I recently had the situation that my mom was clearly new, and the camp was also clearly dying. I would have saved all of us, if I could. On my search for supplies, I realized I was really far and made the decision just not to go back. I felt bad about this, but I didn't see a chance to pull things out for the camp. I might have kept her going for another minute or two, but then we would all go out together.
I felt like I was doing mom a favor by actually making sure that at least I made it to 60, but I'm still not sure that this was the right choice.
When do you guys bail on a settlement?
Offline
When you start off trying really hard to help the settlement but there’s a really bad briefer who hides stuff or chops all trees etc, and when you try to alert people w knives of them they just ignore you and idly eat the last of the food. That stuff really gets on my nerves so I leave to avoid further aggravation

As soon as you have bowls and backpacks.
fill bowls with berries, Backpacks with tools.
As long as you never go far from the green you never die.
you have now time to choose the best place to make a village.

Killing a griefer kills him for 10 minutes, Cursing him kills him for 90 Days.
4 curses kill him for all of us, Mass Cursing bring us Peace! Please Curse!

don't feel bad, if you are not the only girl, then its ok to go out, saving everyone is impossible, you can try to teach them how to save themselves
I remember when one granma fed a camp of 15, I tried help but I saw that no soil, no water around, and she still fed everyone alone.
I even scavenged some food. She was so desperate when all the berries ran out, she almost gave up. I picked down the corn when I was born so popcorn saved us for a bit, then everyone started working finally. It died out anyway but at least people noticed how much pressure it is to produce food.
Now with rift was different, I always bail when is more advanced and more cluttery, I like to make my own design.

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

If I'm in a primitive camp with no well and dry springs I bail because I don't see any point in struggling to keep an unsustainable settlement going. You can draw from ponds while you build a cistern and horse cart to carry water from far off ponds but it's just not worth it to me. Some people love playing at being eve but to me it's just a boring grind. Wandering around gathering items to build the same simple toolset and infrastructure every time.
So usually I bail and try to find a friendly village with a well that my children can settle down in. Usually from a very young age so I can hopefully get there before baby time. If I'm a boy I'll stick around to help out for a little while then go exploring when I'm older. Typically near the end of my life I'll return to the primitive camp to see how it's doing and find it abandoned, with my mother and siblings bones lying around. I've never found one still surviving.

if we are in an overpopulated eve camp I just walk in one direction until i find plenty of wild food. Over populated is probably more than 2 babies/toddlers/children per adult/teen. I stay a good 50+ tiles away until my stomach is big enough that i feel confident I will survive (usually after 12).
