Home direction bug

Sometimes I don't see the home marker (direction arrow), don't know why, sometimes even far away (do I have to touch it or what?). One day I was running errands away from the town and I saw the direction arrow. My bearing said it was wrong, but I followed anyway. I ended up running and foraging pretty much all my life (just out of curiosity) with two backpacks that I wanted to give to anybody. Questions:

1. How does home marker work, why it doesn't show up every time?
2. Did anybody else experience the same bug I had - wrong direction arrow?
3. I know the map is big, but how big is it? I mean, what's the point of having a map so large, that even wasting all my life I wasn't able to track any human activity (not even speaking of alive towns)

Thank you!

Re: Home direction bug

If your mother makes a home marker before you’re born, you will be born with the same home marker. If she doesn’t, you don’t have one either and you’ll have to make it yourself. Sometimes when you have no home marker, a person in a town rings the bell tower and it sets a home marker for you. I’d recommend not following the bell because odds are you’ll never reach it in your lifetime. There’s no end to the map btw. I think it’s infinite.

I usually play as Eve Storm. If you’re named Phoenix, Bear, Winter, or Summer, it’s probably me smile

Wrong. If a home marker is on your screen when you are born you will follow that marker. (I think)

You inherit any home marker that is on the screen when you are born.  If there is none, you must set one yourself.

That's probably distant town's bell.  You hear it at ~30s into the game.

I theory infinite.  In practice distance between villages/tows I've seen in replays is about 14000-40000 tiles. You run at about 3 tiles/s, so 14000 is more than hour of pure running (no stop for eating, etc.).

Because Jason hates us.  No, he wanted to prevent Eves from settling in town's ruins. But as a side effect he killed any possibility of interaction between towns.

Re: Home direction bug

the map is like 8kx8k
when your marker is cut you lose the arrow
marker blocks the tile from placing down item, still people chuck it down everywhere, i used to  cut the ones which are in the way, put it behind a tree

Re: Home direction bug

Wonderful answers guys! One question about the bell, if its purpose is to set markers of all people nearby (?) to direct them to that town, how does it work knowing that the distances between the towns is so vats, nobody is gonna come from a different village? That's what happened in my situation - heard the bell, got the arrow, kept running for good 45-50minutes - nothing? Can anybody then explain me, how do bells work and what is their function?

You guys rock!!!!

Can't be that small.  I've seen in replay information about players from different lineage 37000 tiles away.

You lose arrow if you cut your own marker, but not when somebody else does it.  Actually if your kid is born away from the marker, it's good idea for him/her to cut your marker and replant it as his own.  I'm not sure what happens when bell rings later on, though.  Somebody said that your arrow changes to point to the bell.  If so, that's a bug IMO, but I haven't seen it in practice.

Re: Home direction bug

if you dont have marker and bell rings, thats your default marker and if cut your own marker reverts back to bell marker

not sure if others cut it, but obviously as a woman best is to have your own standing
the one i seen is 4000x4000 https://bream.chardsville.uk/OneLifeMap/#z=0

And the map has plenty of room for this.  It's larger than 30,000 times the surface area of planet Earth and would take more than 34 continuous, real-world years to walk from one edge to the other.

Not that small.  Distance between last two towers is nearly 10k tiles.  20k and 30k from them to third last.
