Someone called me selfish today (trapper etiquette?)

I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm making this post out of an ironically selfish desire to seek validation.

I was born 3rd generation to a pretty standard camp.  I like being a trapper, so when I saw a bunch of naked people I figured I'd be that guy.  I do my usual thing:

1) look for unused trap in camp.  No trap, so
2) grab a needle, grab a sharp stone, throw it in a basket, go find milkweed, make trap, make thread.
3) trap rabbits, find flint, make backpack, trap more rabbits, bring unskinned rabbits back to camp.
4) get more thread for needle, get more rabbits
5) make clothes for self, get more rabbits, bring unskinned rabbits back to camp.
6) repeat steps 4 and 5 untill i have a full set of clothes (in this case i made a rabbit chestpiece, if seals are involved i sew a seal coat)
7) drop rabbit stuff in camp and focus on other things (babies and iron usualy)

I get to step 7, and now I'm getting iron and trying to tap a vein that is right next door.  My aunt rolls up on me and calls me selfish.  My mom named me "Iron"  and since auntie led with my name and I'm working on tapping a vein I assume thats what she's taking about.

Me: I know where vein is
Her: IDGAF
Me: How am I selfish then?
Her: You kept needle.  I see you made all those clothes for yourself.
Me:  There's seriously only one needle?  thats stupid.
Her: SMDH

I'm pretty sure I'm just venting on someone else's idiocy here, but just to be sure: I brought more than a dozen rabbits home for the camp while I was out doing my own thing.  How is no one making another needle?  How is that my fault?  There were 3 backpack sets on the ground at the time I got yelled at; Most of those were from me.  Right after the altercation I went ahead and made 6 needles in front of my accuser.  Its one of the easiest things to make.  Did I fuck up some kind of weird etiquette here?

Just bums me out man.

Re: Someone called me selfish today (trapper etiquette?)

i make 10 needles from a rabbit every fucking time
near the pen
so they can take it and lose it

generally i don't make full clothes
depends on many factors
if we don't have tools i get tools, 7 can make a vein, so if i see vein i rush it, recycle chisel and then make shovels and hoes
if it's late i make shovel then go for 8th iron
if i find 3 more than shears and knife
generally takes 25 min to make a pen, property fences are decent, just to get the sheep inside, then plant around with sugar
or stone bases or adobe
i guess digging graves and fixing with u letters is viable if no other resources

making shears and creating a enedle with yarn can be much more efficient, and you can spare ropes for tech upgrades

hat: wolf, if i go shoot a mouflon then i shoot wolfs too, it makes it safer and with the update, they are bottom left side, annoying with pack tho
later i can mass produce bread and hats, if already got sheep
chest: seal, much better, looks good, 3 or 4 furs are not worth it
shoes: not a big fan of wood shoes, i think it costs a lot and people die with them too often, people miss shoes all the time and they become garbage if no one takes it, that's why i think best shoes are the painted wool
loin cloth is kinda the only option, skirts en mass arent good, with the new milkweed spawn rate 1 or two can be decent
looms kinda ruin towns cause all they do is feed sheep without composting and roleplay

with the new springs, seriously important to make an outpost 200 away, which has another spring site, generally must be a tarry spot within 60-80  and the two can be close to each other
200 tiles also allows people to come back, so when elders die, kdis can go to other outpost and bring them back

a horse is very good early, allows finding ropes, veins more often

during my logn travel found that veins are often on a line , badlands often are on a line
and the next badland is often straight to previous one, just check the flat sides of a biome and follow the 90 degree lien it shows
if a vein is already mined, just go straight trough it, from city, or follow the 90 degree line, generally gives extra veins on the route

i rarely make clothes from wild sources, if i do i make packs only and for hard workers only
but i generally bring back snares and snare from a horse and run trough savanas then when i come back i pick them off and advance
that can save on timers and if someone finds it, well, they deserve it

She's just jealous of your gear. But I would've probably hunted more furs for others to use too. Even so, Making clothes for yourself still benefits the town long term as it gets passed down.

Also hunt seals and wolves if you have the means.

Oh I did!  I was leaving unskinned rabbits back at camp every other trip.  Just kept the needle in my backpack.

People are often too to make things for themselves.

Re: Someone called me selfish today (trapper etiquette?)

As pein pointed out, some people don't like using milkweed for clothes instead of using it for rope.  Their position goes that you just wait for, or rush sheep.  I've had troubles finding a needle in a town which has a ball of thread and a needle when trying to make a bowler hat.

That all said, what you did has uses.  It isn't griefing.  Your clothes can get used by others, and if you brought rabbits home, that's meat for your family members.  So, her calling you selfish doesn't make much sense.  Did you play optimally by making clothes from milkweed on bigserver2?  That's something for you to consider, and play as you think best (I personally don't like clothes made from milkweed on bigserver2, in low pop play I will do that though).  But even if you change your mind and think your play wasn't the best later after considering it, I wouldn't sweat it.
