I can't remember if I ever posted this here before. It was unlisted, and I just decided to make it public for historical reference.
Imagine if One Hour One Life looked like this:

The arms look so creepy. But please bring the baby crying sound back, maybe for female babies

Oh God the music! It caught me off gard by the end xD

Looks more artistic, but I'm glad the females don't look like that.

I like the Style you went with better, it was pretty cute though apart from the freakishly long arms. Thanks for sharing.

I thought this one was better at showing what the gameplay is actually like. Instead of showing modern and future tech that won't be the game for another 2 years.

I've seen an image of this somewhere quite some time ago.
Whatever happened to this style? At what point was this how you envisioned the game and what caused you to change it to what it is now?
Edit: Ah here! Did it once ship in the game folder about a year ago? https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLifeD … Nudity.png

Maybe that’s what the world should look like if you ate shrooms in game lol

That's actually a great idea if you ate shrooms you would see the world with the old art style
But i like the current trip you get from shrooms so maybe LSD would do that.

My friend who was making this art style was taken off the project after a rocky year of collaboration.
I redrew everything myself in my own style.
Regarding this vs the new trailer with the future city at the end.... does that new trailer show radios, airplanes, oil wells, railcarts? No. So it could be argued that the game is FAR BEYOND what was shown in the new trailer.
There are four things in the trailer that aren't in the game yet:
1. Modern car
2. Monorail
3. Robot
4. Future walls
But there are like 1000+ new things in the game that aren't shown in the trailer.
So you're complaining about these missing 4 items (which are clearly way way way future tech), but ignoring the 1000+ new things that have been added since that trailer was made? Really? And you feel somehow ripped off?
If you want to see how much new stuff has been added, post-trailer, go here and scroll back to before "Bear Cave":
I bet you'll give up before you scroll that far.
In my browser here, I count something like 180 pages of new content.
Did you know that there weren't even stone walls in the game when that trailer was made?

Most of those 1000+ things are parts and tomatoes and shit, I'd know, I've got 17 YEARS OF GAME DEV.
toque blanche? check, shawl? check, backpack? none.
yep it's stone hoe time

If you count the "parts" it's more like 2000 new objects have been added.
There are 2687 unique objects in the game. There were something like 700 in the game when that trailer was made.

i mean, those 1000+ ítems are mostly parts or items that have only one use (say pork) or without not real practical use (say Morse radio)
Also don't get me wrong on this because it is not my intent to offend but advertising future content (say robots) on a game that is way far from it (and if I recall correctly there is no disclaimer of it in the trailer) I believe the consumer should have the right to complain or feel that they were promised something that there is not in the game (saying that it will be in the future it's not enough)

The trailer very clearly says, "AS I ADD NEW STUFF TO THE GAME EACH WEEK......WHO KNOWS WHERE WE'LL END UP?"
Also, at the beginning of the trailer, when in my modern home office, I say, "CIV IN THE GAME HASN'T GOTTEN QUITE THIS ADVANCED YET. MAYBE SOMEDAY, THOUGH."
