Biggest OHOL fantasy

I was pretty excited by the trailer at the prospect of civilizations developing all the way to modern times. I'm really hoping that once you have a decent tribe built and are pretty self-reliant, that we could see tribes interacting with one another at some point. I think it would be really interesting if we could make flags and slowly unite into countries. I like to imagine that shops will pop up eventually, when places start turning into towns. Currency could become a trade commodity and lead to the birth of nobility classes. It would be really interesting to be able to get together as a town and elect someone king or chief, see them raise armies, send messenger parties to other civilizations, and etc. What sort of crazy big ideas do you guys have for the game as it develops?

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

Not another idea, but I just witnessed a trade between two West villages. 1 cart of carrots for 1 cart of rabbits. So we allready have trades, even tho its kinda rare.

Sadly I died to a Disconnect soon after... ( Problem was not on my end)

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

Trade used to be extremely common before all of the nerfs. It was awesome! Villages were built next to each other. Now, they’d probably end up killing each other.

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

I think a lot of those things are cool and I want them too. I also think that certain parts of the way the game works
at this point make it hard for people to really belong to the town->city->country.

We are born to random places and are only there for an hour, then are excluded for a while.
If we play for a few hours we will be born to all sides in a conflict, with the intel that comes from being effectively a defector.

The environment of the game is homogeneous on the scale of current cities and thus there isn't really anything
meaningful to make cities different from each other. This makes it so there isn't any economic reason to trade.
Cities are large enough to encompass multiple biomes, and most biomes are functionally identical to each other.

Yeah, they have different temperatures. Other than the border every single biome is hot or cold. Deserts are better
if you are naked and worse if you are clothed. Everything grows everywhere, and the biomes are so small that it is
simple to run a horse cart to the next one over to get the wood/bucket of water/iron you needed.

That it is almost impossible to keep track of your items when they are not on your person does not help either.

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

Yeah, I also wish we had more towns interacting with eachother.  But Different towns are usually lifetimes apart from eachother. You can have bloodlines split into two camps but even then interactions are usually rare.

I'm interested as to what the game will be like with advanced tech. Cars would allow us to go way further and carry multiple people, Maybe we'd even get temperature control for them. Plus cars don't run away from there owners.

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

Oh yeah, maps, and big roads that connected many different settlements. We had that. Once.

Natural reclamation and decay is a *****.

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

There used to be roads EVERYWHERE, you just run in any direction and you would hit one. Then you could
follow it either way and you would find a town. A few screen away would be another one.

Then Apocalypse smile

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

I still think that some stuff is missing for trade. We don't have time to negotiate, we can't prevent people from stealing from a cart.

Yeah, wars could be fun too but I doubt the "one hour and you will not be reborn in the same place" mechanics really allows for bloodlines and countries to emerge.

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

That was the age when we had 500 gamers playing at the same time, even monday. Then Jason changes the civilisations game to a survivial one and now, saturday, we have like 30-50 players, the same that play all the time.

Game was super interesting before. Then after the changes, everybody left and the game stil became harder and harder. We lost so many things that you will never be able to do by now and thag was the best gameplay we had.

Now we farm farming and nothing much. Jason wanted to show us how it was in his garden.

We miss all these things

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

It's funny you mentioned shops as a thing. I was think of a way to open a shop when I get the game, but I will post my idea here let the community try and make it a thing.

It would have to happen with everyone working in a functioning town(good food supplies, shop layout was started and ready for walls door and a lock).

When the building is done, pick a young female who is knowledge able in cooking trade through a crate in between 2 walls so no one can pass.

The female Baker will have the only baking oven, and it would be nice if players made sure there was only one place to bake.

The reason for this is because the skilled Baker could sell pies/stew for the items to make food, or for other items they are low on. They would be inventory managers, but can also control what the village grows and focuses food wise, because they cannot make food any other way other than berries.

The. Their children can take up the trade or the baker opens the door for them to leave.

It would be nice, because you. Ould trade for bowls, plates, wood, w/e.

It would encourat players to make plates, or bring them back and exchange them plus some(like a few rabbits, furs, beans, cabbage etc..) for more food.

This could take the place of the village cheif so to speak.

What's your opinions?

Re: Biggest OHOL fantasy

I still think there's no good reason family lines should be dying out regularly. But so few people live to adulthood, and so few start new colonies. with like 33% of children surviving to maturity and some people spreading out there would actually be a stable population.

I'll tell you what I tell all my children: Make basket, always carry food.

Listen to your mom!
