Car usage and oil scarcity

The problem lies that oil, due to tap out radius is just to scarce for luxury items such as cars to be used. Since oil is not abundant and scarce it’s only ever going to be used on the well. You said yourself that you want people to trade off water for a car but water is necessary  while  a car isn’t. On top of that oil can only be gotten by a certain type of people who need to know how oil is got (aka only vets). If oil is abundant enough maybe it could be used for leisure items such as the car but for now the scarcity will never see the car used.

Re: Car usage and oil scarcity

Better yet, change the output from the fractional distiller so it provides petroleum by-products.

We will gather crude oil to get kerosene to run the water pump and in the process, accumulate various other useful materials, like gasoline for cars and tarr for asphalt roads.

Since you get both gasoline and kerosene, you do not need to choose between driving around in a car or gather water to live.   You can do both!

Re: Car usage and oil scarcity

Water, iron, and oil are extremely co-dependent right now.   Once you reach the late game, oil is water/iron.   Using oil for anything else is a waste, but if we had access to abundant oil, it would be readily converted to free water/iron, removing scarcity and resource pressure completely.

By splitting out different types of oil products and fuel,  oil remains a rare and valuable resource.   The fuel used for water/iron production can be kept separate from the fuel used to run cars or planes.   And new products, like heavy oil, paraffin wax, and tarr could be added quite easily.

I really liked this idea but Jason said he wanted to have a trade off and making a byproduct would eliminate the trade off so he said no to this idea. He further implied more nerfs on horses were on their way. So more limitations in the future ig. I hope this game doesn’t die off because of all the restrictions I really do love it.

Jason also said he would never let us be born back to the same village.  And that he hates magic solutions.   And that every life should be unique.

I've learned that it is a lot more fun to propose ideas if you ignore what Jason has said in the past and just think about how to make the game better right now.

Yea sadly Jason usually listens to himself and not widespread popular opinions. But I truly does hope he expands on the end game and makes the game more enjoyable

Re: Car usage and oil scarcity

the car doesn't worth it, lets nerf horse damn so dumb

and cars are still one way trip to get lost since most people are filling it once and run it until it goes
if they don't work as a boomerang, it won't work. One o my ideas was that cars could only be used on connected roads, so even if you lose it, it's still usable by someone somewhere. Resource-based work modes won't work if you can't guarantee that the used up resources worth less than the advantages it provides. It's like running a lamborghini to get milk. Not even useful and not even a requirement to have cars so it's an expensive toy that 90% of people can't use properly.

A bit unrelated to cars, but possibly the introduction of plastic materials with longer polymer chain byproducts, if oil becomes more abundant?
