I'm not sure where this idea started but it's a good one.
(9 months is 3/4 of a year = 45 seconds is 3/4 of a minute)
A 45 second pregnancy where the Eve is noticeably pregnant, and has those 45 seconds to decide if she wants to have that baby with the option to abort/miscarry without penalty. At the same time the unborn player has those 45 seconds to view the perspective of the Eve and decide if they want to be born into that life, also with the option to abort/miscarry without penalty.
This should help alleviate the baby suicide and abandonment issue.

Sounds cool, bit annoying to have to wait 45 seconds is all. I don't suicide myself unless I am born without a Mom then I go for a snake/wolf/bear to have a goal instead of starving out.

That 45 second view screen could also have some basic gameplay instructions so that new players aren't quite so confused when starting out. Since the game updates so often it would be nice to have a notice about what's new - that would keep it from being boring for veteran players.

I think I would be bored with it by the 2nd or third time. Waiting periods also tend to generate afk people as well.

Don't you find it more of a waste of time to be born into a situation that you don't want to play in? I find it somewhere between boring and frustrating to be abandoned or have to suicide over and over. Being the child to a noob Eve who has no clue what they are doing is torture.

If you really don't like it just quit out instead of starving. That or help your Mom.

its still happening, just takes seconds, someone click get born and server decides you are the mother. so good idea, lets say at 14 you are pregnant cause most cases you get your first kid, i would like to be later on as an eve cause most often you need a place and mark it, which takes 5 minutes even, feels so bad to let them go, but you have to, you might get separated, and later when you want some, no one comes
mother side, deciding to get aa baby or not, could be implemented, by adding a new non renewable plant, this would mean eves and travelers could use contraceptives, big cities not really
baby side, you would have to watch the selected mom for45 sec, or 1 mintue, wouldnt be that bad, maybe you would see higher map zoom
if one baby rejects the other ones would join in, this wouldnt be so realistic, but pregnancy could last longer, like infinite, if no baby wants you would go away, if first one wouldnt decide in 30 sec, next would join up, some sound notification and animation could be played, to signal that new babies are on wait list. but this beeing said, older moms should be preferred, and lover population per X tiles
Also if you fed your own kid in last minute, you would not get pregnant again, until you didnt feed anymore/ its big enough to eat.

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

i feel like this feature would be a bit redundant because it only adds additional steps to what is already happening in the game.
if a player is born somewhere they don't want to be, they'll just run off within the first few seconds of being born-- press the abort button. if a mother doesn't want a kid, she'll just keep moving-- pressing the abort button.
it won't feel any better to be aborted than to be abandoned, and a baby aborting themselves won't feel any better than a kid running off.
plus, once you're in the game you already have to wait a few minutes before you're actually able to do anything but waddle around, adding close to another minute to that window wouldn't be super engaging.
not to mention i don't think the game itself is really supposed to be about picking and choosing where you end up, your quality of life is supposed to depend on the situation you're born into. i mean some people do play it that way and that's fine, but there's not a lot you can do to force people to stop playing how they want.
however, the benefits from this could be that the mother knows a baby is coming and can prepare herself, and also wayyyyy fewer graves littered all over the place.

Only thing I can think of is making them earn better Moms by surviving.

no, it makes al lthe differene, some people keep al lthe kids with 6 carrot farms 1 bowl and no tools, they would rehject kids, if you ask them to, but they are light hearted idiots, who "give everyone a chance" to die at age 4 affter eating more and mroe reserves from peopel who want kids but know they ae too many
the animation is also helping
if they reject you for beeing poor, would reject you anyway, this saves them time, they stil lneed to circle trough
i dont keep kids if i dont have a chance to give them food, give them clothes and have a decent life for them
once a niece picked two kids of mine i wanted to abandon, when she was close to having on her own
this was stupid, seeing my unnamed daughter as a naked carrotmonger near the farm all game, was it worth it?
this could also prevent you from getting suididers, corpses, moms who dont want anyone, they might still abandon you for beeing male
worst is when they waste my time 4 minutes just to see that their camp is a kiln in green biome and i starve anyway

Personally I like this idea solely because once you get the first sign of being pregnant you can actually take some step to finish what you are doing and get to an okay location. Currently, if you are in the wilderness with a basket you either have to ditch the basket or ditch the baby, or kind of manage both and perhaps risk starving to death.
