This week's update involves a lot of maintenance and tweaking.
Decay times have been increased dramatically along with tool usage counts, but the tool usage engine has also been overhauled to fix some bugs and inconsistencies, and also to switch to a semi-random breakage model.
For example, an ax can be used 100 times on average, and goes through four use states, with an average of 25 uses per state (1/25 chance of advancing to the next state). Worst case, which would occur once in about 400,000 axes, would be an ax that can only be used 4 times. Contrast this with a purely random usage model where the ax has a 1/100 chance of breaking. We'd still expect 100 uses on average, but we'd also expect an ax that breaks on the first use to happen once in 100 axes, which would be a frustratingly high rate.
Various natural resources have been tweaked, and a new way to deep mine exhaustible iron ore has been added.
Also, for those of you who might have missed it, a new Eve placement algorithm is live, which you can read about here:

The plan for next week is solid content creation. I'm hoping to take a break from programming and tweaking next week. And signs are coming.

I know people been waiting for signs for a while. Personally I am not sure how well they will work, since it depends on people paying attention to them but anything to try and improve communication is a good thing.

Yay, maybe he did read something I said. Ty
Really good job on those tools.

Cool!
I like to go by "Eve Scripps" and name my kids after medications

Man, and we were just getting used to mass producing tools so the civilization can keep afloat, leaning away from using baskets entirely, and telling our kids to read the wiki so we didn't have to teach them.
Now we have much tougher tools? Baskets last twice as long? And signs so we can finally pay respects to the fallen who made a notable mark on the civilization?
What is this? Where are the negatives that Jason has conditioned us to expect and conquer?
Oh.
People can grief to no end by planting saplings on dirt. And they don't even grow into trees.
I mean, wheat, milkweed, and berries are acceptable to just randomly plant. but so many resources for a SINGLE skewer?
(maybe can plant multiple saplings on single plot, or domesticated saplings grow back.).. eh. maybe saplings should rarely grow near trees every few hours.

Thank you SO much for making things decay slower and making tools last longer! That will make my experience, at least, much better. Also really looking forward to signs!
I know you said that next week you'll be focused on new things, not tweaks, which is GREAT, but I also hope at one point you'll let us salvage some materials from decaying items, like kindling from baskets or steel from an axe.

You get half the steel back from broken tools.

I very much like this idea, particularly if the frequency is related to the tree type. And then if saplings grow into trees, you have the very realistic problem that the forest eventually encroaches on your cleared land.

Stanchion kit for three ore and one stone? Seriously? Why even bother adding stuff if it's too shitty for any rational player to actually bother with?

It's definitely not intended to be used unless you've used all the surface ore in the area. Definitely worth it if you're out of iron ore. You lucked out getting 3 ore, but I didn't do much better with 5.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop Jason. Looking forward to the new stuff and also the changes you added.

Nah, it's definitely not worth it. Just grab a cart with four baskets and find a new stone biome. You'll get at least 10 times more ore per minute than if you fiddle with this shitty mine.

Yes, it may need to be tweaked a bit.
Sometimes you get a good one, though... should be 10 iron on average.

Also, did you not enjoy getting a very useful stone out as the last yield from your mine?
I'm assuming that you are out of those stones....
This is like Charlie Brown going trick-or-treating, people.
