a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

Read about half of the suggestions before I thought of this, so sorry if you already said this. Maybe they could spawn in as Adam and Eve? It would make starting a civilization a lot easier because they can communicate and build at the same time.
I love the Adam and Eve idea!! If they are griefers they'd be ruining their own legacy and work. Helpful Eves or Adam's could actually have time to teach newborns while the other starts building the basics. If one of the pair dies and the other suicides it's not nearly as detrimental to the society as losing two kids you invested time and food into. If they are silent, who cares? There is so much work to do at the start, and chances are you'll have a brother or sister to help you out or talk with.
Two adults at the start may sound too powerful, but I dont think so. Food will be scarce quickly, and they still have to roam to find good land. Hell, you could start a nomadic family easier as well, Adam can help carry kids.
Only drawback I see is duo's getting tired of starting from scratch. Perhaps a spawn algorithm could solve this. An Adam and Eve finding another town could cause interesting trust mechanics. Players would know Adam's and Eve's are playing together, and would take caution accordingly.

That won't be OP. Rather seriously UP. Currently as Eve you have to run for first 5-10 minutes, until you find a spot that gives you any chance of successful settlement. Two people, at this stage obviously without home marker, would need to move very slowly, or they'll get lost. Direct comm wouldn't help them much with finding each other. Also this is one of the most boring parts of the game, based on 10% skill, 90% luck. I wouldn't want to introduce this game to a friend in this way.

I kind of see your point but I don't think it's that hard to find an area that can sustain 2 adults. As for getting lost I don't think it's that hard to follow another person and not wander too far if anything you can make a temporary Home markerAnd find each other that way.

True. But only if you don't plan to have kids.

I get lost all the time. Especially if me or the other person is in a rush (e.g. close to starving). You simply have no choice how far you need to wander off. And backpack full of pies is not standard spawned Eve's equipment.

Anyway, it looks like there's not a clearly winning solution here. Twins has too many draw-backs, I think. There are also loads of logistical headaches (like what happens if one player has already played in all the families recently and is on lineage ban, but the other is not?) and also server fullness issues (what happens if the reflector sends them to different servers for load balancing).
And Adam/Eve pairs would always be starting from scratch, which is a different game than this game. They'd get sick of it quickly.
This is not another opportunity to clamor for easier baby carrying. Babies are supposed to be a pain in the neck. That's why they say thank you and love you. If anything, being a parent is currently not interactive enough and a little boring (stand by fire and hold baby). Hopefully I'll think of some more things that a parent actually has to do in the future.
Anyway, tabling the "play together" idea for now. Will revisit later, maybe.

I love the idea!
If I was a rich town, obviously twins are easier. Suggestions:
- Give them to Moms who haven't given birth in a while
- More for older Moms (so they have time to establish)

Imagine what could happen if you played with your friend when the game is nearing the present at the time or the 90's / 2000's, imagine this possible situation where you are ordering food. "I'll have two Three Sisters Stews, a Chicken Bucket Large, a Minced Duck with extra Dip, a Number 7/11, Two Number 45's, one with Cheese, and a large Soda." Imagine if this could happen.
