Errors people do in medium/big cities and possible solutions

Every time i spawn in bigger cities, which got tools and at least some carts, i see the same errors and hope people read this and think about what im going to write now

-oven near the kiln or forge
just dont. just because they are made out of same material, they dont belong together, kilns are used to make plates and bowls, charcoal, maybe use as a forge, ovens can be almost anywhere as pies can be put in basket before making, but ideally set up ovens between sheep, wheat and some water source
-dont take bowls and plates from forge. keep at least 3-4 each so they can make crucible any time, make charcoal and place in bowls to signal this
-no clutter, what you dont need, dont put in middle of city, only put together items with similar purpose, furs dont need to be near farm or oven, even if you cook rabbit, make a new fire dont use the main fire, thats for babies and lighting up oven/forge
-keep one fire alive, all the time. not on desert, not next to desert, one tile space at least all direction. helps babies and forging, pie making. people can stop inside it, and run longer distance, talk a bit without losing many calories. Keep firewood near and kindling.
-ask what is needed, dont just jump into things. if you cant do other, just bring branches, clay  and leave next to kilns, bring wild food, but usually you need to help on most advanced things, pen, compost, berry bowls
-pie making is not essential! dotn focus on it until you dont have an axe, tools, carts. milkweed farm and berry planting is very important for future generations, pie making from wild wheat is slow and doesnt worth it in small batches. also taking firewod from forge delays axe making, filling all bowls and plates blocks tool making. Make clay plates and stack up pies. only make 4 at a time on your own clay plate. this way you dont have half bowls of dough, people need to use the bowls.
-bring back the plates and the tools! yes sharp stone is a tool with 23 recipes and kids are more likely to survive and enjoy your city if they get a sharp stone at least. plates are just essential, for making pies, and forging. better swap foraa full pie if going long distance, dont leave it there.
-prepare for future. as a baby you dont like when you are ignored or you die early, so dont do it to others either. have a nice word, feed a kid, ask help. can mean a world to someone to assure him that he is helpful. give him a small task and thank him/her.
plant bushes and milkweed, this is second generations job, bring soil, as much as possible. listen to your smith, help him. axe making is priority and you can survive with a backpack of carrot.
-dont take rope or berry carrot from the pen, dont take the bow or arrow, its a precise time sensitive effort, if you see an empty pen, but someone is working on it, this things are essential for him to bring sheep, dont even move a thing, he comes back hungry with a lamb on rope, dont mess him up. also if you dont see any of this tools, bring it inside pen
-dont make clothes, only backpacks, maybe you need to eat less but furs are limited, let others have packs at least, they might be good players, dont make rabbit shawls or shirts, find a seal. make pouches and loin cloth maybe.even reed skirts are better as they take a rope but last for generations.
-dont overfarm. once all the baskets filled, and you got two baskets per person, just dont water farm if you not intend to pick it out, even so when everythign is full of carrot, take 2 minutes break to make baskets or compost.
-starter packs for babies:
they need a basket with either a bowl or snare, a sharp stone  and a carrot. make your own home marker as woman before picking any kid up, this way they inherit the marker. place it behind a tree, as it takes up one tile, people can cut it and if you dont make one, all your kids have to make one.
-start a small sappling farming if you got compost, or bring back a few in baskets, have a dedicated home marker spot, possibly storage for food, this way people eat there arriving from distance, can talk a bit, sharing what is where
-wells, ovens, kilns can form a wall, placing them strategically can help making a good looking big sheep pen out of it. also natural blocking tiles like cactus, ponds
-use flint chips to cut wheet or reet, never leave sharp stones far from camp, in green biome is accepable, but anywhere else gets lost or you force someone to bring it back
-bring back stones, plates, and arrange similar items near each other, keep some empty places near farms, near forge
-make basic tools for replacement, extra hatchet, bow drill, in a big city you might need one near oven and one near forge
-make some tools, take a pouch, a needle, a bowl, find a good spot with some water, and make a small outpost. if you got many sisters, this might help someone survive.  have some reserve seed. if population is more than 10 you need two of most things at least.
-think about others, they dont like it either that they cannot produce anything, tell directions, give tools, snares, bowls, tell them to get firewood, take out corpses, make free space, etc.
-if everything goes well, spend some time chatting and get to know people
-if you are a boy, ask a female to marry you, this is funny and all , but very practical, you take care of her and her kdis, she can make food for you or small tasks around camp, get you some ropes or baskets of carrot, etc. while you scout and hunt outside

