I've been thinking about the areaban, and how we could fix it... infact... I've been thinking; 'screw the areaban! lets have something different.' And by different... what if the ban didn't exist? Wait... hold on! Before you say 'hey, w0wma, you sound like a griefer!' or before you just close this thread. Hear me out!
What if the areaban was the new punishment for griefers...? what if the more curses that they gained, the larger the ban gets. Until it eventually puts them into Eve 'hell'. Then it lifts after x amount of hours/days, and if their behaviour continues they get sent to Donkey Town as the ultimate punishment.
The same rules would also apply to the lineage ban.

I said it on the discord and I will say it again... I love this. Normal people get a 20 min area ban before they can return. The more curses you have the longer that number becomes up to 24 hours. This would make it hard for griefers to come back to the same town. I do think there should be a little gap before you come back if you die over 30 just to keep people from treating the game like minecraft and not letting others take over their projects. But, the more times I come to a town the more intensely I care about it lasting a long time.
Area ban removes the very people who would be most invested in a town thriving!
Area ban hands it off to people who don't know the history and after long enough all the people who play this game a lot are banned from the place the population drops and it kills the town. Area ban should create gaps so that people don't just camp out dominating one job or project, and it should keep bad actors away. Right now it works against towns living and makes players less invested. Gotta change it.

A lot of people really like playing the early game not sure I would call it hell. This would also potentially make it a lot more difficult to start as an eve because most of your kids would be griefers.

Yeah I don't understand the name "eve hell" that's the best part of the game. But I still like this idea, I don't think it would mean only griefers are pushed to eve camps, there are enough people using /die to get there that you would still get the regular group of people who just like eveing.
Also, I do think we need some area gap before you come back. It would be to tempting to just chain in the same town all the time and be born right back again. I know I would do it and lots of other people would too. I think that might make the game less... interesting though because letting go of your town and seeing how it is without you is something I both love and hate. And I always want to come back and strive to keep it going. But too much candy isn't always the best thing.

Perhaps merge the area ban with the lineage ban.
However, if your lineage survived well, and none of your family members cursed you, you could be born to/as your descendants/sister's descendants only. (if marriage happens, to your own kids)
BAM, quite a few people would like to keep playing in the same space, and there needs to be support for family protection over the rest. The other family won't keep you afloat, but your own family will, so if you want a chance to return to your wanted town, there it is.

It would be targetting long time players as well as griefers, unless lifetime decay is a thing

Early game is pretty much perfected at this point on how to succeed (as long as you have people willing to play) and as such is incredibly samey.
-Find spot
-Set up kiln
-Start clay
-Make pottery
-Someone farms, someone gets the rabbit, third person fetches the iron.
-*New* Start and get the sheep.
-Farm/forge until enough tools are done to start next level of play
-Die
I much MUCH more prefer mid to late game because you have the freedom to do whatever you want in a town generally. Feel like building? Mid game lets you start to try to shape the town around whatever design you can get others to go with. Feel like making a silly toy? Late game makes the perfect spot to make a giant heated jogging center. Early game suffers from being both paint by numbers, a race to get as much done as possible, and a game of chance to see how many sids babies you get.
It's Eve Hell because not everyone wants to play early game and more importantly people don't want to be stuck always in early game.
fug it’s Tarr.

i would like more scaled and directed baby booms
all i see is that i born to a single mom, maybe there is some other older girl
then she has 2-3 girls, then they got each 2-3 girls
then they got each 45 babies
around my thirties, the town is bustling with people, yet i die alone
then im born into a gen 3-4 camp with maybe an axe if lucky and they got 15 babies, barely any food
30 people run around until the ones who are decent, survive, generally all male
you are lucky to have 1-2 decent females
then no kids at all, even after you fix the issues
towns that can support babies, have no babies, towns that cant have too many
somehow we need more ways to boost fertility in advanced towns
if there are too many eves they should not have enough babies, not the older towns
one solution would be, the more males in an area, the higher chance of eve spawns so at least you don't have to go far to find a new home

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

Would having a system for generational preference alleviate some issues? Could end up with less sids if players could toggle a preference for gen 1-10 or gen 10+. Not a guarantee but higher chanc
Offline
Letting people respawn in the same time over and over again would make the SIDS epidemic far far worse.
