I got angry when I disassemble lasso to ropes.
And, I'm trying to fix tool problem, like :
https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLifeData7/issues/497
https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLifeData7/issues/513
First, Tools condition is,
(Permanent means it cannot be carried. you cannot pick up permanent. Like kiln, berry bush)
1. Item in hand is +tool object: It's tool if you hold something after crafting.
2. Item in ground and it's permanent: It's always tool.
3. Item in ground and it's not permanent: It's tool if it will be permanent after crafting.
4. Attacking(Shift and RightClick) is always tool, include tattoo, snowball.
5. Use to person or self: It's not tool, include healing, or cut own cloths, put pad into apron.
Problem example:
Lasso is non permanent, but "Two Ropes" is permanent, so disassemble lasso is tool action.(Knife, Flint-tipped Bow Drill is same)
Attack to own family with War Sword is tool.
So I want to ask you, how do you think what is tool or not.
Or do you have some dissatisfaction of tools?

I don't think lighting a straight shaft on a kiln should learn the firing kiln skill.

I don't think "tongs" should be considered a tool. How much skill does it take to squeeze two sticks together?

I still think this stuff should all be grouped instead of every item being a tool since we're still having to get fixes for every single individual item.
I'd rant about it here but I've done it plenty and the bug list for tools was updated a night or two after the update went live.

most annoying for me is saving the main fire is considered learning the hot coals

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

And stick the object that tongs hold inside of a burning cauldron? Sure, holding the tongs may be easy. Putting them inside where flames are flying out sounds like another story.

But don't you learn tongs skill just by picking up the tongs? The kiln itself is a separate tool.

If people use tong who unlearn that, maybe tong will be burned because its wooden!!
(I really see tong as chopstick, yes, chopstick is skill, my kids isn't complete learning it and take more times to learn it)

My mistake. Forgot about that.

Personally, I would much rather see a skill system that focuses on professions, rather than tools. It doesn't make sense to me that adding kindling to hot coals is considered the same skill as frying an egg or heating up black dye or cooking a rabbit. They all use the same "tool", but they aren't drawing on the same skill-set or even particularly skill-based.

It sounds like an easy fix for lasso would be to make two-ropes non-permanent?
Doesn't get at the more general problem of course. A larger catalog of examples and counter-examples may be useful.

Pretty sure you only learn tongs as a tool once you pick up something with the tongs, say a clay plate.
I don't think lighting a straight shaft on a kiln should learn the firing kiln skill.
I might be wrong, but I'm fairly certain lighting a kiln doesn't take up a tool slot. I know that stuffing it with adobe for charcoal and putting something in the kiln does. Still imo stuffing the kiln with adobe shouldn't take up a tool slot either.
For the time being, I think we have enough content.

Perhaps it has been fixed. But last time I played, you learned tongs as soon as you touched the damn things.
Same with lighting a kiln with a branch or rekindling a fire.

Rekindling a fire definitely still takes up a tool slot, but last I checked the other two were fixed.

Lasso is non permanent, but "Two Ropes" is permanent, so disassemble lasso is tool action.
Same for bow saw, if you put it back to box game consider it as tool action.

This happened to me once when I only had a single tool slot left. Boy, that was a fun bug to discover while trying to finish an important project. I just about threw my monitor across the room when I realized that I'd hit zero slots. So freaking stupid.
