Hetuw just makes the game too easy and gives an unfair advantage. It also has a feature called Phex that allows players to communicate whenever they want, no matter where they are. This isn't fair towards people who want to play the game normally, as it gives them less power than those who play using Hetuw. Before Hetuw, something that played a major part in the immersion of the game was the low visibility. When you can see everything you want to see and find everything you want to find, it makes the game boring. And to those who say, 'Just uninstall it then,' that gives you an unequal advantage over me. In Hetuw, you can see anywhere you want to see, while in the base game, you can only see in the direction your player is moving or was last moving in... I think you can see why Hetuw is an issue.

Moving back to the topic of Phex chat; Phex allows players to talk anywhere at any time without need for tech advancement. This basically ruins the part of the game where you must work together and overcome the limitations of limited communication. Hetuw also has a tile marking system allowing you to save any location and know where it is to the very tile. This mod to the game is basically giving you technology that doesn't exist in the game and overall, I think it ruins it.

I dont use hetuw or phex and I refuse to cuz I agree with everything you said here. I don't really understand why Jason has not only allowed but endorsed these mods. I understand that the game is open source, so people can do whatever they want, but I'm sure that if someone made an actual cheat client that let you fly across the map instantly, Jason would do something about it. But, for whatever reason, he allows people to see the entire map and talk to everybody in the whole server.

I don’t use a zoom mod because I’ve found it does change the feel. And because I can’t emphasize with new folks. I want to be able to see what they see so I can help at their level. The same with phex. If I don’t practice what’s easiest to type and still get the message across, I won’t get better at it.

I do use a modded client, though (Wondible). I like the keyboard actions. There are some location helpers, too.

Even though I know some people play with those tools, I don’t feel at a disadvantage. I think, particularly because I don’t see myself in competition with everyone else.

But I do feel that to some degree we’re playing different games. For me it still feels 95% the same, and it doesn’t distract me from having fun.

He just wants to get Hetuw removed because he likes to troll everyone, and everything.

GL Jason keeping this game alive if you remove it, and don't add WASD controls and a zoom feature.

Every town would be doomed.

You would instantly lose 50% of players and 100% of the vets.

vanilla is pretty fun, if you're not dealing with having to watch for someone trying to make their psychological disorder everyone in the random pixel games problem. Most people with zoom when they're just casually playing don't sit at max zoom. It's for either watching town to check for hijinks or finding stuff when wandering in wilderness. (stuff people dump, oil wells thousands of tiles out, nonrenewable forages like wild garlic)

good point "Laggy" I'm sure shady made my account when he was 10 years old just in case he needed to troll people on the forums in 3 years.

anyway I've changed my opinion on phex, it still feels cheaty and off to me but I understand now that it's kind of necessary to combat the whole griefer situation

14 year old learns that there are consequences to being an asshat to people online. Hopefully once your curses expire you’ll be able to return and see how cringe it was trolling people in a family civ building game.

Jason already gave his thumb up to modded clients, if he didn’t like them he would have put a stop to them a long time ago. My recommendation is to go mow a yard or two, feed Jason another 20 and try to behave better in the future. If not, see previous step and repeat until you’ve learned or until Jason stops taking your money.

I care about phex and not about griefing. In the grand scheme of things removing phex would harm both parties.
