Half the leaders are brand new players and don't even understand their position.
Why should genetic score be the only factor in become leader?
Shouldn't we take time played into account?
Leader should be picked based on genetic score and must have 30 or more hours of gameplay.

Just remove the leadership system. It was a poor machanic to begin with.
Offline
So anyone can stab anyone?
Explain why leadership should be removed.

It was a lot easier dealing with griefers when you could just stab them and keep weapons in the hands of trustworthy folk. Having to chase around the leader asking them to exile someone is stupid. Especially when you have to explain it in detail to new players who dont understand the system.

How much have you played with the new system?
I've found it better.

I think I agree on this, that time played could be another factor, which might improve things. Then again, some griefers also have a long time played, so I'm not quite so sure how this would balance out.

X amount of play time + High meme score. Just bar anyone without so many hours from gaining leadership or whatever. There’s no reason someone with 3 hours played should be getting leadership as they don’t even know much more than the basics lol.

New system = less killing, more frustration
Griefers can do a ton of damage before you can organize people to kill them. Was much simpler to chase them off with a knife or shoot them as soon as you saw them misbehaving. Griefers killing someone and being killed was annoying but in principle it was the same as two people SIDing. Scrapping an engine or driving off with a truck is far more harmful. Those forms of griefing really only gained popularity once leadership/kill mechanics were added.
Offline
The problem is that just killing griefers was useless and still is. They respawn in a new town and keep on griefing. We were just playing hot-potato with serial murderers.
There's no real consequence for being a total shitter in OHOL, so killing or cursing has little real effect on the level of griefing that you experience in-game. It's been a problem from the beginning and hasn't really been solved by any of the changes to the curse system or combat system.
There needs to be a way to stop the cycle of grief by permanently banning repeat offenders.

Temp bans like the old donk town would probably be more effective tbh. The current one is ok but its has a lot of holes in it. Not surprising since it was developed in the rift and hasnt seen much adjustment since. Killing griefers does play a minor role though. I agree its not much but it does stop with behavior instantly and forces them to respawn and wait before they can do anything again. If its killing they're after they'll have yo wait quite a while before they can do it again each time. In that sense its valuable. Saves time while wasting theirs. The current system just wastes everyones time while promoting more harmful forms of griefing.
The one real fix to griefing is to give them an actual outlet like tarr suggests. Something where those players thats inclient towards that style of play can have a role and have fun. While not being a detriment to society or inclined to self sabotage.
Thats not an easy option to find but i honestly think war is the best we have. Wars were common in the rift. They could suck. But it forced people to fight and defend themselves often. It gave players that were inclined towards that playstyle and outlet on both end. Fight for the benefit or safety of your family. In fighting was rare and because most players had to be combat skilled to survive back then it was often squashed quickly.
Not saying that was good system but it was a system we had that I honestly prefered over the resource griefing we have now. 'Killer' player types exist in any game and they will find their outlet however they can. Clubs can be annoying, yes, but they are a good portion of any playerbase. Removing them isnt an option. We need to respect they are a part of this game and try to give them something thats more fun and less harmful to do.

I disagree. But it is kind of a moot point, since nothing is likely to change or get fixed around here.

In real life this is called jail, or death.
That be good content, a freaking jail to lock them in.

Fun fact - The idea of jail for griefers has come up more than once ... and one of the first people to consider it was the game dev himself. Jason never liked the curse system because it is a "magic" solution and he wanted everything to evolve naturally within the game, even punishment and justice. Instead, he envisioned village police watching for trouble-makers and a village-run prison system as a way to deal with griefers in game. In fact, he added blue dye to the game in the hopes that we would make police uniforms. It never happened for a variety of reasons, but I find it amusing that he even considered real jails as a legit option.

I stand with this.
1500 hours in this game and the new leader system just doesnt work. Or its in hands of someone who doesnt understand it or has power fantasy issues.
Just quit the game for a week cause some people decided that they need the lumber from my contstruction for nursery floor and grieffed all my flooring. Made like 200 goose for the city and i get griefed by the same town. In old days i could just stab the moron stealing my boards, now i have to negotiate and explain for one life before i can get back to my thing. Instead of wasting life to talk i just decide to not play.

You know ... talking to people used to be an important part of this game. Kind of sad that you would rather kill people than ask them to stop doing something that bothers you.
Conflict resolution shouldn't involve murder for the sake of expediency.

Jason needs to make a Taser.
Same range as a bow but non-lethal.
Target can then be picked up and moved to jail.
Be cool to have cops in OHOL.
Pretty sad when the last girl in your family is a griefer.
This way you just throw them in jail and they can't even hurt themselves.

Yea i imagine the taser and jail would never be used nefariously...
Jail wont work because, just like killing, its a double edged sword that can be used by those with either good or bad intentions.

Tell this to every war ever
I dont understand why people want to have ohol be this utopian world. Ide much rather it be as close to real life as possible. Who says humans have ever been good by nature? Just look at our history as a species.

Regarding realism, is it actually that realistic to murder someone because talking wastes too much time? That's not a utopian ideal. That's just expecting normal civilized behavior instead of power-gaming.
If someone takes my stapler at work, I don't beat them to death with a toner cartridge ... even if that is the only way to be completely sure it won't happen again. I find a less violent solution.

You speak of ohol like its supposed to be grounded in morals and values of modern society. When its more akin to a lawless wild wasteland filled with people desperate to survive. In an environment like that you might be surprised by what you would do. Imagine if you had spent half your lifetime working on something only to have it stolen from you.

When your only tools are knives, and bows.
Every problem is solved by killing.
Unlike in the real world, you can't beat the crud out of someone, which is what should happen to certain people early on in their life.
Now we live in some distopian future where people don't even discipline their kids. Creating tons of entitled griefer Karens.

Jason should add punching. I want to settle my disputes with fisticuffs. We could vent our fury without killing - Loser gets a big goose egg and sixty seconds of unconsciousness to reconsider their life choices. Winner gets bragging rights.

Introduce new top-tear items: Boxing Gloves, Boxing Shorts, Silk Robe.
Requires co-operation from all families to craft the set.
Has no impact on gameplay.

I've found it that its easier to out work griefers than negotiate with em. Stabbing was nice fast solution.
