With most of the post-launch growing pains behind us, I was freed up this week to spend all most all of my time on content. There's a lot of new stuff in there, mostly concerning expanded gardening and things you can make with the products of that gardening.
A few of the end-products are personally meaningful to me---things that my family has been making every year for many years, with all most all of the real-life steps in place. In fact, I just ate some of our red-cabbage sauerkraut during my lunch break today.
Oh, and if you've ever tried to cut up a hubbard squash, you know that a kitchen knife isn't going to do the job. The first time I saw one of these monsters in person, many years ago, I felt like I was looking at something straight out of Star Wars. One of the strangest looking edible fruits around.
If you're paying close attention, you will also notice that the days of berry farm utopia are coming to an end, with berries now requiring soil, just like every other crop. However, soil has become both more plentiful and easier to move around. I'm still trying to design new foods in the game so that everything has its niche, but that approach will only take us so far. I envision 100s of unique foods in this game eventually, and I'm currently tinkering with new mechanics that will motivate a varied diet in a simple, straight-forward way (no, it's not a tedious nutrition system, don't worry).

From what I gather from his other post, you use a basket on a fertile soil pit, it picks up three individual piles of soil which you can then place down in one pile of three, which must then be spread out by a bowl into separate piles of soil. Not that that should be a problem because clay bowls are the easiest form of water transport to create, milkweed wise, with only 8 milkweed turned to 4 thread converted to 2 ropes, along with the 3 clay and reeds or straw to make the kiln and more clay for the bowls. Otherwise you need 14 milkweed for the snare and pouch.

Just like I told Twitch chat last night. I will refer to my children and myself as 'soon to be murdered'. We build civs and you supply the means for their destruction. Good job. So before I or my children are stabbed to death we can enjoy beans together. Great. Do something before all you have left are your precious griefers because your true fans were murdered one too many times. You do nothing to stop griefing but everything to guarantee us future murder victims are busy before it happens. I hope you are enjoying it 'cause more and more of us former and future murder victims are trying to live while you suck down red cabbage and kraut. Could you be any more detached from our complaints that border on cries for HELP?

Loving this update, stew meta is fun. Could we have a change of graphics for half a bowl of stew please? Seen lots of people starve standing next to those, thinking they're empty bowls. Also, we should be able to carve and dry gourds for water containers.

This update looks amazing! I am especially excited by the idea of more fermented food (alcohol is only a baby step away). Has anyone found any decent user guides to the new update while we wait for the official wiki to catch up? I hope Jason takes the week off and updates all the new recipes!
