I was on vacation for a few weeks, and then the wildfires came. Here's the current smoke plume map as of today:
Now we're hiding out in Arizona for a while, where the smoke is thinner. That dark "finger" on the left of the map pretty much covers the state of California, and Davis is right in the middle of that. People haven't been able to see the sky there for days.
Hopefully, it will clear by the end of this week, and we can head back home.
Interactive map is here:
The LNU fire, which is pretty close to Davis, covers 341,243 acres, and is currently only 17% contained.
That's 533 square miles. Kinda boggles the mind.
Meanwhile, I'm almost done with my vacation project, which is much easier to work on remotely (no paper, no scanner, no native builds on a bunch of different computers):

Crazy, didn't realize the US was on fire.
Stay safe.

Stay safe Jason.

Jeez, that's awful. I hope you and your family stay safe.
I'm Slinky and I hate it here.
I also /blush.

Must be all the smoke you've been blowing out of your ass for the past 2 years.

I've seen the smoke for the last 4 days where I live. Didn't think the fires were getting that serious until yesterday.
I would definitely say stay there until it dies down a bit.
Stay safe in Arizona, and stay inside and drink a ton o water (get a purifier though, their water tastes like ass). That place is even hotter than where I live, and I've been melting this month. August is supposed to be our monsoon season, but so far nothing.
Arizona is still better than a bunker though, so hey it could be worse.

I'm flying high. But the worst is never first, and there's a person that'll set you straight. Cancelling the force within my brain. For flying high. The simulator has been disengaged.

Yikes. We're all happy here to grab our pitchforks and torches when appropriate but you ever think this might not be right time for it?
I think Jason has bigger issues than appeasing random people on the internet right now.

You know when you see an opportunity you just can't pass up. Ya'll probably secretly laughed.

My immediate reaction was "Jesus, what is wrong with you."
Timing is very important for good comedy. That comment just makes you sound like an insensitive jerk.

About time something interesting happened here anyway.

Hope you’re able to return safely Jason.
For the time being, I think we have enough content.

Grim, what part of the US are you in? I'm pretty sure you've told me in the past, but I've forgotten...
And Fug, according to the smoke plume map, this crap has made it all the way to The Heart of It All, where you live in Ohio!
Definitely the worst US wildfires in my lifetime....

Tell me about it, I swear, first the world was metaphorically on fire now it is literally on fire, lets hope our fire fighters can deal with all of this...

Same here in Central Indiana.
2020 has been a bad year all around.. Hoping 2021 brings better days, but the way it's looking, it's doubtful.

I read it's bad, from sites dedicated to it, but it isn't even making it on the news of the television I walk past 10-20 times a day, which is always playing CNN unless Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune is on.
The moisture from the Atlantic is keeping most of the dust and soot out of the air for the eastern half of the United States.

now it is literally on fire
For one, this happens every year in California, and elsewhere on Earth, if people don't like the state they can just geet out. Same for the planet.
For two, every home - nearly every home, on EARTH, has at least one fire burning in it to heat it's water, on top of that, every car, every business, every industry.... all burning wood, gas, coal and petroleum.
WE ARE ALWAYS ON FIRE AND ALWAYS WILL BE

Well yes I do know that California catches fire every year... (especially cause I live there) but that is expected especially if you see California's land scape, most of California are rolling hills, which are filled with dead grass for like 90% of the year, and the parts which aren't filled with grass are filled with thick evergreen forests that need to burn down to reproduce.
but the big problem is that these fires are getting bigger and bigger every year, the 2019 fires were bigger then the 2018 fires and so on, which I won't blame it on anything buuutttt... cough... Global Warming... cough cough
so maybe one day we will all need to stop burning wood, gas, coal and petroleum, so that they will stop burning us

Vegas Vegas Vegas. Definitely haven't seen that same level of smoke today or yesterday, and your map confirms it.

Is this graph supposed to prove or disprove global warming?
Or warn us of the impending ice age?

I remember a long time ago suggesting that certain items in OHOL be flammable and that wildfires be a possibility as a result. Perhaps you will reconsider implementing such things and let us commiserate virtually with you and your family Jason. Stay safe.

I am imagining life in OHOL after a wildfire wipes out all the juniper trees within 12,000 tiles of your village ...
