Another hotfix

So, with the Eve coordinate bug, we were still on a spiral, and way out in the weeds at that.  I'm pushing an update now with .... yeah... sorry... another wipe, to get us back on a clean slate in the center.  We will be in a nice little walking rectangle, starting at 0,0.  And people will actually be close together, for really real.

I also fixed a server crash.

I also fixed swords so that they aren't contained, and wrote a bit of new code to allow for transitions on worn clothing, which allows the sword to be used on the backpack, and hang off the bottom of the backpack like it's in a holster.  This may be useful in the future too, for other clothing that can have a special transition.

In one of my lives, I noticed that ponds kept refilling from empty quickly, and we had so many around that we could get by for a while on that.  Looking at the transitions, I see the same thing happening for shallow wells (admittedly not as much of an issue) but NOT for deep wells.  I nerfed the refill rate of ponds and shallow wells by 10x, to get them more in line with deep wells.  Thus, once the ponds go dry, you really can't depend on them for "a bit of water forever," and you really need to figure out higher-tech water sources, for really real.

You also no longer eat by accident if you try to put food into a full backpack.

Re: Another hotfix

Is this wipe going to fix the weird Eve spawns? Just today I spawned in the arctic away from a spring and just a few days ago landed on a spring on a desert tile (the spring was located next to a badlands tile so I assume it spawned on a badlands tile under the surface of the desert tile.)

Swords are still incredibly OP but it's nice to not be able to run around duel wielding. Hoping once the wipe goes out that people aren't so close that they're constantly running back to the same town to kill the entire population.

Water wise I definitely think that's for the best. RNG + quick filling wells/ponds made it where you didn't need to completely rush the pump/diesel/oil but I'm still not sure how fast is too fast in that area of play.

In relation to the other thread I don't personally know of any duplication bugs at this time but if I figure how to duplicate things again I'll make sure it gets posted to the github.

Backpack fix in relation to food is great, that's something that has always been annoying in breaking a yum chain or just generally an easy way to waste food on accident.

Thanks for the fixes Jason, hope this week is a bit better than last.

I hope you didn't wipe server 12 again

Bug: Backpack with Sword never decays.

Is it supposed to be that backpack with sword is large but sword by itself is uncontainable? Why isn't sword large instead of uncontainable. You could effectively cart swords by combining them with backpacks if carting them isn't intended for some reason, but can't cart lone swords.

Re: Another hotfix

Since we shouldn't be relying on ponds long term can we look at a way to remove them for space?

I was going to suggest this, but I figured I'd wait for the change to settle in. Get people used to not relying on them before you get the ability to remove them. "Boiling frogs" and all that.

Believe you're right, but don't believe you can't be wrong.

This.

I do like the no longer eating with a full backpack.  That definitely annoyed me before.

Re: Another hotfix

Removing ponds would just be a griefers tool.  Seriously, build around it or find another spot close by.  More water isn't something to throw away.

Re: Another hotfix

Jason, a few people manage to get a belltower on server12 up since Saturday.  Next to that BellTower someone wrote a note that said, and I point out it was not me, 'dick move jason'.  I laughed, but honestly thought with the first wipe that low population servers might have been an oversight.  It sounded like you might have made an oversight from your previous comment.  Now I'm no longer laughing at that note, and won't be in the future at it.  It gets worse... a Twitch streamer, who I won't name in case there's a problem with me quoting that person said this morning on the s12 discord: "The bell tower is done now I spent most of my life collecting flatties for a road to the tarry spot I want to do the oil stuff later tonight on stream"  That person had plans to make a diesel engine too, and in a low stress place, where others might help that person out.  Things were well prepared with a good yum supply also and iron and sulfured latex ready to process and a road to a tarry spot.

Yes, BladeWoods, he wiped server12 also.

I place all the flat rocks someone gathered and lined up from Buggy's place to the east, right before the wipe. That whole hour of my life hitting stakes and placing rocks... fml

Re: Another hotfix

As the other S12 people are saying you should probably be mindful not to wipe their server (or any of the low pop servers for that matter) unless it's absolutely needed. They've already got the ability to self fix issues with the apocalypse should something come up and I'm sure they don't like having to rebuild from scratch every time BS2 has an issue.

Nice to meet you Sam!  You were Lizzee's child one life.  She didn't know you, and there's always the potential problem of unknown people turning into an issue.  Happened to people on server7 a while back.  On behalf of her (I told her I would say to you), sorry about that.  I'm Eve Spoon who raised you out on a horsecart and walked you back to Buggy's.  I think the spiral starts around that spot again.

Re: Another hotfix

Yes, I will put something in place to wipe only specific servers in the future.

My existing code infrastructure doesn't let me cherry pick servers for wipes, but I will have to add that.

I hear you on the sword protecting the backpack from decay.  Will fix later this week.

And yeah, they can't go in carts.  Will fix that too.

Re: Another hotfix

yeah ponds should disappear but maybe give some resources for empty them so it's not totally useless or bad
i mean they give some water but they just look bad, especially if they make a bad farm around it i rather not bring water to keep that up
