happens second time same life, im raging out. Same goes when someone takes the upgraded cart i just made cause "we are sharing". no you are wasting my time, i done 20 minute job for a reason, make your own cart or use other which isnt upgraded, if you just messing around dont take the only horse, if you are younger ask the person who is working there if you can help or replace him, no is a no, if you cut corners, others get mad, and rightfully so.

You need one snowball for a baby on normal biome, that generally enough to kill it when the mother expects that she is fine for 30 seconds.
But to be sure get a basket and use 3 at a time.
For an adult you need 4-5 if she/he ate in last seconds, if you see eating ,you can wait a few seconds to one minute (bring bigger snowballs, they melt into smaller).   Or you can time it in each 10 seconds to block eating. If they realize you are throwing at them, they might dodge one or two and you might miss a shot. But generally a 75% full character which doesnt have maximum bars (age 14-40) goes down to 3-4 snow balls
you can even carry 6-7 but it will cool you down a lot so you either build up a yum bonus, and wear hot clothing or stop to eat often
snowballing annoying people like grave diggers, road makers, berry extenders, rp noobs is generally very fast, leaves no trace, even you can use for pop control, hitting a few baby girls when their mom isnt around. You need to make sure there are no witnesses, and you kill them at first.
One snowball can be a joke, so dont get too  mad about it, if you see they take second then move out of screen and eat. Snowball griefing can be bad, some people dont understand jokes. I had a naked chick chasing me with bow for one single snow ball and cursed me for not letting them to kill me. So you might end up cursed if someone realizes you are killing people with it
But if they not, you get no slowdown or bloody bones, and they forget it in a few minutes. Snow balls can be used as bow, but the exception is that you can spam it near a snow bank and you can risk it if you got 3 balls, making it very difficult to dodge for attacker and very bad holding the weapon, if they get hit, they get disarmed and can be killed with their own weapon.

Bugs like teleporting bloody weapons, running to animals to cure previous wound, or getting a mosquito or snowball wound before stab has all been fixed.
Now the only option is to run into a mosquito to drop bloody weapon and ask for feed, or put bloody knife in a nosaj.
Generally people remember your gear. not your name, "blonde lady in apron", you can surprise them with changing your gear, generally to something less unique, like straw hat and sheep skin or seal skin and different color hat, it throws off people and they think you are someone else.

Dedicated guards are bad, as mostly newbies do that or middle skill people and they scare people more than protect, generally no one will kill others, but after an argument, somebody might die. Taking away workers to protect others in peace time, results in less food, and those people tend to get power hungry and maybe kill others by accident or for drama, then the chain killings start.
Better to give weapons only to experienced, older, geared people, no storage no weapon, inside city no open weapon, no multiple weapons, and no weapons free to access. Take bows out further, in visible distance from camp and dont gear kids with knifes and arrows. Have around 3-4 knifes distributed to smarter people and dont use them as a family inheritance, always make sure people who tend to sheep, compost, bake or make rubber get one. If you cant make a weapon you dont deserve a weapon. Dont even borrow knifes for cutting bread, go and cut them. Also if you arent using knifes for bread, mango, sheep, rubber, you shouldnt withhold from others.

he main goal of this guide is to understand that not all kills are bad.
Not everybody starts a killing spree, give them a chance to explain. You need to learn how to kill, how killers think to defend yourself. its more than meets the eye.
Bad excuses are :
"he is racist"- dont believe this one right away
"cutting jungle trees"- that was the dumbest one lately, thanks anobesewalrus
"he is a griefer" with no context what he did
"he is rude" - that alone doesnt deserve kills or curses
"hey daughter curse xy"- no context, using you for the relation, this is especially suspicious if you have a naked mom, eating berry and complaining on someone and that person is working hard

good excuses are generally more complicated, the person stands still and talks calmly
you dont need to curse or kill right away, if the person promises to hand over weapon or never to repeat it
generally if a player made gear for himself its a good indicator that had a reason to kill
8 year old naked people are generally griefers so dont judge by age, its not a poor kid, if the first priority is to get a weapon before any clothing or storage

if you can, warn people that their behavior is unacceptable, tell others that you might kill XY before you do it
talk a few minutes to smarter people about plans, this comes handy later when you need backup
talk to babies that someone is dangerous, or talk about what you are doing, what they might do to help

it would be fair, to give a chance for others, at least dont kill them on cooldown, even if you dont give weapons to them
but when 2 persons both got weapons its fair to let them play it out
we should do more arenas to teach fighting, self defense, in a controlled environment
if the general skill is higher, low skill killers cant roam around killing innocent kids without getting caught
and you can always talk it out with the veterans, cowardly accusing them, calling them names, calling them griefer, killer prevents them to get abck to society, and might get you killed or might get them killed and you lose the only person who cared enough to risk his life to save you from the real griefers
some people can make clothing, weapons very fast, and can kill a few others, dont pour oil on the fire, always try to talk normally at first
the best players i know can kill you in a second for acting shady but they go back to work and never mention it
if someone is complaining 30 minute long about someone else, chances are she is a newbee and rather kill her before she does something stupid or makes more drama

and roleplaying is nice, but just because someone is your mother, doesnt mean her intentions are good, and someone is male, nto so closely related, he must be bad. dont let others tell you who to curse or who to kill, dont let to be manipulated so easy. Kids arent the fault for their mothers action, and generally you punish the person not others, but if the general attitude is like the current, you get no way back after a kill but to not leave any witnesses.
