End Game Strats, Food Meta.

I have come to the conclusion, that these forums are alot more intriguing then actual game play.
I like reading everybody's ideas and the way that they want to play the game before understanding the mechanics in game.

Im creating this forum to discuss your process and end strategys to actually create a functioning village before the one hour time frame is up and you die.

I think, in my own opinon. That the game is entirely too complex and doesn't do enough to help the player and its as if the developer intentionally creates this added difficulty through lack of sustainable resources, griefers.

Thank you for your time, and don't forget to leave your strategy down low for creating a functioning society without bottle necking yourself on resources.

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

I think the best output for your inputs is:

Compost
Use grown sheep from this for mutton
Mutton with compost wheat to mutton pies
Spare soil goes into berries

I can't think of a chain that uses less iron than this which is the most limiting resource currently.

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

I have yet to see a town run out of iron withen walking distance. Only towns full of lazybones not willing to look for iron.

I mean it can be a 30 minute job in an older settlement, but ive always been able to get a cart of iron and snake/boar/bear/wolf willing i can bring it home.

I'm personally a big fan of making bean burritos if im cooking in a big town just to burn up the massive amounts of wheat. I like making pies too if we have meat, but often we dont because shepard is feeding grown sheep for the fleece instead of baby sheep (i have found people do this because they are too lazy to clean the meat out of the pen)

end game camps can be frustrating because noone wants to do things properly they are making crowns, trying to get an apron, gorging themselfs on berrys, or griefing people. Lately ive had the most fun in gen 2-3 eve camps. They are generally too small for griefers to bother with, and you get to do a bit of everything with a small group of family.

I recently had a really fun life in the dust family line, and even had one of my eve camps make it to gen 20 :) i was so proud checking it this morning i think its dead now but i love checking the family tree and seeing that my kids had kids, that had kids, that had kids........

You are right bout not running out of iron atm. Still though that would be the endgame situation if we ever got that far.

Truth there solid truth. I dont find much fun in playing without a purpose, and grief is too pervasive so i have been suiciding in large towns lately.

Stew is great, really great, but only as great as how much clay can be used for crocks, and crocks take travel, and the further you need to travel the better it is to have a pie smile

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

Honestly both pies and stew are pretty great, better to have a mix of both not only for potential Yum bonuses but also because of the whole pies you can move but stew is stationary thing. Best to use the extra wheat dust for something too otherwise it gets so out of control it takes up potential planting space because people don't move it far to hit it.

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

well a 50 gen family uses up 3 iron veins, seen it in action, each phase
griefers kill families and dumb girls who make too many kids or not enough
im not a farm guy and i hate this wannabe stew makers who cant get themselves branches and bowls
sheep is highest tech and jason thinks compost making is very basic thing, and to sustain any kind of farming, you need it
i make berry farms at start to sustain a starting family, then some excess carrots and corn
sometimes i make pie stations and make sure they got enough plates and easy to process path from sheep

also pies are great for exploring, 2-3 pies enough to go 4 biome away, 4 enough to discover surrounding 8 or even 24 biomes
and there are quite a few pie mixes so each gives yum bonus

most people cant even make compost or sustain a berry farm
or keep carrot for the compost
make wool clothes, rarely seen more than 4 aprons and usually half of it is made by me

tilling two soil and keeping last carrot is rare
they till 3 or 1 twice, both bad
compost only costs some work and water, generally not hard to manage to get water

wasting soil on pies before sheep, or making huge farms for stew
extending berry when no one fixes it

there is a lot of preaching about teaching but a lot of kids gonna be a waste on resources, so instead of fighting it, developed areas need to be further away, let them eat corn, berry, even carrot is too unsustainable for new players

pork meat is really bad now, with all the limestone, numbers dont add up

but wheat tortilla bean burito sounds good, never thought of that, basket making and compost has the side product already

popcornis underused, i think most food is lost on overeating, generally coordination is also bad for the yum bonus

but as long as sheep gives good looking clothes and pies, its still the best line so far

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

The main thing I notice in older towns is lack of baskets. So I think burritos are a great food because you can spam wheat for baskets and clean up the grains with less effort and space use than sinking it into pies.

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

Listen people,

Famines wil lhappen no matter what. The only way to avoid it is to either:

Have a very VERY reliable line of authoritarian rulers who understand the game very well and know just how much population your food production can support

or

make a saferoom, lock that shit up, stock it with food when times are good, have a keeper hide with the fertile women in there when famine hits, let the world outside die, make a smaller more sustainable population that will go out and continue work. This way, food shortages that WILL INEVITABLY HAPPEN will not end a civ, it'll just end a lot of lives. I've seen it be very successful - but dangerous if there aren't at least 3 keys in circulation.

Bonus: lock up yo weapons in there and griefer proof your life.

Maybe even make a prison in there too... ;D

What is an ominous blade blank?

It's that blade blank next to the file and short staff you see in a naked toddler's basket.

Well, that's how famines are avoided in real life.

From the Bangladesh Ministry of Food:

Government grain storage capacity stands at 1.62 million tons, largely in the form of traditional warehouses where the average shelf-life of grain is typically less than 12 months. Annual loss in quality is reportedly very high due to lack of proper moisture and temperature control in these facilities and shortcomings in overall grain management. The Ministry of Food (MoF) intends to increase the overall storage capacity to 2.2 million tons by 2015 and 3 million tons by 2021. In this regard, construction is underway for 261 warehouses in different parts of the country with a total storage capacity of 219,000 tons, and a concrete grain silo of 50,000 tons capacity (for wheat) at Mongla Port. In addition, MoF plans to construct eight steel silos (six for rice and two for wheat) with a combined capacity of 535,500 tons under the Modern Food Silo Project. Large-capacity, privately-owned storage is still limited.

I'm usually disappointed whenever I'm born into a large town, but I'm surprised that no one has endorsed the idea of striking out and starting a new town. This has the dual benefit of being a) fun as hell, because it gives you new purpose, and b) an additional safeguard for your family's line. You're forking the code, diversity is survival, etc. If you're born into a big town, get a couple of folks together, including at least one a middle-aged woman and a young girl, pack some food and firemaking tools, and go east! There was a family that lived to 50 generations by doing just this.

Re: End Game Strats, Food Meta.

once i pulled a double swaperino and extended the lineage by 10 gen
first i was scouting and found tons of cacti, desert, ponds, so i made new camp
then i born back and seen too may people and went back to old one which was died out
restarted and enjoyed small family lot of stuff, the two were like 150 tile away but in a straight line

btw running diagonally better cause map is generated diagonally and the same features repeat diagonally

Interesting... I wonder if we have the diagonal movement increase that so many old grid based games have?

i guess its just looks better, than having all square, romboid biomes look more natural

but if you see a monolith, next one is diagonal to it, and high chance of having good map generation, mb cause bugs out some biomes
generally any mix biome is a map generation error, like ponds in desert or wast green/desert mixes
which is dangerous cause animals can go anywhere but good for temp and resources
