I made a map of the roads and current known areas that have coordinates on server3.
if you are on server3 feel free to use it sometime especially if you find a road.
here's a google doc showing some of the major structures at locations (use them to find out where you are):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KA3 … sp=sharing
if you dont know how to join server 3:
you can join the server by changing 2 files in the settings folder:
useCustomServer - change the 0 to a 1
customServerAddress - change localhost to server#.onehouronelife.com
# = the mainserver you want (with this map its 3 so server3.onehouronelife.com)
if you want to play normally again just change the 1 back to a 0

Damn that's awesome!
I started the Milkyway. The road continues more to the south until the desert biome. There's a lot of bunnies there and I'm hoping someday will be a settlement there, tried to make a clothing industry in the Milkyway but was always running low on furs.
Also the road on Midgar goes to the west into the badlands last time I checked.

Awesome! How did you get the background? Is it random or did you scrub the server data somehow?
Offline
That is wild. How does one know which server they're in?

you can find to biome map here:
http://bream.chardsville.uk/OneLifeMap/
it should be the same for all servers

I was born in milkyway the day after we made Utopia and connected it to Midgard @Milkman that where I got the names for the villages from you. You told me the name of the villages we created with the guys! When I was born in MilkyWay it was a prosperous fur trading place. It is now a ruin waiting to be rebuild though. and someone destroyed ALL the milkweed.....

I was in the clothing industry settlement several times... I wonder what it calls...

Somebody told me the Utopia name but was surprised to see the Midgard I came up with stick too lol! The villages come and go, Utopia is either full of carts with carrots or with graves everywhere, same with Midgar and the bear attacks. Sad to hear about the milkweed, if that keeps happening we'll run out of soil fast.

this is incredible. does anyone have pictures of the centers of these settlements? to sorta reference and know which is which when you encounter them in-game?
it also might be cool to sorta spell out the settlements first letter with bones. i know i did that with an X at a couple places (before knowing their name)
Offline
Bones will decay and disappear before too long! I'd love to see some kind of signage, but one-item-per-tile would make for a pretty massive plot of land to spell out much of anything.
That map view is amazing. All those little villages, signs of life in the wilderness. You can't help but imagine a night view, with the little fires lit showing where the people are settled.
Offline
ooo yea, night would be cool. all it'd take is some better colors, more emphasis on settlements, less on biome colors...
for signage, i'm not sure what makes the best evergreen "pixel" at the lowest cost (maybe round stones?), but if we keep it to certain characters, we could get away with a 3x3 grid. OR we just names things a single unique letter.
3x3 for a city called "TOH":
XXX XXX X X
X X X XXX
X XXX X X
I've worked it out and it seems the only characters that work on a 3x3 are: C H I J L O T U X Y (and maybe P, F but could be confusing)
CHI, HOL, TOH, XOL, JIX, YOC, OIL, etc. etc. there's enough there to make unique names but they may be confusing to tell apart since the alphabet is so small.
a 5x5 grid would work for most characters if we use single character, so like Milkyway would be:
X X
XX XX
X X
X X
of course that'd mean we'd need to rename some cities to start with unique letters.

You can do a reasonable font for English characters with a 3x4 font, eg:

sure sure, but spelling out whole words might take a bit too much real-estate/resources for now... also communicating the font might be tough
Offline
Oooh that's nice!
Tell me more about roads.

The reason the biome colours are the way they are is because we've been using biomes to wayfind. If you spawn outside of the mapped villages you can take a look at the biomes you have around you and find yourself anywhere in that tiny piece of the world. Its how we mapped the cities and its how we keep adding villages to the map.

I have updated the map and added a google doc showing major structures at locations.

How about marking settlements with "code name buildings", made up for 3 or 4 Wall elements next to each other.
Since a wall segment can be Corner/Up/Down it offers 3 states per element.
Maybe such "name site" buildings could be made in a certain way to show that they are supposed to be the "name site" of a settlement, possibly with a short wall segment above them.
Examples : ( o is the corner element )
o----o
o|--
o----o
-|o|
o----o
oooo
Maybe this could be extended to be "area codes" made up of just 3 elements. Or the other way around, be "city codes" 3 elements and "area codes" 4 elements.
Granted, it would take effort not to get name collisions with other places, hmm.
Something along those lines.
I hope this makes sense

I remember that there's a way to find out how many people are logged in a specific server, also, which one is the default server? Server 1?

just updated the map adding 4 villages

Gotta get some maps of the other servers
Most of the people in that organised this map have decided not to make one for other servers. Server3 is the server where we meet up with eachother to try and build a big society. However we want to keep the core game experience on the other servers (We dont wan't people to Metagame everywhere)
TLDR: There will most likely not be a map for the other servers out of respect for the games core principles of just not knowing where and to who you are born.

One-line farm continues to thrive, despite being a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Most of the other settlements are intermittently inhabited, there was a brief milkweed revolution at Farmer's Peak and a murder spree, whatever happened they started farming carrots again after that.
Places like Utopia and Midgard are essentially large garbage piles with substantial floor and wall space, but no purpose to the buildings. Their advanced forges have spread tools throughout the land. Box Eden is a pie factory. I did not respawn in the east at all, which leads me to believe there is extremely low level of habitation in the eastern sites. Perhaps once over two days have I seen the Cradle.
Traveling when you grow up is fun. You should see how many cities you can visit, and update our google doc with your screen shots.

What are the roads? People really built continuous wooden floor or is just cut down trees?
Offline
wooden floors. quality roads take some time to make (continous wooden floors with no gaps). there are less quality roads (continous wooden floors with gaps) like ruinian to utopia but the best quailty are utopia to midgard and utopia to eves cradle.
If you want you can work to improve the quailty of the roads or build a quality road between places (one line farm is popular lately but has no quality roads)
