SAPLINGS!

we need some system where we can replant trees, it would prevent the worst type of griefing/stupidity where someone chops down every tree in the region causing the essential branches and resources to turn up dry.

it could be as simple as picking a seed from a tree, or when you chop down a tree you also can harvest seeds from it.

thoughts?

Re: SAPLINGS!

If it took like 2 hours to grow a tree from a sapling it would be pretty balanced.

Re: SAPLINGS!

i would grow a pen big_smile

should be some limitations, like 8 free tiles around or random tree in 9 tiles and growth of one hour
road makers are lazy, so many desert, tundra swamp and they cut green and even savanna

Re: SAPLINGS!

Growing a pen would be cool!

Could people lose track of it though?

Or was your plan to use tree stumps somehow?

You're the expert, I'm just curious.

Re: SAPLINGS!

you can use natural trees but they cover so maybe top side left and right
stumps block just like fences, and are digged out just like fences so kinda same, actually now goose pen needs at least one tree inside wall, just for that

im not familiar yet with goose, might change things

and we can already grow rose which can be made into a pen, just make the soil in pen form and plant the seeds, water it

Re: SAPLINGS!

Rose pens are awesome!

I wish we had shrubs.  Or smaller trees, kind of like magnolia.  Just for the heck of it.

I like the idea of dwarf trees or shrubs being an immovable sheep pen; a live fence.  I suppose the rose bushes are the closest to this so far.  Also you can make them different colors, right?

Re: SAPLINGS!

We do need a way to regrow trees. Even if it takes 2-3 generations.

Re: SAPLINGS!

I wish we could break down dead trees by hand or with a sharp stone in the desert areas.  Like a limited use dispenser of branches.

I believe that would help out the kindling/wheat threshing problem.

i like the ability to extend it, for time and resource reasons 3x3 inner size is perfectly fine, but lets say you build a pen 2x7 inside, height of 7, width of 2, but you make the right side out of graves (they always throw lambs into pit so it will be useless)
or sheep bones
or all graves, and the door one longer with home markers
plant around roses, when they grow move outward the graves
so you dont fix right side only on top bottom, and make boxes with lid on left, this way your pen grows sideways slowly, even for ten sheep you need 40 plates so that can be an issue

the graves if fixed, could hold a lot of meat on them
or a few boxes

now the gooses also need a pen i think, at least i saw one without a corner blocking fence and not sure if they got the same movement as sheep, never actually seen them go out but saw a few outside
with the ability to extend it, you can have them different colors just make sure the seed can be found near the closest cold bowl

Right, but every single rose seed has to be put in a bowl in a snow pile and left for 30 seconds before it can be planted. And if you want another color, it has to be an untouched wild seed left alone for an hour (red) or two hours (white). Not the most practical and definitely not the fastest way if you want to make a pen. It would be beautiful, but roses are a luxury you won't be able to afford if you haven't secured a good food source yet.

my two cents

Saplings as we know now should be replaced with a twig-like tree which can still provide skewers.

Using a (still unidentified) tool on a tree results in a seed of that tree.
You can plant this seed in soil.
That seed will grow into a sapling in a few generations.
The new sapling can also be harvested for skewers.
Saplings should grow into their respective tree in a few generations.

Problems that might occur:
Grievers planting tree seeds on your beautiful cornrows. (to get inside your head wink )
