L'Hôpital's Rule

The famous theorem on limit convergence and derivatives is called "L'Hôpital's Rule" in every text. Every text also generally mentions that, although attributed to L'Hôpital, the theorem was first introduced to L'Hôpital in 1694 by the Swiss mathematician Johann Bernoulli. Guillaume de l'Hôpital was a wealthy gentleman mathematician and wanted a rule to be named after him. Bernoulli needed money.

I thought it'd be a helpful little story in light of the intellectual property issues the game has been having. But-- I guess it made more sense to me than anyone else. I'm sorry.

Seriously though, Bernoulli is really well known for so many things. He could kick this one to L'Hopital quite happily. What should've irked him more was how the constant e started getting called Euler's number when he was the one who first identified it.
