So, this happened an hour or so ago... Yes in fact, one lifetime ago, so it was indeed an hour.
I was in a relatively well constructed civilisation. All was going well, people seemed to be thriving. Work was being done without any hitch. I had to say goodnight to my girlfriend, so I figured if I stand still and rush, I can get back before I starve... Did so no problem... However... In the time I was gone, all went quiet.
I returned to find that bustling activity that I had grown to know in this town, was all but a whisper now. As I explored, i found a bloody corpse.
Two men stood not far from it. I asked them "What happened?"
The told me to retrieve the knife that had caused this horrible scene, and informed me it was in the hospital. That's right, this place even had a medics building set up... With a sign and everything. I figure, no problem. better I have the knife than anybody else. Well that would have been ideal... had it not been a trap.
The second I entered the building, they shut the door behind me. it was then i noticed there is no knife, and that there was the corpse of my cousin, laying right next to me. Naturally, I attempt to leave, but find they have locked me inside.
I didn't even know locked doors were a thing until this happened. Obviously I starved...
This seems to me like an all to easy way to grief. Maybe it's my own fault, but even so, I was then doomed thanks to the actions of these two monsters.
Be careful when entering buildings guys, it may end up your tomb.

The more common way people grief with locked doors is to lock everything the town needs in the room and then hide the key. Locking people in rooms is probably only working right now because of the new players who don't know about locks.
It sucks, but it's not as common as you'd think.

well i know a way you can lock someone without lock
all it needs is a door, and a triangle pit entrance, reverse, you can open it one direction only as you cant open diagonally, but as long as its open you can enter
it was a nifty way to lock a pen from inside, and i starved cause i sheared a sheep in the corner and were too many lambs

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

This happened to me before! Be careful. Make sure the door isn’t locked when you enter so you have a bit of time.

can you give a little more detail? or maybe an image? i was in a town the other day that had doors placed sideways. i couldn't figure out how to open them.

just like the front entrance of a pen, not a corner one, so you got
o-empty
x-wall
d-door
OXO
XDX
XOX
then under it a normal square building/pen
now this door in middle can be closed from inside and cant be opened from outside, cause you cant click it diagonally
reverse it, can put a baby inside and close door on it or enclose someone inside, but normal use is one directional door, so you control where people come in, you can have both designs in a same room so they come in from up and go out down- with small rooms it doesnt matter, with big room it may be good, cause they wont go in from other side, especially babies who dont know anything just pick your stuff up and place somewhere
in that situation you could go around to pen, exit to city center, go back and close it from inside again
OXOXO
XXDXX
OOXOO
sideway doors are just harder to see and you cant see if its locked, maybe you can hide a door behind a swamp tree
not much uses for it, maybe if you want to assemble a pack or a knife, without people taking it from you, painting your clothes, hiding from animals, killers, a little privacy, or you can place locked door other side so this can be an airlock if people follow you, cause if you got a room enclosed, people will go in right away if you open it, then asking them to go out wont work
or maybe preventing suicide babies or roleplaying hotels
