Extend knife use

When settlement goes and becomes a village or city, big hard rocks are gone, sharp stone less and less present and people have more and more knife, I wonder if we could extend the use of the knife. Sometimes I need the sharp stone for some things that could be remplaced by knife such as cutting wild plants or cutting wood shafts into straight shaft. So I think that could be great thing for it.

Smart, but tricky. Maybe you could make a knife that can't kill, but does everything else.

Knife can cut wheat and tons of other stuff you already asking for

tell kids to use flints to cut reed or wheet, that really helps, other than that, just have somebody to bring back some sharp stones and skewers, truth is, kids dont even know what to do, and if you got only one sharp stone to mash food into bowl and one round to make flour, then already too bad. at least sharp stone can make like 23 recipes possible, so as a starter pack each kid should receive a sharp stone and a basket

That is the thing : there are crafts that knife could easily remplace. Does It never bother you that you have to use sharp stone when you could simply use knife ? Because I do. Ik sharp stone is really usefull and you can do many thing but we wont stick to the stone age during all the tech tree. All I'm asking are few natural crafts such as :
- Can cut wildcarrots and burdock, like sharp stone
- Can turn branche into shaft, like the sharp stone
- Can turn rope back into thread if needed.

That would be neat

Steel blade blank + short shaft = unrefined knife ?
Unrefined knife + steel file = cleaver

Cleaver : does knife job but can't stab people and sheep?

I think increasing the usefulness of knives would improve the meta. Imagine everyone having a knife because they were more useful than sharp stones? I think it'd go a long way to making griefing harder in larger towns.

I think this should be implemented. I mean how many of us today use a sharp stone to cut vegetables? Noone. Because we all have knives. It's a part of societal progression. If everyone has a knife it's harder to kill someone with a knife because they can kill you too so what happens? You make a longer one. Enter the sword. And that is just one small part.
Cutting wheat with a knife is doable but if you have a large farm it is difficult to gather it all up in time. So came the sythe to harvest larger areas. So on and so forth.
And if we still need to mash things we use a hammer or a mortar and pestle or even a blender. No one goes outside to find a rock in order to make jelly.

Yeah you right. Would be nice if knife did more stuff.
It would also mean more knives around, which is fun in it's own special way.
