I am so frustrated by all the bad players.
Look at any family tree, and you will see that like only 1 out 8 players don't starve to death in childhood.
You work so hard to master this game and there is an 80% chance your kid will be a moron. And if you luck out and get a good player for a kid, she has a 50% of being a boy. And of those that are girl and good, 50% will probably die from an honest mistake.
Just had to rant about these players who can't last more than 3 minutes after being weened.

Have you tried to teach them or give them simple tasks to do. They die because they have no idea how to play, Even the ones that respond with "N" when you ask them weather they are new.
Offline
They all say pro,
They all say easy,
They all say ok,
They all look confident but I always end up the old one

How many topics will be made to complain about this ? Learn things to people everytime you have occasions, and slowly players will improve. Now everytime i am on a specialized work in a town who have enough food,i take an apprentice, when you say at someone staying near your work "wanna learn how to make ...", half of the time (if not more) he just answer "yes". But often they will not ask themselves, we must take initiatives !

You can also ask for a helper. I always ask for someone to help hammer wrots or to pack crucibles.

To be fair as a toddler (or elder) a relatively small mistake or issue can cost you your life. Mum forget to tell you where the food is kept? Dead! Exploring around the outskirts of town and realize you don't have a homemarker? Dead! Someone took your sharp stone when gathering? Dead! Someone picked your emergency berry bush clean? Dead! Snake in farm? Dead! AND MOST COMMON OF ALL- Game lag? Dead!
Sure some of these are dumb mistakes, but the game is pretty unforgiving so even experienced players can make them easily.
Also as Dacen said, its up to you to teach other players! That is literally what this game is all about. I have definitely found that the amount of time I have put into instructing kids is directly proportional to how many survive. Like there has been several times when I've had new players live to old age while my experienced children died young, simply because I've let experienced players do what they like from a young age and as a result they haven't known important info (bear North, food here, we're running out of girls so no hunting etc).

I always leave my kids by the farm. I look them up the family tree and they died 2 minutes later. That means they have not even figured out eating. How do you die on a farm? I have been abondoned as a baby several times and still make it to adulthood.

If they are too dumb to eat they are too dumb to live.. Sad but true

Yeah, last time I was a woman I gave birth to four kids while I was taking care of the berry farm. Tons of berries. They all ran off as soon as they could pick things up and they starved to death. Well, one suicided as a baby, but the others should have been fine.

Same. Normally I get one to two good kids out of 8.

I don't think its stupidity that kills them, I think its impatience. There's so many players out there bitching about carrot sponges that the moment you can feed yourself I feel there's alot of unspoken pressure to help out immediately. You may have dropped the kid by the farm, but what state is the farm in? Is the water source nearby or are they going to die getting lost on the way to the well? Is there flint nearby for them to shuck corn with? Seeds? A working hoe? A player with just enough experience to notice something missing might kill themselves in their attempt to help out too young.
I've personally found that the kids I take time to reassure ("stay by farm until grown", "do this job when older", "don't die" etc etc) have a much higher survival rate. I myself have certainly made more effort to survive in lives where I've had a family member tell me my job is to stay alive. I think it actually serves a duel purpose of 1) telling the other player its ok to relax a little, and 2) it makes people actually want to stick around (I know I'm way less likely to get bored and take dumb risks when I'm playing with a nice family).
That's not to say that you will still keep every kid- there's still a chance you will get a very new (or just plain bad) player, but good communication can definitely up your kids chances of survival

Fuck man.. When it is my baby I usually remember to tell em where the important stuff is.
Sometimes I am just a local. I have to work onsite keeping us alive, always running here or there. I don't
always have time to explore myself.
Most towns now are RIGHT on top of the ponds, makes sense given the meta. Only thing is when I am just
trying to stay alive I don't get to explore.
One of my recent lives I took a basket and a sharp stone as our situation looked shitty and went out to try to
lighten the load on the farm by foraging. Every bush I saw was bare, people didn't even leave the solo berries
for the desperate foragers.. As I was about to starve I pass a lady with an empty basket </3 Of course the
berries behind her were bare too but turning around wasn't gonna work either.
Can be rough.

Tried that on my last game, out of 9 kids only ONE wasn't stupid. Half of them said they weren't new but kept jumping out of my arms and the rest overate. One daughter ate every berry on one bush in a minute.
Most annoying was when the one daughter that got to breeding age kept feeding her first son til she died, less than a minute before we got the farm and kiln started
Offline
Well we will see. I had a ton of kids. Two told me Q when they were born. Neither made it. My daughter didnt listen and ran to the woods to grab something and lost her daughter somewhere. So in about another 20 we should know.
I had a 10 x 10 berry farm corn on the ground and starting milkweed when i died. More food than we needed. Here is a link http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … &id=246753
I hope she has another girl that can eat berries and have kids. My two other sons did great thougb setting things up with me and forging.

It totally sucks, you set up the basic camp, all tools, extra rope even a medium sized berry farm, but your kids, just run about wasting food, even tho you tell them a million times to do something, they either take most of their life to do it or die in the process.
My pet hate is when you have two or more kids. I Have plenty of wild food about to get a farm going before the food runs out, but you seem to be the only one planting berries, and you randomly see you kids run around with baskets not doing much, just wasting food even tho I tell them to help, they don't listen.
(This happens more then I would like). Starting to only keep players who "Q". nearly all kids say they are good at the game but die or waste food.

Yeah i dunnnut understand these people
, on 2 generations, 11 kids die at the age they can take care of themselves. Even if I breastmilk them until late age they still die...

That there tells me you are an expert player. Expert players know the value of leaving a little food in reserve. They don't ever let anything get to zero before they react.

I have been there. You know you are prolonging the inevitable, but you want to succeed soooo bad. So you breastfeed the 8 year old who you know has not touched food since you weened him at 5. (I am guessing at the last age you can breastfeed) You are hoping that if you give him 3 or 4 more minutes he will figure it out. He doesn't.

Tbh "Q" doesn't mean pro, just means they are on the forum.
Maybe we should use something as a "I AM A PRO PLAYER" letter?

I doubt that Jason would ever code this, bit how nice would it be if you carried a signal that you were "good". Maybe like if one of you last three lives ended as elder you are born a red haired baby.
Not only would it help us know who was good, but I bet it would REALLY cut down on sucides. It could be carrot to reward players who mastered game and for sticking it out.

What if you died before you could grab you just Eve or just Eve until you raise a baby who can grab?
Some basic tutorial about temperature would not be a bad idea either.

Making to elder would be easy to code. And making it the one of the last three would lives would take in account that you had a shit start or dumb luck.