lot of big cities tend to have clutter, no stones, skewers, baskets, sharp stones, only one oven/forge, only one farm only one pen, etc. you can make second of everything, just space out a bit

Re: Errors people do in medium/big cities and possible solutions

i am not sure if what players do wrong or when they cause frictions that those are actual errors
i rather think those are things players do who just don't care enough to be bothered to learn & those are not really new players, they just return to the game & dabble a little here & there & pave their way towards griefing without even knowing it tongue

the atmospehere of the game atm is rather that it's too hard to survive, to learn, it's easier to disturb & just to mess things up & to have fun this way, not really griefing but still unintentionally disrupting

i like mostly now to live as a male baby in a settlement & when i'm old enough
i care first for my immediate lone survival & then
as second i look for things i know are needed to sustain as settlement - pouches, baskets, pies, bowls, plates, carrots, seeds, backpacks, carts
usually among those necessities there is at least one of those needed, so my goal in that life is then clear, that's this one life's objective

Re: Errors people do in medium/big cities and possible solutions

sometimes is not clear what to do, sometimes it is just its too much of a grind and i rather do something different, like in other game i was full time potter, other time milkweed farmer, its still useful

pie and stuff is like old meta, people still think its viable, its not, its just luxury , even cactus farming is better, people still dont do it
some people are new-ish, they are used to put everything next to other thing and take anything from anywhere

we should create rooms to stop this but hey, who has the materials for that? but it happens to you, gonna happen to others, at least dedicate your childhood for maitenance

Baking can still be good when the shepards are working hard. Mutton pie rules

yes but makes no sense when they make pies as life goal from wild wheat and you barely got tools, and bowls

Great general guidelines. Only thing I disagree with is skewer farms. There's not really any acceptable time to make a skewer farm. If you want a sign, go forage for some skewers - it's not hard. You don't need anymore than 4 or 5 for your sheep pen, arrows, and other things. A town only needs 1 home marker (ideally in nursery next to rock and sharp stone), and 1 for other things.

There's few things worse than someone only making a few pies at a time. Unless you've got 12+ plates, you shouldn't even consider baking. BE A POTTER! Also, one average person can easily cook 12+ pies. We haven't actually tried, but with a single kindling, we've cooked more than 100 pies.

sheep pen doesnt need it, filled pits are better, kids can cut out the marker then pen is skrewed, even seen someone digging out the fence trying to get a dung, and if you got some extra soil, a skewer farm is very good in big cities
each woman needs a marker, if they dont make, each kids needs a marker, thats 30+, sadly thats the situation
1 is needed for goose or rabbit, but letters consume a lot, and lazy people who cannot forge and use skewers to the carrot farm

if you put pie baskets in 4 directions, everyone takes the ready ones and replaces with raw, tons of them can be made
also carry the crust into the pen and then you dont need carts to carry the mutton, can go into baskets

I thought everyone could share the same marker as long as each person cut it again and re-hammered it again?  I know when I’ve played in small groups that has been true, but I haven’t tested it in all possible combinations of players, generations etc.

i dont remember when it was that true. you can share if the eve sets it, but if its cut, everybody loses it. not sure if grandkids inherit, but people put it in so stupid positions, it will be cut anyway, i put mine behind trees, no one sees it, no one is disturbed, and they wont cut to hide a knife
