No. I think it is just right. With stew being the new meta, we finally have time again to roleplay and chat.
Mostly playing as Eve West - hope to meet you one day!

No dude. I've finally been able to think about doing things like how to learn how to dye. (Still haven't found time for it). But now I *think* about it.
And it's only that way when you're in a established town. It's still freaking hard as second or third generation to survive.

yes and no
people are terrible at exploring and planning ahead
so they might not see a pond or a soil pit 50 tiles away
they just want to make 10 cabbage rows for the sake of it
they just want to make stew for the sake of it
most camps i see, lack of bowls, plates and pouches, stew needs quite a few bowls, people try to do in a starting colony
then some of us just hoards clay and makes more and more bowls while we could do steel tools
people should make some popcorn for babies and elders, but they cant cause no bowls
might impove later
also the seeds are hard to see, and cover a lot of tiles, kinda need more storage

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

Seeds are really a mess and in all towns I gathered tons of clay and made tons of bowls. Still not enough lol
Its a rought world - keep dying untill you live <3

I'd lean closer to yes than I would no. However, I think it's better to have too much food going around than things just being full struggle mode. In times like these you can take the time to teach newer players the basics without having to worry about them killing everyone in the village. When food is harder to come by the game just ends up being a crappy experience of of spawning into "No food baby." until you get lucky or an eve decides to keep a child.
If anything is producing too much food it's probably still berries. Either the length of time for picked to languishing needs to go up, empty to full time needs to go up, or soil produced by compost needs to go down.
fug it’s Tarr.

It is fine. When people are competent there is enough food, when they are not they starve.

It's good now. Stew isn't portable, so it allows people to actually work in town. I still need a bag of pies to travel and get iron or milkweed or hunt. In a functional town people can finally specialize. It gives people a chance to finally teach their kids/new players, which is nice. Most towns never make it that far, so no worries. Plenty of starvation still happening!

Perhaps we need new challenges to compensate

Like YAHG said, a village with skilled farmers and cooks will live a good life, while with missmanagement a village will starve. That's the way it should be.
The seed situation on the other hand...
Not to go off topic too much, but the nearly invisible seeds are horrible clutter all over villages, not just near farms. Mostly you can't even tell you have them in your hand, untill you try to pick something up, and can't.
I was thinking maybe have the seeds disappear, or even better: have them dissapear after an epoch, with a chance of growing the wild variant of the plant on the spot. Would kill off seeds that sit idle too long, while also not being entirelly useless.

Seed containers would be nice, like Izzytok said.
It doesn't matter a huge ton even if there was too much food, we will just start to kill each
other more often. Even when there is plenty of food it will just end in blood or a server reset.
Which ever comes first.

Or even just seed piles or granary-type buildings. There's usually not much need to carry seeds around en masse. Just being able to keep them somewhere would be great.

Or after a map reset?

+1
I would love the game to go in that direction. Some problems (like water, soil, food) should become mostly "solved" in bigger towns. But in exchange you should get bigger, better problems. The following is just illustration of what I mean. It can be anything that is complete non-issue when you have small camp, but becomes very important once you have thriving town:
Imagine you have water, soil, food problems solved in town, in a way that it's not much work to support it. But that tech requires resources that you just run out of locally. And they happen to spawn just in the middle between big towns. Enough to support one town, but not both long term. There is clear incentive to go raid the other town. You need a dedicated army, horses, carts, etc. And it's multi generational effort to pull off. And griefers have very important role there to play. And you would bless Pein for building graveyard wall around the town, so that enemy cannot attack you just from any angle they want.
Would you like to be part of that story? I would.
I think that some karma system is needed to pull it off. Or anything else that will make it so: killing you own folks bad, killing other town's folks good. Otherwise people will just spawn in the other town and kill everybody there. No real challenge.

Amen to some other challenge other than just pure food survival.

Seeds and food containers are needed, most kids I have get lost into the mess of items and die of starvation. It is hard to show them the place or take care of them because there is always a lot of work to do. Seems unterminable, unfinishable ? I would love to have times to do others things than that, such as roads for new villages.

I feel like we’re doing wonderfully. The new update poses a challenge — every large town I’ve spawned into is in a struggle for soil and I’ve been assigned “compost job” in almost all villages.
We’re just right imo.
Offline
The old berries were alot worse in that regard.

I'm actually really loving the food update currently. It's not the easiest to survive early on, and later in big towns you still do need to have multiple people working on food + soil. But you can have a generation making stew which sets the next generation up to advance. Gives everyone more time to be able to learn and talk too. I think Jason found a good balance atm.

Yes!
How do we make that copy of Scott McCLoud's Understanding Comics as seen in your trailer video?
That guitar would be pretty awesome too, especially if we can freeform play it!

I wish there were more animals we could hunt and eat, maybe like deer?

I'm excited once more animals are added too, ones you can also domesticate. Think of beef or pork being able to be used. Also gives your town another reason to build pens and really expand outward, as that takes a lot of room too.

Just give more domesticated animals which require food to prevent their starvation. Dogs, cows, geese. You wil see how people abandon their kids to keep cows during famine
Suggestions: more basic tools, hugs, more violence, day/night, life tokens, yum 2.0
